About
This is an early prototype created by first-time student developers as part of an academic game design project. It is best understood as a demo rather than a fully polished game.
The experience takes place on a fictional college campus and explores uncomfortable, real-world scenarios related to identity, including race, gender, sexuality, and ableism. Through short interactive stories, players respond to challenging moments using different approaches (supportive, diplomatic, confrontational, or disengaged) and see how those choices shape conversations and relationships.
This version reflects students learning game design, narrative systems, and interactive storytelling for the first time. As such, it is rough around the edges, limited in scope, and experimental by design.
If you’re interested in student work, experimental design, or seeing how a larger idea begins, this demo offers a candid look at the early foundations of the Answer Campus universe.

i downloaded this game because i've been looking for more stuff that's free to play and has good queer representation, and was very disappointed when i played this. pretty much every day in the game, everyone gets into a heated argument and someone ends up being grossly disrespectful in general, or ends up being completely racist. im especially weirded out by the fact that in some situations, you are forced to take the racist's side. super weird. i agree that these conversations are important to have, like why its offensive to pull back your eyes, or why you shouldn't say the n word. but its the fact that you're given the option or sometimes forced to side with racism that's absolutely wack
For a game that has 20+ people listed as devs, they all couldn't wrack their brains together for some good story writing? Every bit of dialogue was almost passive aggressive, defensive and kinda boring. Lacked fun and personality badly. I just know this was made as a school/college project by people with no idea on what the real world is. Just Americanized diversity, anti-queer, anti-race stereotypical tropes. I know full well they watched Mean Girls as research because of that opening date and intro.. the only educational thing about this was learning how these characters are sensitive and insufferable.

I 1000% respect writing flawed characters, but when a character's flaws and entire personality are being racist all the time? Maybe you're not writing a character well is all I have to say. Everyone is a little racist, or ableist, or homophobic, or something else that makes this entire game viciously uncomfortable. Even your dialogue options can occasionally be a choice between "racist" or "downplaying racism". I just want to know why I guess. I am a college student, who has been around other college students, and a normal conversation is just not going to be that bigoted for absolutely no reason, so.
Answer Campus is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This is a godawfully badly written visual novel designed to "Educate" people on how the developers think you should treat other people, which weirdly involves being more racist than you should be, but what should we expect from people who think Steam is a great place to drop badly written E-books with bad takes on how exactly you should go around respecting people's rights and lifestyle choices. This is hamfisted to say the least, and whatever cause the author thought they were pushing, they've done more harm than good. Trying to address social issues through the medium of video games is misguided and can be harmful. While it's plausible to suggest the intention was noble, this can do more harm than good, as is the case here. Game developers (well, crappy E-book authors in this case) are not professionals in areas of mental health and social problems, and when they use video games to pretend they are, this almost always works against whatever goals they had. It's my opinion that it's improper to use video games to push political or social agendas. Apart from the harm such hamfisted attempts at addressing social problems can cause, this offers zero benefit to PC gamers. People suffering from health issues or other social problems, or who are victimised by bigotry or discrimination should seek out professional help rather than going to crap shovelware E-books by failed authors attempting to get famous by exploiting such problems for their own benefit, as is the case here. Let's talk more about how books aren't games. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 3 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 3 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games.
