If you play for 5 minutes, you've done everything. Basic as basic gets. 3 weapons, 3 enemies, 1 small map.
An excellent shm-up with a great deal of replayability. The combo system is reminiscent of the DMC franchise and the music lulls you into a chill deep-space environment.
The difficulty of the game is a little simple, the content is relatively boring. -------------------------------------------------- Manual achievement: 0/0
Apollon 88 cons: too few maps. sucks.
1 ship, 3 weapons, 1 level, 3 enemies, no upgrades, no powerups, no progression. I guess if you like bare-bones arcade shooters this fits the bill. I found it really boring. As of this writing you can move with a controller but not aim or shoot, which is somehow worse than no controller support at all.
Apollon 88 is a badly made 2D top down twin stick wave survival/kiting simulator shoot 'em up slapped together lazily with Unity. It looks like it was intended to be some kind of SpaceWar!/Asteroids ripoff, but the developer couldn't work out how to do gravity/inertia, so your ship is inertialess and you just move around with WASD and use your mouse to aim. On the upside, at least this isn't a direct Unity asset flip. Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. A choice was made to use obsolete retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. These flaws push this game far below minimum acceptable standards for PC. The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts.
