Astronaut: The Best is an occult management adventure where people aren't just numbers: they're screwups. You must run a proper space academy using lies, witchcraft, and/or hard work. Guide cadets through a roguelite web of scandals and challenges, or the government will have you killed.

I've played this game a fair bit during the beta period, so my actual hours are higher than steam currently reflects. A delightful medley of time management sim and failure-is-fun roguelikey-ness where you're managing a small crew of simply terrible astronauts. Absolute delight to play.
I've played a lot of astronaut games in my day and none of them comes close to this one. Old, broken down astronaut games like "Astronaut vs. Astronaut", "Killer Astronauts from Outer Space", and even the classic Soviet indie darling "Intronaut Astronaut" don't even approach what "Astronaut: The Best" has to offer. This game has strategy, comedy, procedural narrative, and menu settings like you wouldn't believe. Give it a shot, but I'm warning you, it'll ruin all of the other astronaut games for you, forever.
Played the first couple of missions and it's a pretty fun time! Quirky as heck with a really strong sense of identity. Expect the weird and unexpected at every turn, I think fans of this genre will find a lot to like here.
At the start, the game didn't caught my eye because of visual baias of mine. However, moving forward through playing the game and experiencing it fully, the other elements in regards of the genre used for the game are present. There are different kind of events that could make you double think of what you tought was your best course of action to lead your crew towards the main goal of the mission you are playing, as well with other events that changes completely both your luck and strategy. With this happening both through training or day to day events in the game, it makes it challenging to pursue the sub and main goal of the mission successfully, and that is without considering the other events through your final and most important event at the end of each mission! There is a replayability value that makes this game worth to play it, as well with the charm that the game has with their Gods and misteries.
I played this during the Steam Next Fest and enjoyed it so was thrilled to be given a chance to play it again closer to release. A quirky management sim with Nickelodeon feeling animations. Failure of a check just means a humorous piece of dialogue follows, and win or lose on your space faring missions, you still progress. Only on the 3rd mission at the moment, but can't wait to see what other challenges the game throws at me. Runs great on Steam Deck as well! Also, I enjoyed noticing how often screens in the command centre lit up with "Butt Stuff". Worth checking out!
In my first round I convinced the people my astronaut was missing their pants because they donated their pants to the homeless, my best pilot was left-right confused, I made it to space and immediately lost one astronaut because they got sick, and then was fired because I didn't do enough cool stuff in space. But I made a five legged lion entity friend so I think everything will be okay in a new universe. Very funny and silly management game. Great art, funny writing, quick gameplay that's fun whether you "succeed" or "fail". Can't wait to see if I can keep my job in the next universe!
A ver. 10/10
The first game where failing is actually fun. One of the better things I enjoyed was learning from my mistakes, but also the hilarious process of "failing." Honestly, this game is like nothing I've ever played before. Everything from the unique play style to the unique art style. I totally dig the "1960s" theme since that was the highlight of the space age/race. This game makes you want to make better choices each time around. It's also not without its exciting and unpredictable curve balls. There's never a dull moment and there are more outcomes and options than you can keep track of. I look forward to continuously trying to "win" over the priests.
Wrestling with your stable of idiots and incompetents in an attempt to drag them across the finish-line is a challenging and amusing task. With vibrant art and music, Astronaut: The Best provides a unique and engaging experience.
Funny, chaotic, full of personality. Tremendously fun to poke at and learn different systems.
