m like open strategy, so the game isn't open at all. Its predictable and you dance on the tune of the game. A little boring but the image are catchy. if so predictable that in the begin you can guess the end. Just scoop this one for casual game sessions.
Generally I think I could like this game - but for some reason, which is really annoying, cloud save doesn't seem to work correctly. Since I've purchased this game to play it on a cloud gaming service - all my progress and each save game are gone after ending a session. Which basically makes it completely unplayable in this case. Very unfortunate. I hope this somehow can be fixed.
Short Version: I feel this game is in my "hidden gem" category. If you come from the first game, besides the art style and the story, nothing is similar to the prequel (That's for the best in my opinion). It's a really fun deckbuilding/puzzle game with some strategy elements sprinkled on. Decent story and characters, the gameplay is the strongest feature here. Definitely gets my recommendation and its really worth your attention to buy and support it if you are into this niche genre. Long Version: This game came to my attention after having the first one in my library for too long and finally decided to give it a shot. The similarities with the Banner Saga in the first one were kind of pushing me away. I actually really like that this one diverged into a completely different genre without being too different from the first one "vibe" wise. While i enjoyed the story in the first one, this sequel feels more like it's there to justify the tournaments. However, i'd really like it fleshed out to care more about this world and characters. To me it has a lot of potential, it just feels untapped yet in that department. You could for example, have battles during the story which play out like this, you put in special characters or other "rules" but it would be the driving force of the story (An invasion on berkanna) instead of the other way around. It fits the lore since they train their commanders with the way and you can get creative with scenarios. So yeah, huge potential here in my opinion. Now gameplay wise, i've seen some people complain for the swerves this game throws you mid battle and i think it's unfair because in essence this is not a game you play to finish in a couple of hours. You get into a battle, you reach the swerve and you lose. Alright, back to the drawing board. Change decks, strategy, pacing. The game gives you all of the tools to win every battle, it just needs patience. I've seen "difficulty spikes" in a lot of games, this AIN'T IT. It also gives you unique playstyles and actually manages to spice things up. As gamers we are trying to be efficient so we pick the deck we feel we are more comfortable and winning and basically grind until we get lucky. They try to break this by making some battles more efficient with specific decks and some damn near unplayable with one deck. That's a win for me. After finishing my first run, I wanted more. Which is not something I can say for many games. Music is cool, concept is engaging, just needs more impactful story and lore to really feel alive and it's own thing. Oh, please keep using this art style. i f**** love it. Cheers!
