Dear Steam Support Team, I am requesting a refund for Ashes of Creation due to extraordinary circumstances related to the sudden collapse of the developer, Intrepid Studios, as of February 1, 2026. This is not a standard refund request based on gameplay preference or dissatisfaction, but a report of a broken promise and an effectively abandoned Early Access product. Reason for this request: Studio Closure It has been widely reported that Intrepid Studios has ceased operations. Senior leadership has resigned, and the development team has been laid off, with WARN Act notices issued. Abandoned Early Access Product Ashes of Creation was sold as an Early Access title with the explicit promise of continued development and future delivery of core features. With the studio dissolving, development has permanently halted, and the advertised product will never be completed. Loss of Product Viability Without an active development team, the game’s servers are expected to shut down or become non-functional, rendering the product completely unplayable. I respectfully ask Valve to treat this case similarly to previous precedents, such as The Day Before, where refunds were issued due to studio closure and false or unfulfilled advertising shortly after release. Given these circumstances, I request a manual review of this purchase, as the product is now effectively defunct and no longer deliverable as sold. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Please refund! I've played for 2 hours and then the dev's decided to run with the money. INSANE this is still on steam.

Stole my money
I don't write reviews often, but Ashes of Creation deserves one — even though you can no longer play it or buy it. In fact, that's exactly why I'm writing this. A game this good shouldn't just quietly disappear without someone saying what it actually was. Let me start with this: the time I spent in this world gave me some of the most genuinely exciting and fulfilling moments I've had in an MMO in years. That needs to be said clearly before anything else, because what happened to this game doesn't erase what it was while it lasted. The World The landscape in Ashes of Creation wasn't just pretty — it felt alive and reactive in a way most MMOs never attempt. The node system meant the world around you was never static; a quiet field could become a bustling town, and a thriving city could crumble back to wilderness depending on what players actually did. Exploring wasn't just about checking off zones on a map, it was about watching a living, breathing setting shift under your feet. Few games have made me want to simply stop and take in a vista the way this one did. Combat The action-based combat with reactive skill trees felt weighty and deliberate in a genre that too often settles for tab-targeting and rotation-spam. Fights against other players and against the environment both demanded actual positioning and timing, not just gear checks. It was the rare MMO combat system that stayed engaging dozens of hours in rather than fading into muscle memory. Classes The class/archetype system was ambitious in the best way. Layering secondary classes onto your primary archetype meant your build actually felt like yours — not a preset someone else designed for you. Watching my character evolve into a hybrid nobody else had quite replicated was one of the most satisfying character-building experiences I've had in this genre. Farming, Gathering, and the Grind Here's the part that surprised me most: the grind was actually fun. Farming, gathering, and crafting weren't just busywork bolted onto the side of the game — they tied directly into the node and economy systems, so every hour spent gathering mats felt like it mattered to something bigger than my own inventory. I haven't said "the grind was fun" about an MMO in a long time, and I mean it here. The Elephant in the Room I won't pretend the ending doesn't sting. This game never reached full release, and that's a real loss — not just for me, but for the genre. MMOs like this don't come around often, and watching the project falter after everything it got right is genuinely heartbreaking. I won't sugarcoat that disappointment. But I also won't let that erase what I experienced. For the time I played it, Ashes of Creation stood shoulder to shoulder with — and in some ways surpassed — some of the best MMOs ever made. This review exists precisely because you can't go try it yourself anymore. Someone has to say it was amazing while it was here, so it isn't just remembered as a failure. It deserves better than that, and so does anyone who happens to read this looking for the truth about what this game actually was. Verdict If you're wondering whether the journey was worth it despite how things ended: yes. Unquestionably yes. This was a special game, cut short before its time, and one that earned every bit of the praise I'm giving it here. I'm grateful for the moments I got with it, and I'll always wonder what could have been.
