I really wanted to like Archmage Rises. The premise is something I've been hunting for for a long time. But the execution? It just didnt land. The game feels like 3 or 4 completely separate systems stapled together with no consideration for cohesion
It's a lot of fun. For me, anyway.
This game needs a LOT of more work before I could consider recommending it but I may revisit it after it has received more updates.
Main Quest told me i had to visit this city, turned out it was on an island so i rented a boat. Sailed there, entered the city, it was night so i slept in an inn. Come morning some messagge popped up about boat leaving, but captain gave me an item to summon the boat back. Item does not work. So now im stuck on a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ little island (6 hexes), with a city that does not have docks. No way to purchase another boat or any other way out of the island. 6 hours of gameplay gone. Until ♥♥♥♥ like this gets fixed, Avoid this game!
Good
Not worth a purchase IMO. Should be a free to play beta. Good ideas but based of history of development I'm not sure it will ever get finished.
Fantastic game. It's actually innovative, which is so rare to find. Really hoping the developer can figure out a way to monetize this properly and get it finished.
Really fun game! I mean it's still early access, but it's fun to play now. You can see where there's work being done and room for more events and such, combat to be a little more balanced and tweaked, but this is a really fun game. There's already more choices and room for independent decisions than most games you see IMO. I can't wait to see as more milestones are hit from the roadmap, and I can't imagine getting more value for my $15 or so. When the DLCs come out, if the Dev has delivered like they promised, I'll be happy to shell out another $20 or so for more content.
Its a bit buggy once I finally managed to learn how to not die ( I like difficult games and permadeath ) I managed to progress the story and it just went black screen and there was no way to do anything except reload... and this kept happening. Anytime you interact with something that might lead to a black freeze. But just save it right there and reload and you can *usually keep going.
I got my money's worth. However, the UI is brutal especially overland movement. The other issue is there is a big bug with the conversation option "Tell me more about...."
