i really tried to like it, however, it has horrible controls, (I think it is part of making the game hard just for the sake of making it hard by having stupid controls or bad code with extra lag on acknowledging input; it sometimes goes too far or sometimes it doesn't even get engaged, especially when trying to push stuff. so the last 20 minutes or more of time wasted, I was trying to get the character to jump and stay on top of one of the stones, but it kept either going too far and fell or wasn't pushing enough to land on it; anyways puzzles are hard and good but if I can not focus on solving the puzzle and struggle with my controls (I was even pushing the buttons harder as if the buttons on the controller were sticky and firing properly, which isn't the case i am playing lots of other games which don't have this kind of lame controls).
One of the most beautiful and enjoyable puzzle games I've ever played. I really cannot decide what I loved more -- the puzzles, intertwined levels or the amazing art style; either way, I consider it a true masterpiece. Big thanks to Ernestine developers team for such a wonderful journey.
An Interesting Journey of Monsieur PAF, developed by Ernestine and published by Plug In Digital in collaboration with Ernestine, is a quietly charming puzzle adventure that places thoughtful spatial reasoning and visual clarity at the center of its design. Rather than relying on narrative exposition or mechanical complexity, the game invites players into a carefully constructed ancient temple and asks them to progress purely through observation, logic, and patience. It is a modestly scoped experience, but one that demonstrates a clear understanding of what makes puzzle-solving satisfying without overwhelming the player. The premise is intentionally simple and almost wordless. You guide Monsieur PAF, a stout and expressive explorer, through a mysterious ruin after an expedition goes awry. There is no dialogue and little in the way of explicit storytelling; instead, the sense of adventure emerges organically from the environment itself. Crumbling stone structures, mechanical contraptions, and layered chambers suggest a forgotten civilization whose logic must be deciphered room by room. This minimalism allows the player to project their own sense of discovery onto the journey, making each solved puzzle feel like a small archaeological breakthrough. Gameplay is rooted in classic Sokoban-style logic, with puzzles built around pushing blocks, activating pressure plates, and navigating tight spaces. What elevates the design is how it uses verticality and perspective within its isometric view. Rooms are often multi-layered, forcing players to think not just about left and right movement, but also about elevation, line of sight, and the order in which actions are taken. Solutions are rarely complicated in isolation, but they demand foresight, as a single misplaced block can require rethinking the entire room. This emphasis on planning over reflexes gives the game a calm, almost meditative rhythm. The pacing is deliberately gentle. There are no enemies, no timers, and no fail states in the traditional sense. Monsieur PAF cannot die, and mistakes are part of the learning process rather than a source of punishment. This design choice makes the game approachable for players of all skill levels and removes the anxiety often associated with puzzle-heavy experiences. Each room feels like a self-contained challenge, encouraging experimentation and reflection rather than speed or optimization. Progress feels steady and rewarding, even when puzzles require multiple attempts to fully understand. Visually, the game adopts a colorful, hand-crafted aesthetic that enhances both readability and charm. The environments are bright and clean, making interactive elements easy to distinguish while still conveying a sense of age and mystery. The art direction favors clarity over spectacle, which works especially well in a puzzle game where visual confusion can undermine logical thinking. Monsieur PAF himself is an endearing presence, his animations and physicality giving personality to an otherwise silent protagonist and grounding the experience in lighthearted charm. Sound design is understated but effective, reinforcing the tranquil tone of the journey. Ambient audio and subtle musical cues support the sense of exploration without distracting from the puzzles themselves. Silence is used thoughtfully, allowing players to focus on spatial reasoning and visual cues. This restraint helps maintain immersion, making the temple feel like a place meant for contemplation rather than danger. That said, the game is not without minor frustrations. The save system and room-reset behavior can feel limiting at times, especially when a small mistake forces players to re-engage with an entire puzzle setup. Some interactive elements may not be immediately obvious, leading to moments of trial and error that briefly disrupt the otherwise smooth flow. These issues are relatively minor, but they highlight the game’s indie-scale polish rather than a lack of creative vision. Ultimately, An Interesting Journey of Monsieur PAF succeeds by knowing exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t chase narrative spectacle or mechanical novelty, instead offering a focused, thoughtfully designed puzzle experience built around spatial logic and quiet discovery. For players who enjoy methodical problem-solving, clean visual design, and low-pressure exploration, it provides a rewarding journey that feels both accessible and intellectually engaging. It may be short and understated, but its charm lies in that restraint, delivering a memorable puzzle adventure that respects the player’s time and curiosity. Rating: 7/10
