Axis Football 2017

Having so much fun with this game... as far as non-NFL, non-Madden games go, this is top notch. I've been turned off of Madden for a long time, so this game has been awesome to see progress to the point it is at now. It's not perfect, but it's fun and that's all that really matters. Gameplay is fast and smooth - it reminds me a bit of Tecmo Bowl back in the day. The aimed passing is a lot of fun, I still have to get around to setting up my controller with joy2key so I can combine controller movement with mouse aimed passing... then I think I will have the perfect set up. From all I've heard about the devs, they do a really nice job supporting and improving the game after it has been released, so I think the game will continue to get better from here on out. I do have a few "cons" with this game, but they are not game breaking, and they definitely do not outwiegh the positives. For one, the game is a little easy - playing on Hall of Fame, I still whip the computer by a couple of tds on 90% of the occasions. 2nd - kick and punt returning is too easy as well - a 40-50 yard return is almost assured, and KO return tds are commonplace. WR's drop the ball a bit too often, and the CPU tends to throw a few too many picks (I picked off 9 passes in one 5 min qtr game, but that was an outlier thus far). However, the pros destroy the cons in this game. First off, it's a fun game of football - fast and smooth (missing an animation here or there, but all in all it plays quite well). Secondly, the team creation mode is the best creation mode in any sports game that I have ever played in my life. As long as you have photoshop or the Gimp, the only limit is your imagination. It really is fantastic. As I said, other than a few hiccups here and there, this game is worth far more than it's price tag... the uniform creator is worth that alone - sometimes I call this game "Football Player Dress-up Simulator 2017", as you can have so much fun with that aspect of the game. All in all, it may not be Madden (yet) in terms of graphics, bells and whistles, but it's a ton of fun and I would play this over Madden 18 any day of the week.

This game has a lot of potential. Like, I cant wait for the fully re-vamped/upgraded franchise mode in 2018. I am really glad more football games are coming out. Hopefully this genre grows, so EA's monopoly on football can hopefully be challenged. I will be supporting Axis Games for every good football game they come out with and I will feel very happy, as its not going to EA.

This review is coming in two parts as this game needs to be looked at. First, is the standalone view of the game and what the devs are doing. And secondly, I will campare, like all games in a select genre there is a style that is looked at that all games try to emulate, and in this case would be madden. So first off. I have a low-mid end pc and on similar graphic settings, the game runs very smooth, and looks pretty darn good for the settings, and on videos I have seen of people playing on high end pcs with top settings, the game looks gorgeous and plays just as smooth. Fantastic optismazation by the devs. The controls feel pretty fluid with a controller, and kind of iffy with keyboard and mouse. The aiming passing with the mouse completely shattered the standard button passing, I love it, but I have a hard time getting used to the jagged 8 direction movement of the keyboard with a personal opinion wonky key commands, but that is just me. When playing at speed, everything looks and plays as I would expect a 3 year old football game series to play when they have an amazingly devoted team behind it with constant updates and crowd sourced ideas. When slowed down, everything that should be in a football game, gameplay wise, is getting there year after year. The pocket, the running lanes, decent tackle animation. The point where the game is at with how it looks and plays, is a really nice balance as it does, what you would expect it to do. Be a little choppy, but solid. Very fun in creating a whole universe one afternoon, then the next be able to simulate years down the road just the see everything play out. The franchise is like a Betty Crocker recipe, it is good as a standalone if you take it without experience or expectations being it is a fantastic base that is solid and would not let you down ever. That being said, it is a good base, and like a lot of Betty Crocker recipes, it is good, but sometimes you just need to add a little cinnamon here, some sugar there, and now you have a fantasic football game. And after following these guys for awhile, they are bringing the whole spice rack into the dev cycle. Absolutely buy just for the fact that I don't think that I have ever seen a game progress as much in 3 years as this series. This game is fun to play and has a good base. Now my second point. Comparing to madden. This game is not madden. Is it as pretty? No. Will it be? Very easily could be in a few years. Does this game have fancy presentation? No. WIll it? Absolutely in a few years. Is it a game series that is 25+ years old and have the money that comes along with it? No. Will it? Time, possibly, money? Personally I think that by 2020, NFL continues license with madden, yet Axis is right next to it in sales. Does this game not care about it fans and only cares about money with cash scam card building modes? No. Will it. Never. This game strives to be what madden used to be about, and what used to make it fun, and instead of taking good ideas that didn't work the first year and toss them in the trash like the vision cone, it will keep them and refine them and make them better because thats what good game teams do. Everything is trial, error, correct and repeat. Not trial, error, keep the same or trial, error, and toss out and bring back the errored way 3 years later and claim it is a new thing altogether. Should you buy this game for its standalone gameplay and what it offers? 7/10 being some people live and die by graphics and the shiny new thing. For those people, don't. But for the people who care about decent gameplay for the price and a constant striving for simulation football, absoletly buy. Should you buy this game to compete with Madden? 9/10. The only thing that would make somebody not want what these people are doing, is they like the NFL. They like playing with NFL teams. There is absoletly nothing wrong with that. But if you want to see a game do what it says it will, and do what other games say they do but dont, then absoletly buy this game.

