I did not enjoy playing Armortale. My main complaint is that your avatar controls so poorly - especially his painfully slow walking speed. Generally I like playing games where you switch from one form to another (for instance Hue and Schein), but the implementation of this game mechanic here was subpar. The default fastkey to switch armor feels very awkward to me, there is however another option in the settings menu for the armor fastkey which makes a bit more sense. The levels are nearly completely linear and there appear not to be any secrets. The boss fights are too easy and uninspired. The gameworld is colorful, some of the characters look cute, and the soundtrack is up-beat, but this was not enough to make up for the flaws. In all, I got bored and annoyed rather quickly.
I was a fan of Little Samson for the NES, which if you are familiar with the game, this 100% borrows strongly from. Little Samson was an action platformer with a party swap mechanic and each member had their own unique abilities. You had a main character that could climb walls and ceilings, a dragon that could breath fireballs and fly/float, a golem that while slow could walk on harmful spikes, and a mouse that dropped OP bombs for some reason. Each character had their own health bar and could swapped during the level depending on the challenge, as long as they remained alive. Armor tale is that game, except instead of swapping parties, you are swapping armor that gives you very similar abilities. I was able to collect the hunter armor, which makes you fast and can stick to ceilings, the bomb armor, which kicks bombs, and the golem armor, which protects you from Instant KILL spikes. I would assume the fourth armor is a dragon or flying armor, but I didn't get far enough to collect it. I just rage quit the Hedgehogs level and likely will not go back to this game anytime soon. It was specifically this level due to a mechanic that if you fell into a pit area, you were taken to a fairly long spike filled alternate area where you had to make it to the end, only to be warped back to the beginning of the pit area. Unfortunately this pit area extends much farther than one would even think, and if you still fall , which is easy as there are several flying enemies and projectiles with very significant knock back, you will enter the pit again and when you return, you are sent back to the starting area. It was difficult, not in the challenging way, but in the frustrating way. And i get that retro games and NES games could be difficult, but this was in ways that was not enjoyable. Because it didn't feel like a challenge to overcome, but felt tedious and made me feel if this is here, what other type of BS is ahead. Again, I really wanted to like this game and it was very nostalgic as it looks and plays very similar to Little Samson. But it does miss the mark for me. Also, i'm sure it's a matter of taste, but the music isn't memorable either. It does it's job, but doesn't stick with you.
A cute little indie platformer with a lot of heart!
Pros

Pleasant 8-bit art style.
Character movement feels really good.
Level design is interesting, with some branching paths.
Surprisingly challenging, but nothing ridiculous (that I've seen)

Cons

Default menu controls confused me a bit.
Armor switching mechanic can be a little tedious, but thankfully there is a quick armor select hotkey.
Boss fights could use some more complexity.
Enjoy it so far !! Great plateformer, at a great price! Love indie game like this !! :D
I love the retro look. Unique gameplay with changing armour powers on the spot. It can be challenging in the most unexpected places. Overall a really good indie game. Good job!
Cool 2D oldschool plateformer. Defintely a nice Megaman vibe plus the fact that it encourages the player to quick switch between the different weapons/armors. I haven't finished it yet but defintely :)
This game friggin rocks. Although I feel it goes a tad bit too overboard on the last level in difficulty. I like how time stops when you quickswap your armor, letting you decide what to use on the fly without too much risk. Although when you try to "speedrun" levels, I just wish it stopped the timer during swapping as well. Sometimes swapping super fast doesn't work because you have to input directions after opening the quickswap, it won't detect if you hit the direction slightly too early. This was a pretty fun platformer overall with fun movement and lots of abilities. Often the levels are kind of like little puzzles in figuring out what is the best armor to use at every part of it. Anyway 90% of the levels are really fun in design. I just don't like the sailboat level, mainly the timed version of it. It's such a drag having to wait for the sailboat only to die to the boss. Contrary to what a lot of people said I really like the lava level. You can zoom through it when you know what to do and it feels really fluid.
