It's ok if you like puzzle platformers where you change gravity like in VVVVVV. Different stages, simple controls that works fine. Not the best and not the worst game in this category. Slight recommendation for platformer enthusiasts.
Alright. I have given Ant-gravity: Tiny's Adventure a look yesterday and today. I am happy to report that this is most likely a game that platformer enthusiasts will enjoy. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3186539016 I am personally not a big fan of the genre, but the developers made a point of highlighting its Steam Deck compatibility when they sent a license to my Robilar’s Reviews curator program, knowing my curator is Steam Deck centric. I know how difficult it is to get curators to actually play and review your game, so I wanted to give the game a fair run and see what I thought. It's definitely a game that honors the genre while providing a cool gameplay wrinkle that gives the game a lot more character. Long ago, I played a game called Four Sided Fantasy that had a variation of this mechanic, but in my limited experience with platformers, I haven't seen any other games that offer this. Which is the ability to manipulate gravity and turn the screen, to where the floor becomes a wall, a wall becomes a ceiling, a ceiling becomes the floor, etc... https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3185834517 This gameplay mechanic is central to solving puzzles in levels and completing each level, as well as avoiding hazards such as spikes and larger insects trying to eat you. I thought this was very cool. Each level is part of a World. After completing each of the levels in a world, you get to the World's boss level, which is basically an arena where you try to use the central gameplay mechanic to defeat the boss. There are several Worlds which you'll traverse on the way to completing the game. There are things you will interact with in different levels, such as switches, buttons, and crates. The first boss battle has you flipping the room around while trying to crush the boss (a mantis) with one such metal crate. Along your adventure, you will try to find all the candy in a level, including a special wrapped piece of candy. There are also candy canes which function as your checkpoint system. Which makes sense since you're an ant, lol. The graphics are very pleasant. Comfortable color palette, simple designs. It conveys a sense of childlike wonder and arcade style gaming. The OST and game sounds also make sense for the experience. I can confirm that this is completely Steam Deck compatible, and the controls were both intuitive and tight. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3186538931 And that's about it. As mentioned, platformers aren't really my own cup of tea, but this is definitely a quality game that won't frustrate you and offers a casual pick up and play experience. And, the price is highly accessible. Give it a go if you want a less complicated platformer you can play for a few minutes or a few hours at a time. A trilha sonora do jogo é fantástica.
Ant-gravity: Tiny's Adventure is a somewhat mediocre 2D retro platformer with a gravity rotation gimmick as you can rotate the game levels, which is a core part of the platformer puzzle solving you need to do. There's nothing remarkable about this ant-themed game. It "works", but doesn't shine in any respect, and is drowned up by the sheer number of 2D retro lazy platformers on Steam... literally thousands of them. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. While there are options to change the resolution for the game, all this does is scale up the simplistic 2D art assets used to make the game, which makes little or no difference to the graphics quality. Without any other substantial graphics tweaks, it's not possible for gamers to improve the lacklustre 2D visuals. The game features simple, cartoony 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort mobile apps. 3D graphics programming does require a degree of skill and competence and unfortunately not all developers have the budget or talent to deliver this, despite 3D graphics cards hitting the mainstream in the 1990's. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing. The controls and game handling are notably very floaty and imprecise. It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing or polish done. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this game was never accepted on the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. You don't have to take my word about how bad the game is, we can measure the interest in a game by how much people bothered to play it. Ant-gravity: Tiny's Adventure has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game absolutely failed to capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for finishing the first set of levels, trivial to achieve, but less than 2 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. That's a tiny, tiny proportion of gamers who even bothered with this. Ouch. Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a very healthy spike in player counts for the game. But this isn't consistent with the achievement stats, that show less than 2 percent of players bothered playing the game for any reasonable amount of time. How is it possible for this game to have so many concurrent players who weren't even playing the game? Trading cards. Players will use card idling software to collect the cards and sell them, but this won't trigger any achievements in-game. That tells us people only really bought this game for trading cards, and that's a damning indictment of the woeful quality. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards. Ant-gravity: Tiny's Adventure is relatively cheap at $2 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. It's not the worst, but it's not a winner, either, and there's no "maybe" option.
