RPG Maker strikes again! "As Crônicas de Mar Céu" is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. There's no English translation for the game, but that's ok. It turns out, the language of bad games is universal. Much as no game development took place when dragging and dropping stuff in RPG Maker to make this asset flip, no design happened either as the plot is a ripoff of a book called "The Chronicles of Sea and Sky", and while I couldn't find a book with that title in Portugese or English, if the plot and design for the game was stolen from a book, and that book isn't in the public domain, this is an eyewateringly bad case of copyright infringement, which is not only highly unethical, it's illegal, and in some places in the world that's a breach of criminal law that can carry heavy fines and even jail time. Let's give the "developer" here the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a public domain book or something... because this guy is in a lot of trouble if it isn't. You can't just take someone else's intellectual property and slap your own name on it. And you definitely can't do that for profit! The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the game all-time peak player count was only ONE player. That's right, only one person ever played this at a time. When I played this for the purposes of reviewing it, I equalled the peak player count for the game. OUCH. The only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? "As Crônicas de Mar Céu" is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. Gamers who want a good retro JRPG experience would be better off playing the originals, like Final Fantasy, Star Ocean or Chrono Trigger. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

Developer Response!
The developer has weighed in to inform everyone they didn't read the Developer Usage Rules for Steam "partners", or they deliberately ignored the part where Valve says:
Though it may be tempting, not every review needs to be responded to. A developer response will frequently draw more attention than the original statement, potentially turning a small issue into a much larger community discussion. It's also not a good idea to use this feature to refute customer opinions. Your direct attention can be seen as validation or a defensive attempt to silence your customers.
The developer drops a bombshell... the reason I couldn't find the book this was based on is because it's just a garbage high school anime club dropout fanfiction the developer wrote. I wouldn't be surprised if he wrote himself in as the main character, romancing all his waifus or whatever weebs do nowadays. That certainly explains a lot (and the developer has no angle to complain about this because I did provide the benefit of the doubt). But frankly, the developer making an RPG Maker asset flip fan fiction about his own fanfiction that never got published is worse. It's downright embarrassing. Likewise the developer acknowledges what I already noted in my review... it's not in English. I also pointed out that's not the problem with it, the problem is that it's a garbage RPG Maker fanfiction. The developer also acknowledges RPG Maker is not intended to be used as a substitute for professional game development, but he went ahead and did so anyway, even though from his own admission, it's wrong. It's just pollution that nobody likes, that gives indie devs a bad name. Remember, this is not just my "opinion", it's objective fact. SteamDB peak player count: 1. Probably the "developer"'s therapist. I also clearly pointed out this is significantly worse than the 11,000+ free games on Steam, yet the developer, knowing it's bad for everyone to dump RPG Maker games onto Steam and attempt to use construction kits and other people's assets because they don't know how to make games properly, did so anyway, and they did so for profit. If you think about it, is that really okay? What does this do to benefit gamers? The answer, obviously, is nothing at all. Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this RPG Maker asset flip to anyone.
