Better story than Homeworld 3. Quite an enjoyable space saga VN with some turn-based tactical space battles. The story is a good read with decent length and an interesting plot, and likeable characters too. Pacing is decent, but there are certain plot points dropped towards the end, not anything major, but some backstory related beats don't get resolved, but the main plot resolves nicely. Combat is decent and some missions require some strategy, from hit and run with fighters, kiting and delaying, and bum-rushing a flagship. I would say combat is decent, if not too deep, and some abilities like the tractor beam are useless. Overall, a good game from a small team. Inexperience shows and it certainly could have been expanded, but this was an enjoyable experience. Wish the dev good luck and hope they will do more with the world they created.
very enjoyable porn visual novel and the tile based combat is alway's fun with these space opera horny novels
분명 인게임 설정에는 음성 볼륨이 있으나 음성이 나오지 않음
come for the hentai stayed for the plot 10/10. this game really drags you into the story and makes the "fun times" so so much more worth it you get to connect with the girls first and honestly had me tearing up at a few parts. update: now 22 hours in and i gotta say im in love with this game i hope they make more like it
Normally, I am not someone who enjoys VNs. They often feel too static, not interesting enough, or just a more expensive book. As a sci-fi enjoyer, this one caught my eye, though. It feels similar to games like Sunrider , while taking the setting from Mass Effect or Starsector . The art is varied in style but fantastic all around, and the (very well fleshed out) battle system is something to spice up the experience. Actual gameplay in a VN always makes you feel like you're dreaming. The actual writing itself has great intention behind it, though the English is a bit sub-par. The scenes are great, and develop naturally, rather than being a quick, unmemorable moment. AoW is a game mostly focused on the story and its' characters, including their relationship with you. Despite being mostly Kinetic, your choices have a surprising affect on scenes, allowing you to choose to have a harem, or focus on just one girl. The gallery doesn't let you access dialogue, but still lets you access non-H and H-scenes alike. You will get ~8 hours of content if you go through it at a faster pace, which is especially nice if you want to try two different routes. It needed just a little bit work to become a true gem, but unfortunately didn't have the budget nor the time to get there. It is truly and unforgettable story; must recommend.
Pretty good. Spent nearly a day playing total and enjoyed the characters well enough to wish I bought it full price.
i'm relatively new to playing visual novels but i was genuinely invested in the story and the characters you are surrounded by and meet were written very well. i hope to see more work from this developer!
Story is good, writing is good, visuals are nice. I liked that secondary characters have their own life and motivations. Battle system is not nearly as advanced as in Sunrider, and implementation of purchase system is a bit strange (underdeveloped?). So it's primary an AVN, with a little bit of space battle tactics. Hope it will have some continuation / DLC.
Ashes of War, developed and published by CAT'S TOOTH STUDIO, is a science fiction visual novel that combines military drama, romance, and futuristic adventure into a story that emphasizes its characters as much as its larger conflict. The game takes place in a galaxy consumed by a century-long war between the Union and the Kingdoms, where the protagonist, captain of the Dawn of Defiance, chooses to break away from an endless cycle of violence in pursuit of a different future. This decision becomes the foundation for a narrative centered on freedom, loyalty, and the bonds formed between a diverse crew trying to survive while forging their own path. Rather than focusing solely on battles and political intrigue, the story places equal importance on emotional connections, making the experience feel personal despite its grand interstellar setting. The narrative is the game's greatest strength, offering a lengthy and character-focused experience that steadily develops both its world and its cast. Each of the four main heroines has her own personality, motivations, and relationship with the protagonist, allowing the story to explore romance alongside themes of sacrifice, trust, and hope. The futuristic backdrop gives the visual novel a refreshing identity, featuring advanced technology, spacefaring vessels, and competing factions that add depth to the setting without overwhelming the more intimate moments. The dialogue balances lighthearted conversations with dramatic developments, ensuring that the emotional highs and lows feel earned as the journey unfolds. Visually, Ashes of War delivers an appealing presentation that blends beautifully illustrated character artwork with three-dimensional cinematic scenes during major action sequences. This combination helps distinguish pivotal moments while maintaining the traditional visual novel format that fans of the genre expect. Character designs are expressive and memorable, while the futuristic environments reinforce the atmosphere of a galaxy shaped by prolonged warfare. Although the production values reflect its independent origins, the artistic direction consistently supports the storytelling, giving important scenes greater emotional impact through detailed CG illustrations and dynamic presentation. Gameplay remains accessible throughout, as the experience is designed primarily for readers who want to immerse themselves in the story instead of navigating complicated mechanics. Ashes of War follows a mostly kinetic structure, placing greater emphasis on narrative progression than on branching choices or strategic gameplay systems. This approach creates a smooth pacing that keeps players engaged with the unfolding drama while allowing the relationships and world-building to remain at the forefront. Those expecting extensive decision-making or tactical gameplay may find the interactivity somewhat limited, but players who appreciate story-driven visual novels will likely enjoy its straightforward design. The mature content is another defining aspect of the game. It includes explicit sexual scenes, nudity, and violent imagery intended for adult audiences. Rather than feeling disconnected from the plot, these scenes are integrated into the evolving relationships between the characters and help reinforce the romantic elements that run throughout the story. While the adult content will naturally appeal to players who enjoy mature visual novels, it never completely overshadows the broader narrative about resisting fate, finding companionship, and escaping the burdens of war. Ashes of War succeeds by staying committed to its strengths instead of attempting to become something it is not. It presents an engaging blend of romance, science fiction, and military storytelling supported by attractive artwork, memorable characters, and a well-realized futuristic universe. Its mostly linear progression may reduce replay value for players seeking multiple dramatically different outcomes, and those looking for deeper gameplay systems may wish for more interactivity. Nevertheless, the game's compelling cast, emotional storytelling, and distinctive setting make it a worthwhile experience for fans of narrative-focused visual novels. It offers a satisfying journey that values character development and atmosphere above spectacle, resulting in a memorable adventure that stands out within its genre. Rating: 8/10
