In A Nutshell
🔵 Pros + Original platforming mechanics. + Decent art direction. + Decent soundtracks. + Slightly above average duration for the genre (6-8 h). 🔴 Cons - Extremely clunky and unresponsive controls. - Unreliable jumping / grappling collisions detection. - Generally boring and slow level design. - A few bugs that can break levels. - Some puzzles are really frustrating because of how they are designed. - Dry, uninspired final level and ending. Another Sight is a fairly classical 2.5D platformer that tries to innovate by introducing a new, original mechanic: making the protagonist blind and only capable of orientating herself with sounds the environment produces. Always followed by her faithful companion, the cat Hodge, and our young heroine will have to combine their abilities to overcome puzzles and obstacles. The ability to swap control between the two characters is the central mechanic. Apart from this brand new, indeed original mechanic, good environments, and decent sound design / voice acting, there is little else that can make this game special or worth your attention. Level design is really nothing special, just very basic platforming with buttons to press, levers to pull, and the occasional object to move around or enemy to avoid. The main issue with the level design is it being very slow paced, and filled with backtracking, making it overall quite boring. The fact that collision detection on jumps / grapples is very unreliable, and also control responsiveness being really bad, worsen the situation a lot, creating often frustrating situations. Overall, I would suggest this game only to platforming fans that really like the genre, as it is barely sufficient overall, originality of story and mechanics do not overcome the problems. For everyone else, either get this on a heavy discount, or move along.
Liked this review, and want to see more of the same quality? While Kit will be able to use devices such as levers and elevators, or move heavier objects like crates or panels, Hodge will have a cat's grace to its side, enabling to move on narrow passageways, railings and pipes, accessing places otherwise impossible to reach. Some sections of the game slightly vary the gameplay, by adding enemies to avoid with stealth, and also using Hodge as a distraction, or also different kinds of puzzles to solve. The issue here is that most of these alternative types of puzzles are not really well thought out, resulting in frustration and annoyance towards their completion, some a lot more than others. There are secret collectibles, in the form of dark energy orbs, to collect around levels in order to unlock additional lore, such as level and character related documents, collected in a dedicated menu. Exploration is however very limited and "on rails" most of the time, leaving very little room for exploring the environments freely. 📖 Story This game puts up a fairly decent storyline, quite original and also featuring legendary characters of the past such as Nikola Tesla or the painter Monet, all entangled in a common story. With a narrative where the border between reality and fiction is increasingly thinner, one would expect also a great ending, that you won't get, as it resulted fairly stale and anticlimactic. 👊 Combat System There is no combat in this game. 💰 Content & Pricing With 20€ as regular price tag, for 6-8 hours of sufficient quality content, i'd suggest everyone but the most fanatic platform enthusiasts, to wait for a good sale before getting this game. 🔗 Balance & Challenge Challenge rating is quite low overall, with no particular mention to make.
Technical Analysis
🎥 Graphics Quite good environmental design and settings, but apart from this, the effects, textures and models look quite dated and do not hold up to 2018 standards. Do not expect a joy for the eyes, but rather a sufficiently pretty title and nothing more, especially considering this game is using Unreal Engine 4, but nowhere nearly uses the features this engine offers. The hand drawn cut-scenes have quite a good style. 🔊 Sound Good voice acting and narration, average sound effects. No special mentions to make. 🔩 Performance & Stability The game running on any resolution higher than 1080p will consume huge amounts of VRAM, this is to be expected with Indie games using Unreal 4, as optimization work is not very advanced. A bug in cut-scenes can cause the game to get locked at 30 FPS, needing a restart to fix. 💻 Artificial Intelligence Enemies use pattern based movement as expected in a platformer. 🏠 Quality of Life Nothing to report. 🐛 Bugs & Issues Some actions can result in levels breaking, such as dragging a crate into a door while closing will result in Kit being stuck forever. Nothing else than this.
Conclusion
Another Sight is an average indie platformer with some good features but also some pretty rough edges, and therefore fails to stand up above mediocrity. Suggested to platformers and narration based games fans, with a discount and not at full price.
