Arcade Paradise

I'm kinda mixed on this one. I feel like this game needs more polish. I found a few bugs while playing, some of the game systems get annoying, like waiting 4-5 seconds after throwing the trash for it to let you go, the trash always showing up in the center of the screen blocking your view, etc. Its kinda neat, but eventually just becomes a chore to play. The mini games are cute though.

Would I recommend this game at its full price? Yes and no. If you are looking for a pure arcade simulator then this probably isn't for you, since most of your time will be spent earning money by running a laundromat. This is really the story of a young man's struggle between his father's expectations and his passion to build his own video game arcade. If you are ready to grind your way from the bottom up to achieve your dreams then this is certainly worth every cent. I was surprised to find that this game is more of a narrative about life and ambitions rather than just hosting and servicing arcade machines, but by the end of the story, and a lot of gaming, you will have a retro arcade paradise that you can truly call your own.

From the screenshots this game does look fun and nostalgic but it is boring. You have nothing to do whilst you are waiting for wash loads and dry loads to finish and it is very slow paced. You can play the arcades whilst waiting for the washing and drying to finish but I thought the purpose of the game was to run a arcade and laundromat. It's sad to say but I do not recommend this game.

I like this game. It's definitely quirky, but it has such an 80's vibe. Building the arcade is fun and the games are surprisingly entertaining, which is really where you want to spend all your time. But, the laundry. That laundry can be irritating if you're trying to make money on those S-class loads. There is a way, though, that you can make money on the laundry, while spending the majority of your day playing video games...which, as an 80's kid, you definitely want to do.

Es un título entretenido que, aunque puede resultar un poco lento al principio, es parte de su propio encanto. La experiencia es desafiante en algunos momentos y los juegos de las máquinas son muy divertidos, imitando a la perfección los grandes éxitos de la época y actuales (me encantó el guiño a la leyenda urbana de Polybius). Sin duda, es un juego ideal para jugar tranquilo, sin prisas y disfrutando del proceso de progresión.

My father introduced me to this game. It was weird to see him playing anything other than Battlefield or Destiny 2, so I knew that this little indie game had something special. I was right, this little arcade tycoon hit every spot of my brain for satisfaction, aesthetics, and nostalgia. The retro-style graphics are awesome, the progression throughout the story is engaging and addicting, and of course, there are tons of stand alone arcade games that YOU can play as well. Each of the arcade machines are worth a try too, having their little gimmicks that will either make you cry or yearn for more. The achievements are fun to hunt for as well, despite that I haven’t collected them all yet. The way that they developed a concept of turning a dry cleaning shop into an arcade enterprise was very enjoyable, especially since in the beginning you still had to run the cleaners to make money and keep business running for your father. It’s the perfect description for time management. Now although there is an “ending” to this game, that shouldn’t stop you from playing. There are still achievements to collect, highscores to beat, and money to make (even though the money is useless after a while). During your playthrough, it’s important to check your arcade machines for roaches, take out the trash in a basketball-style way, and unclog the bathroom. Maintaining the cleanliness of your shop is part of the game, which I always appreciated. Now, this game came out in 2022, and shortly after its release, nothing really came about the game. No updates, major DLCs (besides a few new arcades), anything that could continue your playthrough, which made it bland. I mean, you can start a new save file and play again, but it most likely won’t be different to that of your first playthrough. They released a VR port which I would love to try, but I wish they would come out with a second one or something. Regardless, it is an excellent game with excellent graphics, gameplay, and plot. I'm writing this out of spite. Going to state one thing before I go on a venom-laced rant, This isn't a bad game. There's a frame to make something great out of this. That's the most painful thing about it. I don't want to keep this negative but by god it has to be that way for now. This game finds ways to remove the fun and I mean that. It finds unique and creative ways to take any joy out of the experience. Then to add insult to injury it's absolutely packed with irritations. Irritations and annoyances that could easily be patched. 1) Crouching. The game introduces the concept of crouching with ctrl to empty arcade game hoppers. Wonderful concept, broken though. Absolutely broken. Why? The game doesn't recognize it. It only checks the camera. 9/10 times if you're camera is CENTERED on anything BUT the hopper it instantly pushes you towards the game thinking you want to play it. I can't stress how this can cause you to scream at your monitor when you have approximately 5 minutes to empty the hoppers before closing. 2) Laundry. The game starts as a laundromat that you convert to an arcade. FUN, except it's not. It's a colossal slog. You start with a gigantic laundry and a small arcade that slowly throughout the course of the flips to a large arcade and a tiny laundry. Guess where the issue is there? The game doesn't slow down with laundry. In fact it adds more. It adds more and more until you find yourself with a mountain of laundry and a handful of machines to deal with it. That means SLOWLY filling up the washer, then after the washer ends slowly emptying it out of the washer then into the dryer. If you're one NANOSECOND late one either process the game punishes you with a lesser rank and less money. This simple problem cascades and becomes one of the biggest pains in the ass this game offers. It's not the biggest one though. 3) Todo list. To unlock upgrades you need to do things on a daily todo list. Some of them are manageable like win a round in a particular game. Or get a certain score. That's fine. Then occassionally...as in DAILY you'll find a GRIND. Play a game for five minutes...no not five minutes in game time. Five ACTUAL minutes. Which is a large portion of the day, several hours of game time in fact. It's always on the absolute WORST knockoff games in the arcade too. I found one demanding I play R.O.G.E.R for ten minutes. I don't want to play R.O.G.E.R for ten seconds let alone ten minutes. Even with that it's not the worst irritant in this game. 4) That honor goes to the watch! The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WRIST WATCH. Who thought this was a good idea? Did anyone playtest this? Clearly someone noticed this was a problem as there's an upgrade (which is one of the most expensive in game) to remove it. Well what could be the problem with a wrist watch you might ask? Simple answer. Do you have laundry that's done washing? Done drying? Is the toilet backed up? Is an arcade machine broken? Don't worry the game will notify you. How? By the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MORON PROTAG SWINGING THE WATCH WITH A NOTIFICATION TO COVER HALF THE SCREEN TO SHOW YOU! Well how could that be a problem? It blocks half your vision, which can easily lead to losing whatever game you're trying to play in the arcade. I had five loads of laundry finished, moron decides to swing her wrist watch to warn me FIVE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TIMES causing me to lose a very tense game of vector attack that the game mandated I played. Why is that watch even here? Isn't this game in the 80s? Watches with built in notifications like that. That's a smart watch. That's not even period correct. For the love of god GET THAT WATCH OUT OF MY FACE. Just patch it out. I will HAPPILY change this review if you can do half of what I'm throwing a fit about above. I want to like this game, there's good aspects to it. It's a unique premise. So for the love of everything holy LET ME. Stop throwing these irritations in our faces. Well finished the game, and you finally get a chance to enjoy the arcade without the laundry. Its' a rather heartwarming ending and story. The watch stops becoming a major problem too. This game is so close. Really it has great moments and the little emails you get from various patrons challenging you to beat their high scores really does a lot to make want to recommend this game. It's just the above. I had a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nightmare with this game, I really did. There's pockets of joy in a tormented sea of absolute pain. It makes sense why the developers went in the direction they did. Just there had to be a better way to go about it.
