Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 20/day in the week to Jul 16 → 0.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Backrooms Media takes the increasingly familiar liminal-horror concept and builds a surprisingly broad cooperative survival experience around it. Rather than relying exclusively on endless yellow corridors and sudden monster chases, the game combines exploration, environmental dangers, puzzles, entity encounters, equipment management, procedural elements, and cooperative objectives. It supports solo play as well as groups of up to four players, although its mechanics appear most naturally suited to friends communicating and surviving together. NPK Games serves as both developer and publisher, delivering a project with plenty of ideas even if the overall execution can feel rough around the edges. The environments are among its most important features. Backrooms Media expands well beyond the stereotypical Level 0 presentation by sending players into distinctly themed locations. Areas such as the Bunker, Dark Woods, Pink Labyrinth, Parking Lot, and deeper portions of Level 0 create different visual moods while introducing their own obstacles. Some environments expose players to extreme temperatures, others incorporate radiation or darkness, while maze-like locations emphasize navigation and puzzle solving. This variety prevents exploration from becoming entirely dependent on repeating corridors and gives each expedition a stronger sense of progression. There is also an underlying story for players willing to search for it. Notes and other discoveries reveal information concerning an earlier expedition, gradually providing context for the strange spaces being explored. The narrative is therefore woven into exploration rather than constantly interrupting gameplay with lengthy cinematic sequences. It is an appropriate storytelling method for this type of horror because unanswered questions remain part of the atmosphere. Searching an apparently abandoned location becomes more meaningful when a small discovery can reveal something about the people who were there previously. Entities are the central physical threat, with recognizable Backrooms creatures such as Bacteria, Smiler, and Kitty appearing among the dangers. Encounters are designed around more than simply spotting a monster and immediately sprinting in the opposite direction. Different entities can demand different reactions, encouraging players to observe behavior and recognize environmental warning signs. Darkness and uncertainty help make these encounters effective because players cannot always predict what lies around the next corner. The tension is strongest when the game gives just enough information to suggest danger without immediately revealing its location. One of its more unusual mechanics allows players to eventually become hunters themselves. Certain situations involve locating and capturing entities rather than merely escaping them. Equipment such as sensors, radars, decoys, and specialized devices can be used to detect or manipulate threats, adding a tactical layer to exploration. This significantly changes the usual Backrooms formula. Instead of remaining helpless throughout the entire experience, players can prepare traps, coordinate roles, track creatures, and deliberately place themselves in dangerous situations to accomplish an objective. Procedural generation adds uncertainty by changing layouts and conditions between expeditions. Expanding biomass and increasing darkness can further complicate navigation, ensuring that familiarity does not completely remove the tension. This approach gives the game replay value because memorizing one successful route will not necessarily solve every future attempt. Combined with different hazards and entities, the changing layouts make repeated multiplayer sessions less predictable, although procedural environments can occasionally lack the deliberate pacing and carefully arranged scares of handcrafted horror levels. Cooperative play is arguably where the concept becomes most entertaining. Proximity-based voice communication means teammates cannot always depend on effortless communication across an entire level. Becoming separated can therefore create genuine tension, particularly when one player discovers a threat while another is too far away to hear the warning. Groups can coordinate puzzles, monitor different directions, operate equipment, distract entities, or deliberately use someone as bait while preparing a trap. These emergent situations can be memorable because they arise naturally from player decisions rather than from completely scripted sequences. The environmental survival mechanics also make exploration more involved. Temperature changes, radiation, darkness, and location-specific dangers require players to consider more than monster encounters. The strongest moments occur when several threats overlap, forcing the group to decide whether continuing deeper into an area is worth the risk. At the same time, having numerous interconnected systems can make the game feel less focused. Players seeking straightforward psychological horror may find that equipment and survival mechanics occasionally compete with the atmosphere instead of strengthening it. Replayability receives another boost from Steam Workshop integration and the included level editor. Community-created levels are particularly well suited to the Backrooms concept because the setting can accommodate almost any surreal, abandoned, or architecturally impossible environment. Procedural variation, multiplayer sessions, achievements, official locations, and custom content collectively give the game more longevity than a short linear horror adventure. Players interested in creating their own environments may get considerably more value from the package than those planning to experience the official content only once. Its greatest weakness is the gap between ambition and refinement. Backrooms Media contains a substantial collection of interesting ideas, but the overall experience does not always feel as polished as the feature list suggests. A game combining multiplayer networking, proximity chat, procedural generation, enemy artificial intelligence, environmental hazards, puzzles, custom content, and specialized equipment has many interconnected systems that need to work reliably. When something feels inconsistent, the carefully established tension can quickly disappear. Consequently, players who are tolerant of indie-game roughness are likely to appreciate the experimentation more than those expecting highly polished survival horror. Steam Deck compatibility is currently not officially established through a Steam Deck Verified or Playable rating. It is therefore safest to consider the game unverified rather than fully Steam Deck optimized. Compatibility-layer operation may still be possible, but its first-person interface, online cooperative functionality, voice communication features, and graphical demands mean the handheld experience should not be assumed to match a conventional Windows PC installation. Players purchasing specifically for Steam Deck should keep this uncertainty in mind. Backrooms Media ultimately succeeds more as an ambitious interpretation of cooperative liminal horror than as a completely refined one. Its diverse environments, entity behaviors, environmental hazards, non-linear exploration, procedural variation, proximity communication, creature-capturing mechanics, Workshop support, and level editor provide considerably more substance than a basic Backrooms walking simulator. There are clear imperfections, but there is also a creative foundation capable of producing tense and entertaining sessions, especially with friends. Players fascinated by the Backrooms and willing to accept some unevenness may discover an interesting multiplayer horror experiment, while those demanding polished mechanics and consistently sophisticated scares may find the rougher aspects difficult to ignore.
