A short but pretty and peaceful game. I love it. Graphics: Beautiful and intriguing, the core of this game. Music: Simple but harmonic. Story: Interesting. Not obscure. Gameplay: Simple and normal but not easy (some place), hit the boxlike thing and through the poison water. So If you like this kind of art style and do not expect too much of the gameplay, give a shot.
First: I see a lot of Zelda references in the reviews. Those people are out of their minds. It's all right for what it is. No fights, small puzzles, weird ambiance, lovely short soundtrack and a distinctive art style that almost seems to work by accident. The game's short and doesn't have too much time to get dull. Could use a graphical retouch here and there, because you can see a lot of hasty stitches. Could use the removal of most flavour text, because as prose it's awful. All in all, probably not worth that full price, but I don't regret picking it up on discount.
Overview
A beautifully illustrated, 2D top-down game with a focus on zen-like journeying, light puzzling, precision-platforming, and fallen gods.
My thoughts
Unique, fun to play 2D puzzle game, highly fascinating You can set your own pace depending on your playstyle Puzzles require skill, and just the right amount of luck to complete This game encourages you to explore the world
Do I recommend this game?
Kinda. While it excells in visuals and sound, most will agree that it lacks in other categories I would recommend this game if you know what you are getting into. 6/10 for absence of much content thereof Curator review for Vantom giveaways.
Animal Gods - A Steam Review
[Disclamer - I was provided a copy of by the publisher for review purposes] The good

Awesome graphic style
Interesting story theme
The not so good:

Somewhat short
The conclusion: If you look at this as a game, you might find some faults - repetitive gameplay, small map, intricate story, no tutorial. But I feel that this game should be treated as an artwork, where the message and the medium are the most important parts, and the gameplay is there just to advance the two. I would call it a patience platformer - if you take everything slow and methodic, you could, theoretically, finish the game without dying. It’s an experience, exploring every nook and cranny for pieces of diary that tie together the story, trying to understand what allegory is the game trying to present to the player - my bet is on the aztecs and their rather unfortunate meeting with the europeans. I understand the feelings of the people that gave this game a negative review, but I think they went into playing it with the wrong expectations. You wouldn’t complain that an art movie has no explosions and lens flare, would you? Watch me play here : https://youtu.be/052y_51NOz4
Kickstarted this game, after reading the description "The game pairs the tight and polished action of The Legend of Zelda: A Link between Worlds with a cast of characters and touching story moments that might remind you of classic 90's JRPGS". The game doesn't even come close to reaching that goal. I played through one dungeon which had a tedious and boring mechanic and couldn't bring myself to play any more.
This is a vacuous mockery of the titles that inspired it, a boring art project at best, and a $10 insult to the customer's intelligence at worst. Full review: http://www.cubed3.com/review/2431/1/animal-gods-pc.html
I got a review copy for this site I am contributing to. (Indonesian gamers can check on my in-depth rant here) I really want to like this game. With the cool graphics, promising story and all. But I just cannot. The game is simply too frustrating, even for a simple game that makes you beat inanimate boxes to death. And sometimes the game gives you a variation by telling me to calmly strolling on an empty quiet huge space. How's that calming. Also, The checkpoint system needs an overhaul to say the least, and I bet the people that play this would agree with me. And that's only few points that I had to bring up because I am agreeing with every single negative reviews here so no need to write them down twice.
Its a short game got 2 modes... normal mode and 9lives mode.. both mode are with gameplay the same only different is that by 9lives mode you got 9 lives and when you got by 0 youre dead and need to restart game. i did enjoy it only - things was that i didnt get my last achievement:( and wish the story was bit better.. didnt understand at all lol. gameplay is good by 1 temple you learn how to use sword and other a bow and by last ability dash. so there are 3 temples to finish first.. and then last temple (combine the 3) and that it lol def wait when it on sale wouldnt buy whole price for this
With all of it’s quirkiness I at times feel that this game could still use some polishing up. It has a feeling of a game that is still a work in progress and is on it’s way to become a great game. I am glad I was able to have the chance to experience Animal Gods and look forward to what more Still Games have to create for gamers in the future. I just hope they take the time make it a more lasting and rounded experience. You can see my full review where i go into more details of my overall experience and way I still give it a thumbs up here: http://www.confidentgamers.com/animal-god-on-steam-review/
Nice game with interesting graphics and story, albeit very short.
