It's crazy how this game is just the best one <3 But like fr this is such a fun game to play, the mechanics are sooo cool, the characters and world building are such a joy to experience and the soundtrack is insanely good. There are a few slight bugs but none were gamebreaking or made me enjoy the game less. This is definitely one of my favorite games and it is a joy to replay. I recommend picking it up if you like bullet hell games with a large amount of variety, replayability, and cool characters :3
I already loved this game before, but now I URGE you to get it after the loopbreaker update. It essentially got reworked in its structure completely and does a much better job at telling its story without changing what was fun about playing it. Very good shooter with a striking artstyle and lovely soundtrack. I can't recommend it enough.
awesome game awesome art, I can't wait to play loopbreaker
BEAUTIFUL game every inch of this game is brimming with so much love and care!
it's peak
This is a pretty solid little shmup. The bosses are a definite highlight for me with how creative and unique they feel to encounter, but the areas all have their own fun gimmicks and the weapons all feel really good to use as well. The final area and TLB have some particularly inventive mechanics that I really enjoyed, despite coinciding with a pretty severe difficulty spike. Of course, the music and artwork are extremely good throughout, but the latter can sometimes run into issues with visual clarity; If you have trouble picking out several different kinds of bullets with different colors and trajectories all on a multicolored background, you may want to consider turning on background dimming. Overall, I enjoyed it. There's a lot to like here!
Not every day I come across a game that immediately grabs my attention and delivers it in such an interesting and fun experience. Back in 2022 this game was a very fun surprise to discover, as it was a perfect mix of my interests: music that makes me reminisce of games like Cave Story and Kero Blaster, themes and visual elements that reminds me of Rain World and Cambria Sword, and an easy to pick-up gameplay style that downwell and Star of Providence players might enjoy. With that said, the now current LOOPBREAKER is the definitive edition of this game. Even if you played ASTRONAUTILUS before, you need to play this version, as this update is a complete overhaul of its story and character presentation, paired with new music and gameplay elements that are a very welcome addition. In the legacy version, a good amount of the story was relegated to a nice premise and subtle worldbuilding. The current iteration however, focuses much more on the relationship of its characters and the world around them. This is something that is felt even during the gameplay segments. It's still shocking to me that this came as a FREE update (honestly this game was already worth buying just for the music alone). Basically all of this is to say that ASTRONAUTILUS is an underappreciated gem that is worth your time and money.
cool game i wish there were a lot more upgrades though, many of them dont feel particularly useful but this is an aeon-verified "good bullets" game. reminds me of studio pixel in a lot of good ways its very pretty! great palettes! and creatures! i beated the game and then got sent back to the hub with no items though. not sure if i did something wrong but it didnt seem like there was going to be anything in this game that had like branching paths. and, lacking a wiki or particularly helpful guide, i doth be stuck i mean. could open it up in undertalemodtool (appreciate the vm export guys) but i think i will wait for the upcoming big update. woo! lookin forward to it!
[note: this review was made before loopbreaker update, so it's heavily outdated] good roguelike shmup with a lot of obvious effort pulled into. people mention monolith a lot, i'd also add a game downwell to the list of obvious influences (my fav roguelike-genre-salad game so far). i can definitely see why game didn't got that popular though - even if bullet-hell, shmup is a specific genre and indeed game kind of lacks in dynamic. not that i see it as a problem imo - the gameplay is very nuanced and challenging. also, maybe that's around where rogue-like indie started running out of it's welcome? i dunno me dumb just wanted to write something meaningful in review. graphics are tasty, music is great and it hurts to see game w/ so much effort pulled into ost to not get that much attention. totally liked the game. found it hitting this strange gap in my wishlist (sorting by %rating), among other games that had not enough reviews to form rating to compare with other games. was totally worth it!