RATING: 6.0 / 10

Another Sight
Another Sight is a very nice easy side scrolling platformer, with many puzzles to solve along the way. You play as a Girl who is blind and has night vision, and a ginger cat who can see by day and joins you near the start. I wont tell you about story as you will discover the story for yourselfs as you play. You will start slow as the girl only walks till the cat appears, and at times when cat is out of her sight she is scared and only walks. You will interchange from cat and girl alot, using both cat and girl to solve puzzles to progress. My only issue with game is the Jumping, cat jumps at times to ledges on opposite side where wonky, meaning even at times run and jump would cause cat to miss and fall , so I had to get the right spots in some areas for cat to make the jumps, also need to line cat up just below the ledges to jump up and grab. The girl I also had issues with jumping, I watch a youtuube and did same as the youtuber in some areas, but the girl would not jump for me eventually she jumped when cat was near as cat gives of extra light glow so she an see and not feel so scared. The game will teach you play mechanics at start of game as you make your way through first levels. Make sure to explore using cat first then the girl, as cat cant reach some areas that girl can. My opinion is I really liked this game, my only issue was the jumping with both girl and cat if your not close enough to edge girl misses the jumps and also if cats not near by. The cat struggled at time to grab elevated ledges that seemed close , but cat would just miss, I did mange to get to the ledges after many attempts mostly in the area before the garden opened up. Price wise, I feel game is more a RRP of $12usd given its very short, I would recomend waiting for a sale on this game. I got my key from GMG at 40%off and payed $13.59usd for game, convert that price to australian dollars and its still rather pricey for us. YES I should have waited for a bundle deal OR a better discount, but I wanted the game after i saw it on the steam store and had the funds in my paypal at the time to buy it also. I enjoyed the game, and I finished the game with 100% all achievements.
Movement is life
After watching the trailer I almost instantly compared this game with some rework of Alice in Wonderland focused on a single tale and in the game the character makes reference to be feeling like her. The game states that the protagonist is blind but she can see in a very short range because she walks very slowly when our fellow partner is far from us and faster when we are grouped. Noises help the protagonist to notice the surroundings, and we can call our cat to know where he is or to illuminate some part of the environment for both the cat and the protagonist.
Gameplay
Almost all levels are labyrinthine designed in a similar way but the more puzzles you do, the more difficult the next becomes, and not only in terms of complexity but in length too. Duration The game can guarantee at least 10 hours of full gameplay, you could hardly finish this game in one day so it will make you keep the curiosity under the bed to uncover it next morning. For a second playtrought I would really like to be able to skip the cutscenes, also when some of them are really unnecesary. Camera The camera here will move almost as the same time we ask, since every plane has its own camera position, so we won't have any "UH! I can't see what I'm doing!" apart from the original idea of the game. Also it will come in handy when we have to do puzzles since the camera will only focus on that part.
More deeply
Characters and environment The game happens in what it seems to be the mechanical part of an abandoned train station and our principal goal is to reach the end of it, going deeper if necessary, since the start we will have the help of a cat which name will be eventually revealed, one of the characters, the protagonist is afraid of the dark but at the same time is valiant enough to continue forward meanwhile his cat is confident and small enough to smaller hiding places and reach zones that any human couldn't find and last but not less important, using the sight of the cat will allow us to literally see everything clearly and with all colors, so it may be worth it to explore the zone as a cat first to memorize it. The environment may be colorful or black depending on who we play with, but that's not the only danger that we will confront, as we go forward we will find dangerous obstacles and holes in the ground through which we can fall but don't worry with this, the game is not gore at all so the game will cover our death with a quick respawn in our last safe position. But we can also fall from high distances so be careful because the games nails the realistic situations. Graphics Every scenario is built carefully taking care of the design, as a game made with Unreal Engine both the background and the interactable environment are well detailed. Surprisingly it requires a medium graphic card to enjoy the best of the game, I with a 1050ti with 4GB could run the game smoothly at 60 fps, and I know this is by far way better than the system requirements but you can hardly trust those.
