About
Automaton Heart is an RPG with platforming elements where you visit obscure and interesting places while upgrading your organs and strategizing about which items to bring along.
Upgrading organs will influence not only your combat stats, but also will unlock new features for your automaton. Upgrade the mind to gain useful navigation tools or upgrade your lungs to breath underwater for longer.
Different tools will help you gain access to new areas but you may only carry so many at a time.
The world remains persistent so you can stash items and come back for them later, but beware of enemies that can stalk you between areas or steal items off your person or the floor.
Periods of action are punctuated by stretches of pure exploration and rest areas where the player may choose to deal with their equipment and upgrades.
Play through the stories of the automatons Uma, Alma, and Misha experiencing their unique abilities and traits.
Each of the three characters have a set of six unique abilities with a wide range of different effects like allowing the player to summon a friendly companion or jet through the air for a short time.
Players will need to assess their equipment and stats, make hidden item stashes, and plan to bring an adequate bundle of supplies for an excursion into the unknown.
Shopkeepers and friendly sentient creatures in the world can trade useful items so you'll have to think before you act during an encounter.
Gain experience levels to generate organ cores, and then choose how you distribute organ cores amongst each organ to upgrade them.
Experience is gained by finding new secret areas, defeating enemies, or choosing to invest computer chips into your own body vs. selling them to a shopkeeper.
For reading a little bit about my game. I worked a long time on it and didn't use generative tools of any kind so I hope for human expression to shine through in the work I did.

i dont usually write reviews, its hard for me to sum up my personal opinions of something that i really liked because i have my own reasons for liking the more specific aspects of it that others just may not have. i adore games that plop you into a world and ask you to do the exploring on your own, i really like being given that freedom as a player. the lack of knowledge openly given and the responsibility thats on me to find out and piece together on my own is really satisfying for me and encourages my curiosity, which only eagerly makes me want to spend another 8 straight hours playing it late into the night. i played automaton lung first to get a feel of the basics and a general sense of what it offered, and i thought it was charming for what i was given. playing this right after i got done with lung, it was immediately clear to me that this is a completely fleshed out version of it. being introduced to the new mechanics after already being familiar with the basics was really fun. the soundtrack is insanely good too. i understand that not everyone has the patience or time or just simply wont be attracted to a game that puts the responsibility of figuring out where to even go onto the player. but this is an amazing game if you love that kind of stuff or if youre searching to experience something like this for the first time.

This is a weird weird game. I only had somewhat of an idea of what I was doing and I enjoyed every moment of it. Took me about 10 hours to beat. Only died one time (in the underwater segment). It is a good prequel to Automaton Lung, though goes in a different direction gameplay wise when compared to that game. Really good soundtrack on this one.
Full Review: https://youtu.be/2ladyaBDuO8 TL;DW I'm conflicted about this game, it's a step up in world complexity, world building, and mechanics from the original however, the new mechanics and world size feel unjustified. It's still a fascinating world to explore and discover and I hope to see more, but the whole experience feels more shallow than the predecessor.
I don't like reviewing games until I'm completely done with them, but I really want more people to check this one out. One of the coolest games I've played in a while and I feel like I've only just scratched the surface. Such a neat open world to explore with actual worthwhile stuff to discover in it. Very awesome game with a very awesome vibe (:
This is immediately incredible.
At first, I was a little apprehensive when I found out Heart was going to be an RPG (having played Automaton Lung a lot, and generally not being a fan of RPGs), but Automaton Heart absolutely nails the balancing act involved in Action RPGs. It offers fleshed out combat play in a large and fun to explore open world, while still delivering the Luke Vincent brand weirdness a lot of this dev's fans have come to love. I got to the game's ending after about 8 hours of gameplay, and this is without exploring all of the areas. The map is huge, there are plenty of side areas completely detached from the main quest, so I'd say you get plenty of game for how much you're spending here. Obviously I still have my own little gripes with the game, I think the day-night cycle was slightly annoying and didn't completely understand character abilities. I also agree with what some other reviewers are saying that moving around the overworld could do with being faster, and I also think the game's weakest portion is its first ~30 minutes, but I wholeheartedly recommend the game to anybody who's a fan of Luke Vincent's work or niche indie titles in general. Also see attached PC Specs: If you've played Luke Vincent's previous games, this one might be a bit tougher to run. It does come alongside enough video options to get it to work (at least in my case, you can see how bad my specs are and I still enjoyed it lol), so if you're playing on a potato like me I wouldn't worry too much
very intriguing and curiosity driven indie game, loved exploring this "empty" world and trying to understand it. shout out for the amazing music made both by luke and crisp, also amazing cover art. some advices for who find themselves interested in playing: if you are not used to indie/old games that have "unpolished" mechanics (being on purpose or not) this game can be very stressful, so keep that in mind but also, as a perfeccionist myself, dont be so eager to 100% everything cause at least as i write this progression and the "economy" of the game can be very, how do i put it, ankward? regarding the lore, while playing it i love making theories and taking screenshots of notes spread across the different areas, my conclusion before the end of the game was actually relatively different from the autor's vision, but im pleased with my interpretation. ITS WORTH IT!!! all my love for luke and the additional artists
the fish shoot neurotoxin, 10/10
This game is so inspired. It's not perfect. It's got bugs, it's janky, but it's got so much soul that it really makes up for anything negative I would say about it. It feels like American McGee's Alice meets MDK meets late 90's/2000's techno/rave aesthetics. It's really great! The ONLY thing that does bother me is that it doesn't deal well with alt-tabbing to another window. I think it might be because ALT is assigned to something in-game. Doesn't deal well with Tab. Sometimes it works, other times you lose the ability to do anything and will need to force-shut the game. So just.... play the game and don't let other things disturb you while playing, I guess!
