Waste of time that was falsely advertised as a working game. Wish I could refund. While it is possible to start playing the game without issue, you will soon find that you require the PDA to keep up with your daily tasks. And guess what? It is impossible to bring it up which is a commonly reported issue. When asked, the developer pretty much said, "I dunno, guess there weren't enough buttons for it." I do not believe they have an intention of patching this to make it a truly functional product. Like imagine if you couldn't reload on Halo and Bungie was like, "Welp, we just ran out of buttons, sorry for the money you wasted." That's how dumb this is. Like this is something that could be addressed with a button combo. People gave Cyberpunk 2077 sh*t but at least you could access the freaking objectives at launch. This is all a shame because I finished the original flat game and it was legitimately good. Too bad they blew it this time. Normally with a negative review I'd say to wait until a discount for a game that still has significant redeeming qualities. But in this case I cannot recommend it at all because a key function is missing. If you're interested I suggest coming back in a few months and seeing if they've finally done something about their ridiculous oversight.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 3
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/mflV1XVmN1U This really isn't a bad game at all. It's nice for what it is. However, after playing it for over 2 hours, it also feels like a huge missed opportunity for a much better game. My main problem with the game is that it's just too basic. The VR interactions should have been more immersive. Some of them are. Most of them aren't though. You pick up trash by pointing and clicking grab and the it automatically goes into a trash bag you never see until it's full. Then you "toss" into the garbage bin basketball style, but with no challenge whatsoever. It's better to miss than to make a "basket" from further away than the S area (because you can try again if you miss). You start off the game by picking up trash, tossing the trash, cleaning the toilet, & doing laundry (wash & dry). Those are not really fun mini-games. There's also some very simple light management stuff. You get to pick what arcade cabinets you have from a small list. You get to upgrade some skills (such as a better trash bag) by completing daily tasks. You get some story via clicking through texts & e-mails on an old looking PC. The cool part is the arcade cabinets. There's a light gun arcade game where you grab a light gun and shoot at targets. Awesome, that's exactly the type of VR interaction I want to see. You also eventually unlock an air hockey game where you move the blocker and use motion controls to hit the ball. Great! However, you start off with an arcade version of the same type of game where you move the blocker with the joystick on your motion controller and it's just not tuned correctly. Most of the arcade games are controlled with your joystick / face buttons. Not really immersive. Most of the arcade games seem to be meme worthy. A few of them are fun to play. Game is running on the Unity Engine. Got 90 fps on my RTX 3080 with only a few drops here and there. You have full locomotion along with smooth or snap turning available. You can play comfortably seated. I didn't run into any major bugs, just a few annoying ones like your hand getting stuck on the lid of the washing machine or dryer. This game honestly feels like a port of a non-VR game, which is exactly what it is. Unfortunately, not enough went into it to make the VR experience really stand out. Parts of it are cool. Most of it isn't though. Rate 6/10. More effort should have been put into making the VR interactions interesting for each game / mini-game.
If you enjoyed my review, please consider joining my Steam Curator group Oculus Rift Reviews.
At the current moment I can't recommend Arcade Paradise VR. While the original game is absolutely phenomenal, the VR version of the game doesn't boast a lot in regards to playing VR. Sure, there's a few games that offer up VR capabiltiies, but otherwise you'll be playing the other cabinets as normal, but only staring at the screen in VR. I also found navigating through the options menus rather difficult (accidentally hitting things on and off due to the clunky controls). Cutscenes were also oddly in a tiny window as opposed to full resolution.
I've decided to refund until further updates are released. Having comfort options forced at the start of the game completely kills the vibe. The graphics looked good but could be better by PC standards and I just believe there's a lack of VR immersion, more like a point and click with some added VR controls. The laundry portion was great and felt immersive, the trash pick up seemed pointless as you could pick up a piece and toss it over your shoulder and it somehow disappears into an empty cart in the corner and once full a bag magically appears outside by the dumpster. The starter cabinets in the back were alright but air hockey was broken as my paddle was moving at light speed and when I tried to hit the ball the ball would just stop. I did have some fun so I won't say it's bad, just not what I'm looking for.
As a fan of the original Arcade Paradise, I had high expectations, but this VR version is an absolute disappointment—a patched-together mess that should've been scrapped. Sadly, they cut a lot of corners compared to the original release: the controls are clunky, the graphics are outdated, and the whole game feels rushed and unfinished. Getting it to work was a nightmare, with countless bugs and glitches that ruin any potential fun. Save yourself the frustration and steer clear of this disaster. I wish I'd listened to the other reviews.
I've requested refund because I'm unable to configure and remove TUNEL Effect. I couldn't even OPEN my PDA or remap buttons. The lack of configuration options made me very disappointed. I love Arcade Paradise and was very excited to play it in VR.
nothing but problems. Start off from what might as well be laying down on the floor at the main menu. once loaded in your at the correct height but try moving and your instantly losing 60% of your vision to tunnelling effect, trying to turn that off with the giant hands your person has is frustrating to the point I nearly gave up at that point. the windows to the laundromat are just a black walls there is no transparency so you cant tell if its getting darker or not (not that i could bare playing the game long enough to find out). First wash load, this was a horrible experience. Picked up the basket and the giant hand that was not grabbing it got stuck to it and i couldn't move it out of the way of the basket. Trying to open the machine doors and it was constantly getting stuck and once you get it open and try moving the hand away and because they are so big you slap the door closed. Now for the trash task from something that you would expect to be able to just quickly go round and throw the trash around to collect (stupid i know) you end up stuck there staring at the trash waving your hand about like your trying to cast a spell for a few seconds while you wait for it to allow you to pick it up. When going into the back room you have 3 machines already out the back stacked with cash but you instantly notice the bad scaling of the machines to your persons giant hands. I gave up and refunded the game after trying to up the safe the giant hands get in the way and no matter how many times you put in the correct code the safe just would not open. So with all the negative game play I had enough and gave up and refunded the game and i may buy it again in a few years once they have had chance to fix this mess. Now for the only positives that I could find with the game, Movement nice and smooth, the graphics was good and there was not any lag spikes. Apart from those 3 positives I would avoid the game for a while till they sort it out (if they do).
Does not work with HTC Vive? Played Arcade Paradise Non-VR, fun stuff. Still waiting for Arcade Paradise VR, sure its out but Does not work with the HTC Vive, what up with that? Would be great to have Arcade Paradise VR work with HTC Vive, if not, it looks as if a Meta Quest is a future purchase. Kinda sucks though, having to purchase another VR Headset. It is no surprise, it's typical in that life has come to "You gotta Pay to Play" draining peoples pocket books anyway it can, and by excluding HTC Vive, it makes it seem like a push to purchase the Meta Quest, or Index, passing the bucks among Corporate buddies instead of including all VR headsets. Maybe HTC Vive didn't want to pay to play with Arcade Paradise VR, who knows, other VR titles work on all VR Headsets, what up with that?
Great game. 4 hours in, still craving to play more. The game also surprisingly has some really good music. I now have over 20 hours of gameplay in this game under my belt. Still love it. It has it's quirks but overall it's extremely enjoyable. Ya'll are sleeping on this game. I haven't enjoyed a VR game this much in like 2 years. I'm nearing the end of the campaign but there are still TONS of achievements to try to get. :D
Exceeded my expectations, bindings and performance worked on day one out of box for me, which is not always a given with VR games even to this date. gameplay is good and parts tailored to pcvr although lighting can be improved. 8/10 so far