Rating
Pros •Entertaining soundtrack that match the feelings of the game what the game wants to express to us. •Difficulty friendly, I don't like puzzles at all but when they are accompanied with a story and a why I should pass this puzzles it makes the game worth it, honestly I'm bad at solving puzzles but this game offers a difficulty that scales but never goes to an impossible level. Cons •Meanwhile the cat movement is fast and accurate, the protagonist moves very slowly most of the time, through long journeys this can be a problem for some players. Sometimes there are some monologues from the character but that's not very common. •There are scenes where you have to walk straight for one minute or more, doing that with a keyboard is pretty boring, meanwhile walking with a controller enable you to relax wherever you are sit.
Final thoughts
Lot of games with similar style end in failure, this one has taken advantage of our graphic cards to make something affordable and enjoyable at the same time, although some moments of the gameplay can be boring, most of it offers a playable worth adventure.
[REVIEW EDITED 31 May 2019] Interesting game with an unusual idea behind it ... no, not the tag-team puzzle-platforming, that's old hat, but that one of the two characters you control apparently has gone temporarily synaesthetic and sees sound as light, meaning sometimes she needs a noise in her vicinity or she can't see where she's going. Also has (at least as far as I got) an amusingly bizarre storyline, featuring Monet, Edison, Tesla, and Mme. Blavatsky, all trying to control a McGuffin of Cosmic Power ... buried somewhere below late-1800's London? Also has a cat. I like games that have cats. Unfortunately, this is a thumbs-down review because the controls will make you tear your hair out. I tried very hard. I made it through several sections where the cat's jumps were so unreliable that I had to repeat what should have been a very simple series of jumps twenty times. But it was somewhere in Tesla's lab, when both characters have to get past a series of six lightning spindles, that I couldn't take it any more. The cat is easy enough; he can see the circles on the ground that mark the limits of the areas where the lightning will hit. But the girl can't see the circles well enough. And though there's a spreading glow which precedes each stroke of lightning, by the time you realize you're a millimeter too far and are going to get hit by lightning, it's too late to move out of the way. Or her walking speed suddenly decides to change. Or the movement controls suddenly don't respond as well as they should. Restart whole sequence. Did I mention this game does not have manual saves? [2019] The developers posted a comment that the Definitive Edition has fixed or improved these issues, so I started the game again from the beginning. I didn't notice much difference in control; it might have been that some parts were a LITTLE easier to handle, but not much. It seemed like there was a little more leeway for when Hodge is willing to grab onto an edge, which is nice. One sequence in the Hodge-only hallucination level (jumping between pillar tops) still had me cussing just as much as I remember cussing before; he skids a little and sometimes falls off them even when you've done it right. I do admit they fixed the lightning spindles puzzle; the circles on the ground are much easier to see now, and I feel like they built a little leeway into the safety radius. Unfortunately, I eventually did give up in disgust again. The stealth puzzles had been annoyingly designed to begin with (the threshold on how close you can get to a guard is extremely finicky, Hodge's meow has very unreliable "distract" behavior depending on which guard it is and how far away he is, and Our Heroine sometimes stops to look around when you D+E to take her out of concealment). I got through them all right, though, until not long after the piano puzzle. Then, trying to figure out how to get idiot girl down the long series of descending platforms while SIMULTANEOUSLY avoiding/distracting guards just broke me. I stopped at a point where she needed to jump across a two-foot gap but I couldn't find anything to make enough noise/light to convince her her jump button worked. Hodge is meowing at her "jump across, stupid" from the other side. Guard can't be drawn close enough to provide light. No dice. Fall scream die, cat is now reset to four platforms away, repeat. I am here to figure out puzzles, not figure out how to coerce the game's play mechanics into cooperating. (I later went and looked at a playthrough and apparently for some people having the cat there--in the exact same place I put him-- is enough light for her to make the jump, which just illustrates my point about how inconsistent the mechanics are.) I said it last year and I'll say it again: Manual saves would help this game a lot. A LOT. These things would still be frustrating, but at least you could save in tiny incremental steps. I don't mind being at the mercy of a game's checkpoint mechanism usually, but in this game, you often can't even guess where it's going to put you after you die. There was one point, on my first attempt, where I had to repeat a whole sequence because I didn't realize the game had reset to a point where Hodge was sitting by a press-once-only button (the wind panel in the ruins) but had undone the fact that *he had already pressed it*. Moved him along to his next bit of business, twenty jumps further on ... then had to send him all the way back because no wind to illuminate the grass, so the Synaesthesia Kid couldn't make those lousy two-foot jumps. It's improved. It's still frustrating. Sorry, Lunar. I do believe you tried. Really.
