About

In “Life of a Dispatch English Teacher in Japan,” you play as Maria Ramirez, an American working in Japan as an English teacher. It’s a rewarding, fun job, and you’re beloved by students and coworkers alike–until suddenly, one day you lose your job. You work for a dispatch English teaching company, and they lost their contract with your school, just one month before the end of the school year.
Out of nowhere, you must change the course of your life. You have a loving girlfriend to support you and other friends facing this alongside you, but ultimately you must make an extremely tough choice about your future.
This game is based on the real-life experiences of English teachers throughout Japan, on issues that tens of thousands of people endure every single year, and is designed to provide an up-close viewpoint of what the dispatch contract system does to the individuals impacted.

Live through real-life shock – You’re an English teacher in Japan, and suddenly, your life is turned upside-down. Experience the chaos of a last-second life meteor.
Make tough choices – End your relationship? Risk it all? There are no easy answers to how to face your future.
Exploration of underdiscussed issues – Tens of thousands of English teachers in Japan face the same problems every single year, and “Life of a Dispatch English Teacher in Japan” sheds light on these solvable issues to a mainstream audience.
A myriad of social issues – Job loss, foreign work visas, cross-country moves, same-sex marriage, adult loneliness–this game covers many different factors in a short time span.
Brisk story – Across all endings, the story runs about 6,000 words long, so a full playthrough should take thirty minutes or less.

A short but powerful game with one fateful choice. I definitely suggest trying every ending. Also, the graphics and interface are really smooth, and texts and emails are well-integrated. So it's easy to play...or...technically easy. There are no happy routes in this story.

important slice of a specific life. just one choice (which you can and should redo until you see all the endings) not nearly as impressive or funny as Love is in the Airship, but maybe as, if not more, important. keep making stuff. it makes the world a better place.
It's a short visual novel to raise awareness about the situation of foreign English teachers in Japan. Pros: - lovely MC (very relatable) - cool side charas - cute art - easy game system - relaxing music - 4 nice different endings Cons: - interesting story, but could develop more - in some parts, a lot of text without images Overall, I liked the VN. I think it achieved its intended purpose. Thank you so much for making this VN available for free! :)
Really good visual novel that exposes the difficulties of working as a foreign teacher in Japan. Just be warned, if you don't like bitter endings, this might not be for you.
I very important game that shows the challenges and difficulties of being a being a dispatch ALT in Japan. Life is a significantly less stable for dispatch employees than it is for direct hire ALTs.
Have you ever wanted to read a visual novel about foreign English teachers in Japan whining about their pay and treatment? If you can't afford Japan, go to Thailand or the Vietnam. The cost of living is much more reasonable and they are less discriminatory towards same sex couples. Most everyone seems to love Anime and praise Japan for it but no one ever seems to talk about the true horror that is the LDP.
