You have found yourself in a space that reminds you of nothing, and everything. A space of rooms, that are both comfortingly familiar, yet strangely unknown. A space of quiet and loneliness. You have found the BACK*SPACE. You aren't sure if you are alone. You aren't sure if you want to leave.

Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.71/day in the week to Aug 16 → 1.14/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
Why do you keep searching?
BACK*SPACE is a liminal space exploration game that focuses on the aesthetic of liminal spaces. The player finds themselves suddenly thrown into a strange new place, consisting of empty corridors, forgotten rooms, strange pools, and surreal architecture. Can you find a way out of this place? Or, do you want to stay a little longer?
How long will you stay?
BACK*SPACE is uncanny, but still somehow feels comfortable and inviting. Nothing is chasing you, there are no entities, no threats of danger. Explore a little while you are here, and see what you might find. Search at your own pace.
Where is this place?
BACK*SPACE consists of 16 unique levels, each with varying themes. 8 levels feel like forgotten offices, malls, and rooms, and smell of moist carpet and molding wallpaper. 8 levels feel like poolrooms, and lure you in with calm waters. These levels are inspired by backrooms lore, and feature some familiar takes, and some maybe less familiar. A wanderer can explore any level at any time, and does not have to progress in any linear order. These rooms are confusing and somewhat maze-like, but the way out is still reachable, if you really want to leave...
After an introductory level, wanderers find themselves in a home ‘Hub’ of sorts, that connects to each of these 16 levels. But also, one final Exit elevator in this room is found, glowing in the light of a mass of television screens. Is this the way out? Do you want to leave? You are welcome to stay as long as you like…
What do you keep finding?

Each main level has a VHS tape hidden somewhere in its rooms. This tape can show up in different places each time a wanderer visits, encouraging the wanderer to explore and look a little more closely. Some objects are decoys. Audio cues throughout a level may appear, trying to lead you on your exploration, maybe towards your tape, maybe towards the way out. Sometimes, a tape may be more tucked away and difficult to find, but, a wanderer only needs to find a VHS tape if they truly wish to move on from this place. 16 tapes, 16 screens…
Each found tape will show up at Home in the collection, and finding a tape will also enable a signal that the tape has been found in its level, but you could return for a wander if you wish.
Some levels are more maze-like while others are a bit more linear in nature, but in all of them you will start to feel your state of mind aligning with the level’s namesake. Many rooms are dark, but your flashlight will help. An explorer that feels trapped can save/reload and would restart at the beginning of the current level. Remember, the VHS tapes are not required to unlock anything except the Hub Exit. There are no active entities or monsters in this game to pressure your exploration (although there are a few spooky moments scattered throughout), your player is never in any real danger. Your exploration, and your findings, are entirely up to you.
Are you watching closely?
BACK*SPACE features multiple options to adapt the visual experience. It begins with a heavy analog/VHS look, but multiple VHS effects can be removed in game options if a clean look is desired. This is meant to help with wanderers who may be sensitive to motion sickness.
Other options include disabling head-bob effects, use-icon effects, footstep sounds, look sensitivity, and audio disable.
Some areas utilize some flickering fluorescent lights. It is not particularly extreme by any means, but users with photosensitivity should proceed with caution.
BACK*SPACE features a manual save ability, so wanderers can continue wandering at a later time. 3 save slots are usable. Saving will store tapes found, time played, and current level. Saving once you return Home is recommended, to make venturing forth easier.
BACK*SPACE can be played with either keyboard/mouse or XBOX controller.
There is no music currently in BACK*SPACE. This is intended to draw the wanderers focus to the visual aspect, however, it also enables a wanderer to turn on their own liminal playlist if they desire.
Is this what you want?
BACK*SPACE features a free demo. The demo includes 2 of the 16 main levels, one ‘room’ style, one ‘pool’ style, along with the intro and hub rooms. The demo shows the true BACK*SPACE experience, just not all the levels are reachable. Wanderers are encouraged to ‘try before you buy’ to see if this liminal walking sim is something they would enjoy.
The demo should provide about 2-3 hours of liminal exploration. The full game can provide 20+ hours of exploration to a dedicated explorer, but, generally speaking, the average wanderer might get 10-12 hours on a single playthrough. New playthroughs may place the VHS tapes in different locations, and thus lead explorers to different rooms a second time around.
BACK*SPACE is built in UE5, using Lumen technology. Lumen seems to have issues sometimes with certain graphics cards. It is Highly Encouraged that a wanderer try the demo first if there is concern with maybe some older hardware. Many UE5 pre-made assets have been used in this game, credits for in-game assets can be found in-game upon completion and reaching the Hub Exit. No AI was used in the making of BACK*SPACE.

