Should release a demo for this so people can find out it's hot garbage without having to put in for steam refund...
The grappling hook has a very weird drop to it that feels very unnatural and slow. Right from the beginning it's hard to even get started because you can barely reach the point in which you're supposed to grab to start ascending. Overall I wouldn't recommend The game as I had a hard time even getting 5 minutes in so I could leave a review.
Refund requested. How is it possible to screw up a concept this simple? Conceptually, this game is great. A simple, straightforward grappling game where you point your mouse at where you want the rope to go, then pull yourself up one ledge at a time. However, everything here is done wrong: The grapple is deliberately programmed to NOT shoot in the direction you're actually aiming, but rather off at an angle to it in order to simulate gravity, but this adds more frustration than realism or immersion, especially since gravity doesn't affect the player character in the same way: you can magically shoot straight up meters at a time. Also, the rope magically phases through ledges so that you can easily end up on the other side of the wall you hooked the grapple to, with the rope passing straight through the wall. And worst of all, the grapple can't be thrown while falling so one mistake and you're all the way back at the bottom. The music is utterly wrong for the genre. The sound effects are bugged, and go silent after a while. The game isn't programmed to support common-place monitor resolutions. This game is like a case study on bad programming.

Ascend The Well is a challenging platforming experience developed and published by EagleEye Games that centers on a deceptively simple objective: escape from the depths of a massive well by climbing to the top. Beneath this straightforward premise lies a game built around precision, patience, and determination. Every section of the ascent demands concentration, turning what initially appears to be a modest platformer into an intense test of skill where progress must be earned through careful execution rather than handed to the player. The game's primary strength comes from its commitment to pure platforming. There are no complicated progression systems, elaborate combat mechanics, or distracting side activities. Instead, the focus remains entirely on movement and navigation. Players must learn how to control their character effectively, judge distances accurately, and maintain composure while traversing increasingly dangerous obstacles. This streamlined design ensures that every challenge feels meaningful and that success is directly tied to player skill. One of the most engaging aspects of Ascend The Well is the constant sense of risk that accompanies every climb. The higher players progress, the greater the consequences of failure become. A poorly timed jump or a brief lapse in concentration can result in a significant fall, erasing hard-earned progress and forcing another attempt. This creates a unique emotional rhythm where moments of triumph feel genuinely rewarding because they are often preceded by multiple setbacks and lessons learned along the way. The level design consistently introduces new obstacles and movement challenges that prevent the experience from becoming repetitive. Each section of the well presents its own hazards, requiring players to adapt and refine their techniques. The game gradually raises the difficulty without abandoning its core principles, ensuring that players are always learning and improving. This steady escalation keeps the climb engaging and encourages players to push further despite the inevitable frustrations that come with failure. Atmosphere plays an important role in shaping the experience. The isolated setting of the well creates a feeling of solitude that complements the personal nature of the challenge. There are few distractions from the task at hand, allowing players to become fully immersed in the climb. The environment itself feels mysterious, and the desire to discover what awaits at the top provides a strong motivation to continue progressing through increasingly difficult sections. Visually, the game adopts a focused presentation that prioritizes clarity and functionality. The environments are designed to support the gameplay, ensuring that platforms, hazards, and routes remain readable even during more demanding sequences. While the visuals do not rely on extravagant effects, they effectively establish the mood and reinforce the sense of being trapped within a vast vertical structure. The minimalist approach works in the game's favor by keeping attention centered on the challenge itself. The audio design further enhances the atmosphere. Ambient sounds and subtle musical elements help maintain tension throughout the climb without becoming intrusive. The restrained soundtrack allows players to focus on the precision required by the platforming while still contributing to the overall sense of immersion. Moments of success and failure feel more impactful because the soundscape supports the emotional highs and lows of the journey. Ascend The Well is not a game designed for players seeking a casual or forgiving experience. Its challenge level can be demanding, and repeated failures are an expected part of the learning process. However, those who enjoy difficult platformers will likely appreciate the satisfaction that comes from mastering its mechanics and overcoming its obstacles. The game rewards perseverance, making every hard-earned advancement feel meaningful. What ultimately makes the experience memorable is its ability to create tension and excitement from a remarkably simple concept. The climb becomes more than just a physical journey upward; it becomes a test of patience, focus, and resilience. Every successful section conquered serves as proof of improvement, while every setback encourages players to refine their approach and try again. Ascend The Well succeeds as a focused and rewarding platformer that understands the appeal of challenging gameplay. Through its demanding level design, strong sense of progression, atmospheric presentation, and emphasis on player mastery, it delivers an experience that remains engaging throughout the entire climb. While its difficulty may not suit everyone, those willing to embrace the challenge will find a satisfying and memorable adventure waiting at the top. Rating: 5/10
Might be the worst game of all time. Strongly advise against playing it, but if you want to prove me right, I guess I can't stop you.
