The story follows our hero John, who is a veteran, trying to do amends in his screw up life and he only has his space ship AI, who still cares about him. The story latter unfolds some pretty interesting things about John, his life and his relationship with stuff around him.
The game itself is based on a dodging/blowing up stuff, but that quickly falls in background picture, since you have to outmaneuver the enemy, who are constantly changing. Your job is to save planets from incoming asteroids, while taking care of your affairs with other bounty hunters.

What an incredibly dull, lazily made game. You'll quickly notice the numerous typos and new line characters left in. Clearly nobody bothered to playtest or quality check this piece of shovelware. The actual gameplay is very, very, very repetitive. You have to destroy a set number of asteroids per level, with the amount and health of them increasing each time. They'll frequently spawn off screen and you can't shoot them. There are frequently visual issues and you can't destroy an asteroid without positioning yourself in a certain way. Every five levels there is a boss fight - they're bullet sponges that have a couple bullet hell patterns. Their projectiles block yours which makes the fight needlessly longer. They at least offered a snippet of variety, but the chore of doing the same level over and over again was not worth it.

Bought it without many expectations and ended up having a great time
A Simple Space Shooter That’s Fun for a While but Lacks Staying Power
Asteroid Bounty Hunter feels like one of those indie games that knows exactly what it wants to be and doesn't try to overcomplicate things. You jump into a spaceship, blast asteroids, fight enemy ships, collect rewards, and gradually improve your equipment. It's a straightforward arcade-style experience that can be entertaining in short sessions, but it also struggles to stay interesting for long periods. The first few hours were actually pretty enjoyable. There's something satisfying about flying through asteroid fields while destroying targets and collecting resources. The controls are easy to learn, and the game gets you into the action quickly without burying you under complicated systems. Progression is one of the better parts of the experience. Earning money, upgrading ships, and unlocking better equipment gives you a reason to keep playing. Even though the gameplay loop is fairly simple, having goals to work toward helps maintain some motivation. Where the game starts to lose momentum is in its repetition. Most missions eventually begin feeling very similar. You'll spend a lot of time doing variations of the same tasks, and after a while the excitement of upgrading your ship isn't enough to completely hide the lack of variety. Visually, the game does a decent job for a smaller indie project. Space environments look clean, explosions are satisfying enough, and ship designs are serviceable. Nothing here is groundbreaking, but it fits the arcade space shooter style well. Combat is fun but relatively basic. There's enough action to keep things moving, but the mechanics don't evolve significantly as the game progresses. Once you've experienced the core systems, there aren't many surprises waiting later on. The audio is perfectly acceptable but not especially memorable. Weapon sounds, explosions, and background music support the gameplay without standing out. It gets the job done, but it's not something I'll remember after finishing the game. One thing I appreciated was that the game doesn't waste your time. It knows it's an arcade-style experience and focuses on delivering quick action rather than pretending to be a massive space simulator. Unfortunately, that also means there's limited depth beneath the surface. Overall, Asteroid Bounty Hunter is a decent budget space shooter that offers some enjoyable moments, especially if you like upgrading ships and casually blasting things in space. However, the repetitive mission structure and lack of long-term variety keep it from becoming something truly memorable. It's fun enough while it lasts, but it's hard to see most players sticking with it for the long haul.
The Good:
- Simple and accessible arcade space combat - Satisfying ship progression and upgrades - Easy to jump into for short gaming sessions
The Bad:
- Mission variety becomes repetitive quickly - Limited gameplay depth - Audio and presentation are fairly forgettable
Ratings:
Overall: 6/10 Visual: 6/10 Gameplay: 6/10 Story: 4/10 Audio: 5/10 Playability: 7/10
It's clear that some effort was put into the comics, but the game is so so so super basic.
My insurance company officially blocked my number after the third asteroid incident, BUT BUT BUT my pilot's life is worth less than a handful of space-ore AHAHAHhahahaha. I’ve spent more money on ship repairs than I’ve actually earned, but at least the explosions are cheaper than therapy. WASTE OF MONEY
My favorite genre is shoot'em up, but I have mixed feelings about it. I can't say that I haven't played it much, but I haven't played it a lot either. At least my Japanese friends love this genre and can spend hours playing it, but I still haven't gotten used to it
This game has had problems with controllers for years, with no fix forthcoming. Sometimes it won't let you choose options on screen, and you'll have to use mouse & keyboard. Sometimes it won't detect your controller when starting up a new level, and it's about 50/50 as to whether it'll start doing so after a few seconds or not. Also, for whatever reason, the mouse controls are super floaty. When the controller works, your ship moves responsively like it should. But when using the mouse, your ship will move slower and lag behind your mouse movements a bit. It doesn't even make sense.
