No feature updates incoming, is neglected by the developers and lists a large list of features on the store page that don't work anymore.
Dropped Linux support without warning. Good cross platform support was the reason i bought it. MacOS seems to be also not supported very well if you follow the forum discussions. Time and money lost.
Unfortunately with development being turned over to the dwindling community to keep this afloat it will only be a matter of time before its discontinued, I cannot recommend this as I do a lot of android development and testing and with Google updating requirements every year to keep things moving a language that doesnt move with the times will get left behind pretty quickly. Even for desktop development AGK Studio isnt 100% supported on Linux and has been left behind on that platform as well which is a huge missed opportunity to be honest. I really liked to prototype and test in AGK Classic and Studio but now I am looking at Unity for development and creation of new titles due to the continued development is cutting edge and the updates keep coming. The only platform that gets the most updates of all the ones on AGK Studios list is the windows platform, if you want to release anything on android you have to do it through windows as the Linux platform's tools are severely out of date (2023 was the last update) and Google has moved on since and will not accept your compiled signed apps from that date. Its a shame that they couldnt make all platforms equal on AGK studio but now its reached the end of development all I can see is a steady decline of all the other targets until they no longer function as intended and the language ends up as a community pet project.
As someone with very limited knowledge in programming, no academic studies in math or computer science, my only real 'experience' was in Dark Basic Classic. Even so, i never went deeper than, say, arrays. Yet, with Dark Basic Classic i was able to create my own 3d world creator, 3d character animator and even some 3d games that were never good enough to publish, but fun enough for program and play and as a chalenge to see what i could accomplish with a little patience and some logic. And that is what got me into AGK and AGK Studio. The more i use AGK, the more i learn and the more i discover I CAN DO. In 2 days of work, i was able to create a small side-scroller mini-game with a space ship and some enemies and even a mothership coming my way. it is far from finish, but the fact i was able, with a minimum of knowledge, to do something that remind me of retro shooters like R-Type is pretty incredible... I have tried UNITY AND UNREAL AND GODOT. And although they claim to give you the ability to create games whitout much knowledge, i can tell you that, unless you are taking class in computer programming or have a massive amount of time on your hand, that will be nearly impossible. At one point or another, you will have to write your own code and doing that in C++ or C# and that, is tough. AGK scripting language is much more easier to understand.
I've been using AGK Classic for the last 3 years and it has been a great development engine. Although I have owned Studio for 3 years I only started to use it a few months ago. The Studio IDE now comes with a Visual Code extension which is really good. I have produced several games using AGK and I have found the language easy to learn and enjoy using it. This has been my one of the best software purchases I have ever made and I have probably used it for several hundred hours (I also own the TGC version so the hours shown on Steam are incorrect) I have read a few reviews saying that the Steam client is needed but if you run the IDE directly from the install folder the Steam client is not used.
The most straightforward programming language to create games and APP for Windows, Android, Ios, Mac that I have used in my 35 yrs as a software developer. Since I've been introduced to AppKamegit I don't use any other software for any of my educational Games. Worth spending the few $ and buy it. Support is great.
Love this, learning to get a hang of all the features
If you have ever used visual basic, you will find this a breeze to use. There are great tutorials on youtube and you will have a game together in no time.
Parfait pour coder des jeux en 2d en C++ (Tier 2). Très bonne documentation disponible sur leur site.