Amazing game with good visuals, sometimes find it hard to find the tapes but makes it fun, so don't get too caught up in trying to find them, enjoy the experience. I def recommend people to play if they like liminal space and walking simulator without any threats.
one of the most soulless and pointless games out there. makes the conscious choice to "wow" you with terrible filters/fluff and somewhat decent graphics to make you forget the level design is bland, confusing and empty. and this is coming from someone who loved what games like poolrooms and classrooms have going on. BACK*SPACE has the creativity of a GMOD mapper making their 3637th backrooms clone on commission because they know 12 year olds will bankroll their clients with microtransactions. (and for some reason this game asks you for a firewall exception?) it offers nothing to the table, cheap "horror" and "intrigue" throughout with nothing unique. It's a backrooms game. with no plot, nothing inside. it's slop meant for the lowest common denominator. avoid.

This game would be great if it wasn't just "hug left wall" Okay now "hug right wall" the aesthetics are great but its not very scary to me and I'm an avid backrooms fan. not unsettling enough and not enough ambiance diversity. The gameplay felt more like a chore rather than just exploring the backrooms. some puzzles here and there would've been nice and i feel that the original charm of the backrooms can be captured just fine without entities or jump scare (The complex: expedition did a great job at this). I really don't want to dis all the hard work that the developer put into this because from a artistic standpoint, this is an awesome game, just a bit boring to me.
Recommended This game is a solid choice for players interested in exploring liminal spaces without typical survival horror elements. It offers a calm experience centered on walking through environments inspired by famous liminal photos, without the threat of being chased by hostile entities. * Entity-Free Exploration: There are no monsters or threats chasing you through the levels. You can navigate every location at your own pace. * Atmosphere Over Terror: Due to the lack of entities, this is not a traditional Backrooms horror simulator. The only real horror comes from the subtle, existential dread that liminal photographs naturally evoke. * Inspired Environments: The levels capture the distinct vibe of iconic liminal spaces and photos rather than trying to be strict, one-to-one recreations. * A Different Approach: While most liminal and Backrooms-style games on Steam focus on survival mechanics and monster encounters, this title functions primarily as a relaxing walking simulator. * Good Performance: The game is well-optimized. On a system with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3070, it runs smoothly at 60 FPS at 1440p resolution with all graphics settings maxed out. Conclusion: A recommended pick if you want to soak in the atmosphere of liminal spaces without the stress of being stalked or hunted.
Fun, interesting gameplay and a clear trajectory. There's a few visual glitches and some clippning, but I appreciate the ability to heavily customize the camera/POV visuals, it definitely makes the game more accessible for me, which I really appreciate. I will definitely come back to play this one more than once.
BACK*SPACE is one of the best liminal space games in terms of quality and content both. The only game that has better quality is POOLS but POOLS has much less content. With 16 unique levels, 8 pools, 8 not pools it has you playing much longer and seeing much more. I love the bright neon areas and how wonderfully unique the areas are and many of them are simply stunning and gorgeous. I really enjoyed that you had a home base within the backrooms that had different paths to enter the different levels instead of just a menu to pick from. looking for the VHS was a great addition to the exploring because it kept you looking in smaller places and i was never confused at the objective, just explore and keep an eye out for it. I love the way each VHS looked. Im not a fan of the invisible walls but after i got used to them it bothered me less. I find that the high number of levels really adds to the replayability and im enjoying additional runs to revisit all of my fav places. The only reason this isnt my favorite over POOLS is because I love sitting in chairs to soak in the environment. If this game adds the ability to sit in chairs then it would be hands down the best one to me.
这游戏是真给我玩晕了,永远找不到磁带
Great vibes, great levels, does exactly what it's trying to do quite well. No entities, clever audio cues for the collectibles AND the level exits, fully customisable VHS visuals and a cheeky, unexpected Friends reference in Level 6 out of nowhere tucked away off the beaten path. I'm not finished yet, but after finding that reference I figured this game deserved a review. Definitely recommend!
Some of the best environments in the genre. Visual identity and aesthetic work perfectly throughout, even if gameplay is minimal. This definitely scratches the liminal exploration itch, without being full of scares or frustration. Simple mechanics, and because of that it's missing something. Without much music, thrills, or objectives to keep things fresh it can start to feel stale. There were a few "scares?" that were very welcome. If I had to nitpick about anything technical, I would have appreciated allowing the user to dial in the intensity of the visual effects and movement to their liking. I found most of the VHS VFX and head bobbing to be too strong. Changing the flashlight intensity and cone size is great and something most games don't have, so it really would have completed the package with being able to change more of the settings, too. Overall, I think BACK*SPACE is priced right for what you get here. I hope the developer continues on to make more. 7.2/10
