First of all, just so you know, this really is "a platformer with Metroidvania elements," as advertised, not a proper Metroidvania. Most of the content is all along one straight path. Think Wonder Boy as opposed to Metroid. In addition, the game systems aren't all that complex or development-intensive. That said, this game is fun for what it tries to be and for its price. It is fairly difficult though.
The game feels very fluid, with precise controls and simple but satisfying combat. The metroidvania-style progression, with new abilities unlocking paths and encouraging exploration, makes the adventure even more engaging. I highly recommend it for fans of metroidvanias and classic platformers.
The premise is fairly standard and opens with demonic forces attacking your village. Refusing to let them escape, you set off in pursuit armed with nothing but your ability to grab and throw objects. Fortunately, early on you find a sword in the first chest along the road, and a merchant provides you with a bow that has unlimited ammunition. Although you can jump, you cannot damage enemies by stomping on them. Instead, combat follows a more traditional approach with sword slashes or downward thrusts performed mid-jump. Throwing objects is also possible, but it is used mainly for moving unbreakable items such as barrels and springs to help you reach higher areas. Progression is straightforward. Movement is limited to left and right as you face threats along the way. The world consists of individual screens that transition when you reach the edge or find an opening to the next area. Screens are never locked, so you can always backtrack if needed. The game features the usual pits, spikes, and other environmental hazards, along with a variety of enemies. Most foes can be defeated with just a few slashes, but they deal significant damage in return, meaning you can survive only a handful of hits. This is clearly a more demanding platformer, as falling into a pit or onto spikes results in instant death. That said, the difficulty remains fair. Checkpoints are generously placed, saving your progress and restoring your health. While you have no direct healing ability, potions frequently drop from enemies and breakable objects, especially when your health is low. Coins are also abundant and easy to farm since enemies and objects respawn when you switch screens. However, loot is not magnetic, so it often falls into pits and is lost. One of the more enjoyable aspects of the game is its light blend of RPG and metroidvania elements. These additions are subtle and serve to give the platforming formula a bit of extra character, but they don’t deliver complex mechanics. The metroidvania influence appears in the abilities you must acquire to overcome certain obstacles. Early on, you gain the power to break rocks, and later you learn to swim and double jump. While this does require some backtracking, the world is so small that it never becomes frustrating. The RPG elements revolve around gear purchased from merchants, found in chests, or obtained as enemy drops. Item drops are rare and seem to be unique to specific enemies, but there is no indication of what any particular foe might carry. At first, it is not even obvious that enemies can drop equipment such as improved bows, stat boosting rings, or even an axe. Inventory space is limited, so hoarding equipment is not an option. To sell unwanted items, you must reach a village around the midpoint of the game, where a dedicated vendor handles transactions. In the same village, a magician can enhance your stats with runes, including increasing your luck to improve item drop chances, and a blacksmith can upgrade your current weapon. All of these services are expensive, so acquiring every upgrade requires considerable grinding. Merchants also sell basic upgrades such as better swords, armor, and additional health. While there are no hidden walls or elaborate secrets, some dead ends contain chests with occasional unique items or heart containers that increase your maximum health. You may also discover treasure rooms filled with a generous amount of coins. Equipment can only be changed at save points, though this restriction is not particularly troublesome. Later in the game, you unlock the ability to fast travel between save points, albeit only to the main save location within each of the five areas. Since the game does not emphasize major secrets, there is little incentive to revisit previous areas if you explored them thoroughly the first time. Each area concludes with a boss fight, though these encounters range from easy to moderately challenging. Overall, the game is not especially long, even with its instant death hazards. Still, it is a colorful and enjoyable platformer that can easily provide several hours of satisfying gameplay.
foi um prazer ser beta tester dessa coisa linda :)
I absolutely loved my time with this game! Great gameplay, it even has a system to sell itens you don't use, how cool is that in a title this size!? Fantastic! I died i lot in the begining, but i did some grinding (even the grinding was fun for me) and the game became even more enjoyable for me! I had a lot of fun with this game, from start to finish!
