"BallBoi" is a badly made Unreal tech demo, basically a kitbash made from a basic Unreal rolling ball physics/platformer game template, slapped together badly, with just a few levels, and then rushed onto Steam Direct for $100, for no apparent reason. What do you do in the game? Badly done, seriously unpolished minimum viable product rolling ball platforming. This comes across as something unambitious and "simple" in terms of implementation and technical quality and depth, more like a game dev tutorial or an experiment. It’s a classic case of a developer prioritizing the low effort needed to get a game listed on Steam over the actual delivery of a technically sound or compelling product. Whatever is needed to hammer out something "good" enough for Steam Direct self-publishing. I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips. This game is fairly dated at 6 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent players, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher-quality alternatives on Steam.

The physics is awful. The ball is heavy and inert, but it is launched high into the air on collisions with minor obstacles. It doesn't make any sense. It's worth to play only for the soundtrack. It's still a free game, so you lose nothing by checking it.
I like the concept and idea of the game but its poorly executed. Controls are difficult to use and the game is frustratingly buggy at times. I've had several times that I roll on something only for it to propel me in the air. I'm not a massive fan and its free for a reason but I recommend it just in case someone is able to master the controls or find it fun.
Enjoyable little game once you understand the basics of it (tip: you can use your jump mid-air if you were launched by a ramp instead of jumping). The only problem is that the ball will sometimes randomly bounce. Either a physics bug, or some small invisible obstacles in the level. For the low price of "free" I'd say give it a try if you enjoy physics based speedrunning games.
