A very stressful experience
Did I enjoy this visual novel? No. Would I recommend it? Yes, absolutely. The themes present in this visual novel are intense, and they are also specific enough to resonate with my personal fears and anxieties surrounding the close policing of behavior and even thoughts, and the devastating consequences that this can have. The members' rhetoric, their hypocrisy, and their brutality were nauseatingly realistic and left me feeling unsettled all the way through Acts 1 and 2. Thus, Act 3 for me was a visceral sort of fantasy wish fulfillment, haha. Though I've seen some other reviews mention that they felt Act 3 was fumbled, I thought that it really hit the nail on the head.
The violent revenge fading into regret, and then the loss of Magda's newly reclaimed autonomy to a fellow victim who should have been her ally but instead used their power to take advantage of Magda, was a satisfying natural conclusion to Magda's and Nils' repression, isolation, and torment. I also enjoyed the open-endedness of what the future might hold in store for the survivors of the VN's ending.
tl;dr on my review of the story - I can acknowledge the quality of Acts 1 and 2 from a technical standpoint, but they were Too Real for me to enjoy. Act 3 was where my excitement was really piqued. The minimal, often chilling soundtrack I think served to accentuate the story extremely well, as did the filtered photo backgrounds and the various fonts. The sprite art is very pretty and clean, in an ironic contrast to the subject matter that works very well. Additionally, while I personally did not make use of any of the accessibility features, I appreciate their inclusion - not nearly enough VNs take steps to make their excellent stories available to disabled players. As a small aside, this VN reminded me in a lot of ways of soundless by milk+ visual, one of the earlier VNs that I played and one that I named as my favorite for a long time. If you enjoyed Bad Faith, you might like soundless as well (and vice versa, if you're looking at reviews trying to decide whether to play Bad Faith). soundless is also free, so you've got nothing to lose but some time if you check it out.

+++ 「Humans say that revenge is a dish best served cold. / But for me, that's too long a wait. I always like mine straight from the source, warm and raw.(人間たちは言うよね。

I mean I played the demo with the thoughts of redemption, religion/cult being overthrown and standing up for yourself could possible happen and then I see
Magda blast up stairs as a new being craving flesh. Magical girl villain arc time

Oh seeing the good/bad sides of human beings capacity for horrible acts twists the mind
but exciting read to the end. I just wish more lore got weaved into this, it's implied but I wanna know more.
Short, linear visual novel with beautiful art and writing. The sort of community it presents is extremely familiar to me and I think they captured the atmosphere well. Also great accessibility options. Worth checking out if it seems interesting to you
oh this was SO fun. i'm a sucker for revenge plots and weird gore but even with all that aside, very interesting (and often uncomfortable (in a good way!)) premise. VNs don't usually click for me (my attention span leaves a lot to be desired) but i found myself disappointed when i had to take a short break from this one while playing; i was very excited to see where it led and i didn't want to stop reading! i have thoughts on specific parts of it but i don't want to put spoilers in a review. so all in all, very enjoyable, will likely be mentally unpacking this one for a while! also, it's not often that a piece of media leaves me feeling conflicted about who was right/what was the right thing to do in a certain situation, but this one certainly left me feeling that way! which was pretty neat!
I broadly recommend the game based on my own experience, but it's not something for everyone nor is it perfect. For those it resonates with, though, it will resonate hard. If you're specifically looking for a tragedy with themes of repression, this might be for you. This game is best experienced by thinking about what every character could be thinking as you play, and accepting that the protagonist is a different person from yourself. This may seem immersion-breaking at first glance, but it's a richer experience to think outside of the POV character's headspace; with this story especially. The "point" of the story is not easily something put into words, but I came away from the story feeling satisfied. However, the antagonist characters aren't really delved into enough to make this as emotionally impactful as it could be, only somewhat hinting at further emotional complexity outside of their interactions with our heroine. A good tragedy is always jucier when the antagonists are just as well-realised as the protagonist; poor Amaris especially could've used some more screen-time to help us figure out how things wound up this way on the Haven. TL;DR: A decent emotional horror yarn.
(Ignore play time; I played mostly through a copy from Itch.io before redeeming my key) Let me qualify this recommendation: you should give this a go if you've got a couple hours free to enjoy a decent revenge fantasy. A little taste for torture is a must. What the game does right: A strong start. Atmosphere conveyed through effective use of a simple soundtrack (particularly the piece with slow yet heart-pounding drums for scenes of tension). Cute, clean character art. A minimal UI to keep the focus on the story. Dynamic speech bubbles to display dialogue, adding rhythm and variety in longer conversations. Characters all have some nuance to them but, as expected, never cross the threshold to complex. This suits the story's goals just fine. What the game could do better: Editing and trimming. Despite being on the short side, this visual novel couldn't quite escape being overwritten. Scenes tend to drag on where punchiness would get across the emotion better. Speeches and exposition are too drawn out, dialogue too casual in times of urgency. The narration spends too much time stating what was already clear. The pickier reader may notice a jarring trend of characters listing off three or four parallelisms at once, always in the same style (short infinitive phrases), sometimes shortly after each other in the same conversation. There's few typos but a decent amount of random tense switching. I felt a poor story choice was made in
showing us Grace's betrayal before Magda knew.
The inclusion of her POV throttled the tension and took us out of Magda's shoes, which were far scarier to be in at the time. Overall, an experience worth two or three hours if you enjoy darker themes and have patience with a story repeating itself.
I loved it! It's a very nice short story. The trailer was a bit misleading, I thought there would be more animated scenes of the characters. The backgrounds were very nice the only complaint I have it is with the dorms BG it didn't really seem to match the theme of the convent imo. Other then that a great visual novel and a pretty quick read.
