IF, like me, you were about in 1993 during in your teenage years (or maybe younger/older) you will remember the following fondly: o Matchbox, o Disney's Aladdin & the much missed Robin Williams (Way before Woke) o UB40, Ace of Base, 2 Unlimited and Dreams by Gabrielle made up the top five HITS not forgetting Mr Blobby!!! & PERHAPS like me, your life was forever changed by two things: Jurassic Park & THIS Game MicroProse B-17 Flying Fortress: World War II Bombers in Action!! Whilst my friends were chasing the girls around town, I was listening to Frank Sinatra & Perry Como whilst Flying in Real-Time over occupied Europe to drop a payload on the Nazis War Machine, hoping to make it through 25 Missions and see out the war....That Never happened. But this along with other MicroProse offerings, started me on the road to being passionate about all things simulation and remains the case today (with a large number of years off in between). So I flew this today on my laptop: https://youtu.be/6aydY5a4LcA I had forgotten ALL the controls (no Joystick) & was learning on the fly (if you forgive the pun); whilst also looking after my daughter and Niece at the time, but we still hit our target and got home! It is 2024 and it is worth grabbing for nostalgia purposes, but not much more. If nothing else it reminds you just how much your immersion (and imagination) were at the centre of it all, because it was and remains to be quite limited overall....and yet! Dropping those bombs right in the pickle barrel still makes me proud........we won't talk about the landing ;-)
One of my favourite games ever,... so, so brilliant in it's time. But,.... it's not really playable in this day and age. It's a bit rich asking money for it, maybe all proceeds should go to charity. If you have money to burn, I'd suggest donating to charity instead.
To complicated for some one born after 1990
When B-17 originally came out in 1992, this 15 year old played it on hard repeat. My grandfather was in the Air Force during WWII and the stories he told had me in awe, so naturally I wanted to complete every mission this brilliant sim presented. Younger players will probably give this a miss due to the old graphics, but it is even to this day one of the most detailed sims covering the subject. This of course comes from a time when games used to come with 200+ page manuals, maps and keyboard charts. I would love to see a modern day remake, but the odds of that are low because it would be poor form to put micro transactions and add-on DLC into game subject like this. It's great to see this on steam. Hello old friend.
I picked this one up on sale as it was a childhood favourite back in the 90s and it was a bit of fun to bring back old memories however it is definitely a game of its time. Very slow and clunky game-play in comparison to more modern options as to be expected and only really playable for nostalgic purposes.
GOOD AS IT WAS BACK IN 92
Launcher is broken, play button is not there just option. plz fix
This is stunning, the nostalgia is real. Also nice is the upgrades that I missed out on having played on an Amiga 500 (more bombers in formation etc.)
Masters of the Air has nothing on this gem. It's a B-17 in flight sim from over 30 years ago that still can't be beat.
It's like playing a game blindfolded :D Because you have no clue what the controls are :)
