6/10 Turn on all the lights in this one-big-world Sokoban-style game. What is it: A sokoban game in which you’re a robot with a peculiar task, but figuring out what that task is is the purpose of the entire game, so at first you just move from one room to the next, turning on lights that open doors. The boxes don’t have a goal, but they conduct electricity so they are just used for connecting power sources to lightbulbs. They are also infinite and disposable, so you don’t have to carefully juggle them. If a box is in the wrong place, just push it into a wall and go get a new one. The puzzles are quite good, and as you progress the rooms get increasingly interconnected. It’s purposefully retro, with no undo, a green tint, no menus or UI, just start it up and play. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3551658781 The unique disposable nature of the boxes stands out in this game. Since they can be freely created and destroyed, there’s less maneuvering and more thinking about the intended shape of the final solution. Still, it’s not entirely free of maneuvering, since often you have to figure out how to get one box in its place without destroying any of the other boxes. The game evolves from just figuring out where to place boxes, to figuring out the right order in which you must place the boxes and the needed intermediary steps, and later on, figuring out how to move boxes between rooms and solve not just one room, but a whole sequence of connected rooms. All the rooms are connected, and in the end you can even get access to a crude map. There are also a few shortcuts between areas, unlocked once you reach the other side. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3551658025 Overall, it’s a nice retro puzzle game, though the lack of undo really bugged me. How hard is it: Easy to moderate, ★★☆☆☆. How long is it: 48 rooms, though not all with puzzles, 2-3 hours. Level design: Good. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3551658415 Quality: Minimalistically retro. [strike]No undo[/strike] Undo, but not unlimited. No level select, since it’s all in one big interconnected world. Basic controls. Just a few audio settings, plays windowed only but the window is fully resizable. No cloud saving. Progress reset. A few progress achievements. There’s a respawn feature if you get stuck in a locked room like I did. Autosave and 3 manual save slots. Small, fast and responsive. Worth the price: Yes. Most positive aspect for me: Good puzzles. Most negative aspect for me: No undo! What would make it better: [strike]Undo![/strike] Configurable controls. More settings, at least a fullscreen toggle. Configurable color scheme, not everyone likes pea soup. Cloud saving. Also consider: The Electrifying Incident: A Monster Mini-Expedition, another sokoban-like with a unique goal taking place in an interconnected series of rooms. This game brightened my day.
Simple controls with creative and challenging puzzles. It's a winning combo.