Phew! I've finally finished the game. At over 12 hours, it was quite a marathon! You play Kit, a girl who went blind after a fall and her faithful companion Hodge who helps her. I had a DLC where I could change Hodge into any colour I wanted. Kit and Hodge explore a world underneath London and in their journey they meet Claude Monet, Nikola Tesla, Claude Debussy, Thomas Edison and Jules Verne. This is late Victorian era. All the luminaries are after the Node, a fabled source of energy which all of them want to use for their purposes. At the end Kit has to make a choice whose cause to support. Whatever ending you choose, there is a cutscene at the end. You can go back and play the other endings too. What a difficult choice to make!! Each of the worlds that Kit and Hodge explore are interesting and it is good that the environment changes. There is a lot of climbing and jumping to do....and guards to dodge. Most of the puzzles are fairly easy. Many complained about Hodges jumping, but I had no issues. I actually found Kit hard to manage and there were times when she simply wouldn't jump! So game play could be dodgy at times. Once Kit got into a corner and she wouldn't move, so I had to start the chapter again. The girl who played Kit's role was excellent with her crisp English accent. Reminded me of Julie Andrews! Some of Kit's dialogues were delightful as she pondered the world around her. Hodge agreed with a miaow! The music is beautiful and played by a full symphonic orchestra. The other actors were good too, especially whoever played Debussy who was slightly and deliciously mad! Recommended for those who enjoy light platforming with a slight clunkiness and an interesting story. Buy on sale. 8/10.
ARTILAR :
+ Tüm doğru noktalara parmak basan etkileyici bir hikaye. + Akıllıca tasarlanmış bulmacalar. + Tempo, baştan sona iyi ayarlanmış. + İyi derecede bir görsel ve işitsel çalışma.
EKSİLER :
- Platform kısımları bazen sapıtabiliyor. - Gizemli kedimiz Hodge'un kontrolleri daha akıcı olabilirdi.
This game is hot garbage. I played through it and I can tell you the entire blurb for what the game is, that is complete nonsense. the puzzles get more and more awful towards the end due to the fact the camera angle will obscure the primary details to the edge of the screen. There is no character development, they don't actively deal with blindness in any capacity just limited vision and a differing perspective. There is no real bond between the girl and the cat and while the music is amazing and kit's monologues are good we are left with increasingly obtuse game play and shallow characters and a complete non ending. I bout this game during a sale and now am completely convinced I should have bought some goldfish crackers because I would have more enjoyment eating those and listening to an orchestra than wrestling with these controls again. I give this game a SOLID participation ribbon and pat on the back for great visuals that you GET TO SEE SOME OF THE TIME. Pass on this. If something like forgotten anne is available buy that instead. Or goldfish crackers.
One of the first Steam purchases I've come to regret. I was intrigued by the beautiful artwork and gameplay trailer but the finished product feels more like an unpolished Indie game. The controls are absolutely terrible at times, particularly when you are playing as the cat. His jumps are comically wide, making precision platform jumping with this character extremely frustrating. Sometimes the main character will refuse to move forward after a cutscene, causing you to have to exit the game and relaunch. The vast majority of this game involves puzzle solving and most of the puzzles are tedious and not the least bit fun. The game itself feels like a chore to complete.
The first half of this game is incredible. The second half (starting with the guards and the music puzzle) is tedious and the fun is unfortunately gone.
