This game is fun and brings me back to the old days of Combat on Atari. But there are problems of course. For some reason, the game can't decide whether it wants a mouse or controller, even though I have my controller connected. Another problem, pausing the game sends the pause menu off screen to the top left corner where I can barely see "Exit". The game also needs some proper calibration as the turret controls are a little stiff when using a controller. One last thing, there's A LOT of slow down for a game that doesn't require much in power. My PC far exceeds the requirements. I hope these are fixed soon.
For someone who tried developing games using Construct2, I would like to say this game is absolutely amazing! Great controls, great graphics and effects, and fun for solo or local play, either way. It would be great if you could save the upgrades, but then again, it would not make any sense since you could easily get coins for upgrading your tanks. Hoping this game gets more updates in the future, like missions, challenges, more levels, etc..
One of my favourite couch'em-up games on Steam. As someone who, as a boy, loved Combat on the Atari 2600, I had been looking for something similar on Steam for quite a while. Tried all the various guises, like Tankr, Tank Brawl, Tank Blast but this one, Ballistic Tanks, is the KING. A game now firmly established on my Favourites playlist, which in itself is quite a feat! Amazing fun with friends (apart from the Planes mode). Buy it!
I'll be honest, this style of game was one of those which I really enjoyed back in my childhood, but that's not to say this game doesn't do it well. It offers four tanks (the normal), as well as four surprise unlockables. While it doesn't offer too much in terms of the campaign, the versus mode is actually pretty good. There's the good ol' deathmatch which lasts until you get blown up three times, there's the juggernaut mode where you have to attempt to destroy the big freaking tank, and there's a special powerup mode for really frantic gameplay. For the kind of game that it is, the power-ups, the weapons, the graphics, and the background music are each absolutely godlike. The main menu music with its techno, the versus mode with its jazz-esque techno. Let's be fair, of course it'll be techno, it's advertised in the trailer. For £3.99 (well, -20% for me for launch discount!), this game is actually really fun. Sadly I don't have anyone to play it with though... Let's just cover a bit on what to expect when you open the game: *Open the game. *Play the campaign. *Understand literally everything you do. *Die 3 times. *Game over. *Play Vs. Mode. *Realise that the bots are too easy and up their difficulty. *Get absolutely curbstomped by the opponent CPUs. *Play Juggernaut. *10/10 would explode again. Oh, and for those of you collectors, there are STEAM TRADING CARDS!
Full Disclosure: I did receive the game for free for testing purposes. However, the details of that exchange are important. I found Ballistic Tanks during its development and thought it looked so incredible that I wanted to be involved. As a fellow game developer I saw what promise the game had and knew I would be passing by a real gem if I did not. Kirk did not approach me for a review or ask me to do this. Things I like: -The game is gorgeous. Kirk really has a way with movement and everything in the game moves and reacts so incredibly well. It's a lot of fun to look at while playing. -The mechanics are a lot of fun. It's been a while since a good arena tank game has been available. Tank games really never get old, and Kirk has made sure there are plenty of new mechanics to freshen up this long-standing genre. I really recommend playing with bullet time, as the coolness factor goes way up. Also, playing as a Boss tank is SO AMAZING. -Playing with people is great. It's a really good party game, and the game comes alive with others in the room. -Kirk didn't forget solo players, and put a really challenging 1-2 player Arcade mode in. I would love to play this on an old arcade cabinet as it's got the look and feel down. Things I don't like: -This game screams for online multiplayer. I would probably never turn it off if there was an option to play online with other people. The bots are well made but there's nothing like humans. -Some of the cannon sounds are a little small. They could really be improved with some bass, especially the boss shots. Really easy to address, though. -Sometimes there are minor collision errors. Does not affect gameplay very much, but it does affect the game feeling. Overall, for the price this is an incredible gem. If you have a party planned or are a fan of the Tank Arena genre, you will really enjoy this. It's been a real pleasure watching it go from beautiful gifs to a finished product.
It's combat for the 2600k. Good solid action for one to four players huddling around your medium sized monitor screen to better recreate those retro times of you playing on a 13 inch tv grappling your atari controllers.
Purchased for my son and I to play. Looks cool with lots of promise, but it doesn't work with my X-Box controller - and I verified that the controller is working fine with other Steam games by doing an A/B comparison, so that's disappointing. Additionally, Steam overlay doesn't work/engage with <SHIFT><TAB>, so my son and I can't get together in the same game - thus defeating the purpose for my purchase. If the developers can fix these critical issues, I'd love the chance to come back and alter my rating ... because again, this really does like an easy way for the two of us to spend a little time together in-game. Very cool looking, fast moving, and perfect for quick co-op. Thanks!
When you play local multiplayer game may be stoped, if player 1 gets destroyed. The message "game over" will appear, as if you were playing "arcade" and you ran out of lives. Multiplayer is broken
Check this game community hub before purchasing, game has had bugs since 2017 and still not fixed, game is either unplayable only showing a white screen, or the controllers don't work.
Game won't run properly with XBox controllers or shut down properly.
