Angry Video Game Nerd 8-bit

I initially bought this game because Retroware and Mega Cat Games previously promised a NES ROM of the game to be included in the game's files, only for most public statements of that promise to be retracted and for them to say they won't now for one reason or another. This negative review is being left because my purchase of this game was largely predicated on that promise, and I find the responses/reasons given to be unacceptable.

This game has charm in spades, especially if you're a fan of the Angry Video Game Nerd. But the other two were just so much better. There are so many poor design decisions going into this one that it's really hard to recommend. Too many levels of power ups, that are taken away when you're hit, very limited subweapons, almost no hit invincibility (leading you to getting chain-hit by the same enemy), bullet sponge enemies. It starts out fun enough, but quickly becomes very frustrating to play. I reached the final battle through sheer stubbornness, and now that it's all behind me I can't really recall having much fun beyond the initial couple stages. Get the AVGN 1&2 Deluxe Collection instead. They're plain better games, and far more worth the price than this is.

This game is pretty well polished, and if you're an AVGN fan, has an interesting enough story; but it is fundamentally trying to be a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. While the Nerd's core mechanics are fine, the levels and enemies are designed to be as absolutely obnoxious as possible, and by no means actually engage with or test the Nerd's small kit. That's not to say that this game is particularly hard or difficult, this is more of a case of needing to learn each level's "gatcha" spots and to adapt to that sort of design.

Der AVGN ist zurück - mit seinem mittlerweile dritten Abenteuer. Aber wie das damals in der 8 Bit Ära so war, braucht ihr für diesen Mega-Man-NES-Klon quasi nur ca. 1h und seid dann durch. Der Schwierigkeitsgrad ist gewohnt schwer und so manche Feindplatzierungen unnötig fies - aber was wäre der Nerd bitte ohne "sh*tty game mechanics"?! ;D Für Fans gibt's viele Serien-Anspielungen und insbesondere die Real-Aufnahmen vom Nerd in den Cutscenes geben nochmal eine extra Prise "heimisches Gefühl" in den Spielspaßcocktail. Definitiv für einen einstelligen Betrag holen und genießen. Der Original-Preis ist leider unfassbar unverschämt. Nur für Fans!

　とりあえずEasyでクリアしました。 　タイトル的には8bitということですが、そもそも前作(？)のAdventures自体も外見的には8bit風だった気もします。なので、外見というよりは、ゲーム性が8bit時代に実際にありそうな感じを目指されているように思えます。あるいは、実物のNESカートリッジ版も販売されているので、それに収録可能なもの(実際に8bit機のNESで動作可能なもの)、ということかもしれません。 　AVGNの(商業的な)ゲームとしてはAVGN adventuresに続く作品ということになり、ファン向けでありつつ、ファン層のレトロゲーム愛好者向けなゲームにもなっています。 　ゲーム内にAVGNネタが豊富なのは相変わらずで、敵やステージの構成の他、テキストなどにも細かくネタが仕込まれています(終盤のあるところで、背景に並んだキャラクターの意味が分かったときは笑いました)。ゲームオーバー時のテキストなんかもそうですが、AVGN知らない人が見たら大丈夫か？とも思います。 　オープニングからAVGNの実写ムービーで始まり、クリアの段階ごとにムービーが挟まれます。AVGNの1つのエピソードを見ているようでした。 　公式で日本語対応となっており、ゲーム内の言語を日本語にすると、ムービーの字幕はもちろん、ゲーム内のテキストやUIまで、英語のままのテキストが全く存在しないのではと思えるほど、翻訳されます。さらに、タイトルのロゴまで日本語になります。他の言語は全部英語ロゴのままだったので、日本語限定のサービスです。公式のグッズに使われていたものの流用だからできたのかもしれませんが、「ザ　アングリー～」という表記を含めたダサさが、いい味を出しています。ただ逆に、その状態を強要される、ということでもあります。 　翻訳については、意味としては正確だし、表現も悪くないのですが、何か少し律儀すぎるというか、某動画サイトでのファン翻訳のような、ぶっ飛んだノリに欠ける感があります。実写ムービーで引用される過去のAVGNエピソードのセリフの一部とか、ラスボスの名前とか、文章としては自然というか丁寧になるように翻訳されているのですが、かえってお行儀が良すぎる気がしました。その辺は好みも大きいと思いますが。 　あまりにも日本語が充実しているので、AVGNの英語表現が無い(ゲーム中の音声はさすがにそのままですが、ムービー以外はごくわずかです。8bitだから当たり前ですが)ことで、何か違うなあ、という気もします。 　ゲーム的にはロックマン風の、弾を撃って進むアクションです。 　初見殺しも多いですが、体力制、残機制ということもありますし、ゲームデザインそのものとしても、前作ほどの死にゲーというわけではないように思えました。ただ、Normalでラスボスがクリアできなかったので、Easyでやり直しましたが、Easyだとかなりヌルいです(即死が無くなって、微ダメージになります。そのほか、敵の耐久力の低下など)。 　基本的にはパターンを覚えていくゲームで、そんなにシビアな操作や反応が求められるという感じではないですが、覚えるまでが面倒です。 　ステージ内で拾ったアイテムで銃を強化できるのですが、ダメージを食らうとその段階が下がり(一応取り戻せますが)、死んだ場合はゼロに戻った状態で復活、という形です。死んだら残機分はすぐに再挑戦できますが「初期状態でやり直し」なので、きついです。パワーアップしているとむしろかなり簡単に感じることが多く、割と極端です。その辺はレトロなゲームを踏襲したのかもしれませんが。 　ただ、ステージをクリアしてもそれだけで、特典が無いというのは寂しいです。ロックマン風なのだから、特殊武器とか装備が増えるとかあればよかったと思います。 　また、ボリュームも控えめかもしれませんが、まあ値段なりといったところでしょうか。 　シビアなレトロゲー風、という感じですが、難易度も含めて、どちらかと言えばAVGNのファンアイテム、という面が強いように思います。 　動作などは快適だし、設定項目も充実しているので、手軽に遊べるアクションゲームとして悪くないと思います(ファンとして好意的に見ている面はあります)。日本人としては、丁寧な翻訳がされており素晴らしいのですが、何か少し違う、という気もします。 　ただ、せっかく新録された実写ムービーを自由に見られる、ギャラリー的なものがないのは気になります。実機NES版に実写ムービーが実装不可能だから、ゲーム内にそういうメニューを搭載できなかったのでしょうか。あるいは、そういうことができるパスワードでもあるのでしょうか？

the game is alright but it so short that the 20$ asking price is not worth it. wait for sale where you can get much cheaper.
