English version of this review is below ---------------------- Очень хорошая и патриотическая игра, очень годный глубокий лор, семейные ценности показаны правильно - взаимоотношения отца Сергея и сына Дрочеслава вдохновляют. -------- English version --------- Very good and patriotic game, very nice deep lore. Family values are represented as they should be - relationships between father Sergei and his son Masturboslav are very inspiring. I can feel the genetic code of the slavic people. However, the joy about the game is spoiled by the fUcт that the game doesn't want me. (to complete the level of Baikalsk (I got stuck in a door) and the dungeons (the boss is walled himself up in the building)). Combat system is good, but it's ♥♥♥♥ - Sergei the father of Masturboslav is half-blind because he cannot hit anyone. Archer doesn't get a dagame boost from ball clamp and he constantly runs out of arrows. We badly need a baikal water to restore the arrows!!! The rest of the characters are ok. The game is lagging on my laptop with integrated graphics - maybe that's because of my non-slavic computational machine but I would like to feel more frames per second. In general, we can repeat, when optimization and combat system are better.

ANCIENT RUS VS LIZARDS, developed and published by Performance Artist Games, is an unapologetically bizarre action title that feels more like a chaotic internet concept brought to life than a traditionally structured game. Built around the absurd premise of ancient Slavic warriors battling reptilian invaders, it embraces a tone that is equal parts parody, satire, and low-budget experimentation. From the outset, it becomes clear that the experience is driven less by refined mechanics and more by the sheer novelty of its idea. The gameplay centers on third-person combat across a handful of compact arenas. Players select from a small group of characters, each equipped with different weapons, and engage in straightforward battles against waves of lizard enemies. The combat system incorporates elements reminiscent of more deliberate action games, including stamina management and timed attacks, but it remains relatively simple in execution. While it functions well enough to support the core loop, it lacks the responsiveness and depth needed to make encounters consistently engaging. Fights often rely more on repetition than strategy, and once the basic rhythm is understood, there is little variation to keep the experience fresh. Structure is one of the game’s weakest areas. Levels follow a predictable pattern—enter a location, defeat enemies, and move on—with minimal change in objectives or design. There is no meaningful progression system, no unlockable content to work toward, and little sense of growth over time. All available content is accessible from the start, which removes any incentive to continue beyond the initial curiosity. This makes the game feel more like a collection of scenarios than a cohesive journey, with its replay value largely dependent on how much players enjoy its core combat loop. Where the game stands out most is in its tone and identity. It leans heavily into absurd humor, drawing from exaggerated pseudo-historical themes and internet meme culture. The concept itself is intentionally ridiculous, and the game commits to that absurdity without hesitation. For some players, this creates a unique charm, offering moments of humor that set it apart from more conventional titles. For others, the joke may wear thin quickly, especially since the gameplay does little to evolve alongside the premise. Visually, the game adopts a basic 3D style that prioritizes functionality over polish. Character models, animations, and environments are serviceable but lack refinement, often appearing rough around the edges. The environments themselves offer limited variety, which contributes to the overall sense of repetition. While the aesthetic attempts to ground the experience in a semi-realistic setting, technical limitations prevent it from fully achieving that goal. Audio design follows a similar pattern. Voice acting in Russian adds a layer of cultural authenticity, reinforcing the game’s thematic direction, but the overall soundscape is sparse. Music and effects are minimal, providing little in the way of atmosphere or impact. As a result, the audio feels more like a supporting element than a defining feature of the experience. Despite its shortcomings, ANCIENT RUS VS LIZARDS has a certain appeal rooted in its willingness to be unconventional. It does not attempt to compete with more polished action games, nor does it try to expand beyond its core idea. Instead, it offers a brief, strange experience that can be entertaining in short bursts, particularly for players who appreciate offbeat or experimental projects. Ultimately, the game succeeds more as a concept than as a fully developed product. Its humor and premise give it a distinct identity, but the lack of depth, variety, and progression limits its ability to sustain long-term engagement. It is best approached as a novelty—something to experience out of curiosity rather than as a deeply engaging action game. Rating: 6/10