I just bought this game lasat night. Now, I have read some real unfair reviews of your product. For some reason they expect Madden on the PC. EA may have the budget, but Axis has the heart! This game rocks! Just finished a game wherein the PC and myself had a scoring frenzie, and it was a BLAST!!! If you are purchasing this game expecting a polished product with millions of dollars poured into it's development, then go get a console and get Madden. However, if you like football on the PC, and love the creative hearts of small software companys on a limited budget; still publishing quality games, look no further than Axis 2017. I have 2015, 2016, and now 2017; I love them all!!! Each season keeps getting just a little better. Keep up the good work!!! You guys rock!

I wanted to like this game, I really did. But it makes it so hard to recommend it. The gameplay is bad, not terrible, but bad. The Physics laughable and AI a joke. And no, I'm not comparing it to Madden, I'm comparing it to Front Page Sports Pro Football 98. So no I'm not recomending it to anyone, there are better, and free, games out there even if they are 20 years old.

10/3/2017 UPDATE: Just get Mutant Football League. Stay away from this. You're welcome. --- This is a tough one for me, because I legitimately want to recommend this game. Every time I start it up I get a little excited, the game just looks so promising. You know it's not going to be Madden but it looks like one of those neat little PC gems with so much potential. However, pretty quickly things go off the rails. The customization options are nice, every player's skills can be modified from 1 – 99, but unless you want to make a team of absolute beasts with 99 skills all over the place what's the point? Kicking 80 yard field goals is fun at first but it obviously gets old quickly. You can also customize your team's jerseys, again pretty cool on its face, but this isn't enough to get me into the game. The actual football of this game is borderline atrocious. Players fly into the air after being tackled or, alternatively, magically dodge every tackle even when players slam directly into them. Passing with the mouse, for me at least, is rough; lotta interceptions and incompletes. There's no penalties, no trading in franchise mode, no free agents, no injuries, and I didn't play it long enough to find out but it doesn't look like there's any kind of draft; so essentially you just play the same season over and over again, there's no progression. Also, if you ask your coach to just suggest a play on offense it doesn't even tell you if it's a pass or run play. The whole presentation of the actual game is fairly lacking as well, just bland. Overall, if this is your only choice for football I guess ... I mean... maybe? It depends on how desperate you are, and that's the key word here: desperate. If you have Madden, stick with Madden. I know it's unfair to compare this game to Madden but what else is there to compare it to? Maybe get Blood Bowl instead, that game is fun as hell. This would've been a really fun game in the PS2 era, but even with the lowered expectations that go along with indie PC titles this just isn't worth it. Maybe next year.

at time of review I have 68 hours . First I get a real kick out of the bad reviews that have less then 5 hours. makes me think they are mommy's kids living in there basements ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about paying 20 bucks for food a week. much less getting a job . They cry about a game that is made by a group full time workers doing it after a job to support a family . at 15 bucks ,,,,,off sale it is worth it yes not a Madden game but then I am not paying 80.00 bucks to support a bunch of people that kneel for the National anthem. the 2 top QB's make a combined 68 million . in NFL why give them more money from a game This game is not perfect has some faults but is playable , can enjoy it . do not need a xbox or top end computer mine is pretty good I bought it since my nephew has madden wanted to practice a little before I go visit again and play him. great for that streams plays well play calling is pretty good I have not read the manual yet to find out all the fine points . Yes uniforms are not NFL but then again from a past season ticket holder of jets when Shea stadium was still around . I don't really care the NFL is not what it once was 1500.00 for 4 tickets to Houston game in mid deck I don't think so for what I love the real game but not what the left liberals have made it into Buy this game if only to help support those who love the game of Football but not all the Bs they have allowed to follow with it Oh and if going write a bad review at least play the game first

Axis Football continues to grow and get better. Improvements to gameplay, teams, stadiums, designs from 2016 show. This is not Madden XX, but it is a good game that is maturing. It's not just a roster update every year. The game itself is fun and the passing mechanic is a nice option since it allows you to lead players as you need. The start of a franchise mode is there and will continue to improve over time. If you want a complete sim with all the rules in the game, it may not be for you, yet. But, if you want football on the PC it's a great option.
