This is a truly awesome game! If you like Tower Defense games at all, you have to get this one. Not only can you play with the help of someone else on your computer, you can play alone in VR. I really like how the VR player can actually go from tabletop Tower Defense, and get immersed in the action by transforming into the map, and help your towers fight the invaders. My only complaint thus far is even in normal difficulty, it is still very difficult to progress to the different stages. I hope the developer gives the old guys like me an Easy version soon. Awesome graphics as well at a great price of less than $20.
This is a great game, it's really good for showing people the ropes of VR too! The replayability is also really good, and the music really bops too. With the multiplayer mode pc/vr using the same pc is really cool too. A definite 10/10 game!
Experienced on the Oculus Rift and Windows Mixed Reality
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/kVma4r4uF3I Automata Break is a Tower Defense / First Person Shooter Hybrid which can be played solo or online coop. It is in Early Access and currently has 10 levels with 8 waves each. You have 5 types of tower defenses, along with 5 different weapons you can personally wield. You can upgrade them 3 times as well. There are 7 different types of enemies. Automata Break is a solid TD / FPS hybrid game, that ran smoothly on my 1060 GTX at a steady 90 frames per second. It's running on the Unity Engine. I experienced zero issues. You have full locomotion and snap turning during the battle phase. You have a top down view during the planning stage where you can rotate the table for an easier view of the field. Unfortunately, I found the core gameplay to be uninspired and the game to be overall just average. The biggest issue for me was the proper lack of pacing for this game and the lack of depth. While there are 10 levels, they all look very similar. The layouts may be different, but there isn't enough variety. Every tower, weapon, & upgrade is available to you from the very first level. It also seems that every enemy is there from the first level. There are 8 waves in each level and if you are defeated, you do have to restart from the very first wave. I found the same strategy that worked on the first level, was working in all the levels I played up to level 5. Basically, just making sure that my tower defenses had an even mix of defenses spread out through the field. Also, to be sure to be attentive when my help was needed and to keep an eye on my own health. Rinse and repeat. No new challenges were introduced in my time during this game. Rate 5/10. This is a neutral recommendation. It's just completely average for a VR Tower Defense game. It's in Early Access so my review is subject to change depending on future updates.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator connect program. EDIT: While some of what I said when I wrote this review not too long after the game launched is still true, the developer is releasing updates it appears to improve the game experience beyond what is already really fun. Keep it up! Played for a little while with my wife using the co-op desktop/VR mode. The game has a lot of potential and is fun as-is, however, I hope the dev adds additional guns and dynamics to the game play. The skill tree is cool but needs more branches and powerups. I would prefer more powerups and skill branches NOW... even if it means they are unbalanced and a bit unpolished. It would also be nice to have new environment textures but honestly if you could just increase the weapon and power variety a bunch I would look past so many other things. Worth the money now, but only if the dev plans on updating things to keep us interested.
Quite fun game. It still needs some work, but performancewise it runs really well. The soundtrack is great, and replayability is absolutely given.
An excellent VR game. It's pretty immersive, very strategical and skill rewarding, smooth locomotion doesn't get you dizzy and playing it with a friend in Multiplayer (PC/VR) makes for a lot of time of fun without you both having to own a VR headset.
While a Native Online Multiplayer would be great. I have to say, it's a really fun game to jump into. The idea of being able to make it 2-player through 1 person controlling the combat armor and 1 person On overwatch setting down towers is a great way to get more people involved.
<---THIS GUY USES WMR! This game is a pleasant mix of tower defense and FPS. Top down view of the map where you can place and upgrade your towers, varying lanes keep you thinking. Once your done placing your towers you can teleport into a first person view and use different weapons to help your towers destroy the enemy. Seems polished for a new early access release. I believe this game needs different upgrade paths for the towers. To be able to choose between having my missal tower fire an extra rocket or increasing aoe range or just range in general. That would bring more depth. That was just an example. I recommend this title for fans of the genre.
so far this is a great game and is fun with others i can't wait to see what they will do with this game!
Haha turrets go pewpewpew! Memes aside: so far nice but could be much better.
