Among Trees

It's a good game despite what reviews might lead you to think. It's flushed out, and to the point. It offers challenging gameplay that isn't overly punishing, and is satisfying - if a bit redundant in the end. If you come into this game with limited expectation, you will find yourself a nice gem to return to every few years.

I really REALLY wanted to recommend this game, because the graphics are stunning, the music is chill and I'd love to see what you can find, craft and cook, but... sadly it caused multiple crashes on my computer and I really don't have a bad or weak one :/

At first blush a bit basic. However, more complex than initially thought. A chill fun game.

I know this game is not being updated. I did very much enjoy it. It helped me through a dark time. It was a peace that I needed and I thank the creators of it. Great job guys! I really appreciate it.

[h1] Ein wunderschöner Zufluchtsort – wenn man die richtige Erwartungshaltung mitbringt [/h1] Das Spiel sieht einfach wunderschön aus und erfüllt meiner Meinung nach genau den Zweck, den es haben soll. Viele andere Rezensionen bemängeln den fehlenden Inhalt und fragen sich: " [b] Wozu das Ganze, wenn man erst mal alle Upgrades hat? [/b] " Ich finde, das ist die völlig falsche Perspektive. Die Prämisse des Spiels ist es doch, dass der Charakter vor der modernen Welt in diesen Wald flieht, um abzuschalten, fernab des Alltags zu sein und zu sich selbst zu finden. Exakt dieses Gefühl vermittelt [b] Among Trees [/b] meisterhaft. Es ist kein klassisches Adventure mit Hochspannung in jeder Pore, sondern ein digitaler Fluchtort. Es ist genau das Spiel, das man nach einem anstrengenden Arbeitstag startet, um einfach mal den Kopf freizubekommen, ein bisschen zu angeln oder in Ruhe seine Pflänzchen anzubauen. [h2] Ein paar Ecken und Kanten gibt es leider trotzdem [/h2] Man muss ehrlich sein: Das Spiel wirkt an einigen Stellen leider noch unfertig und versprüht spürbare "Early Access"-Vibes. Es gibt ein paar technische und inhaltliche Ungereimtheiten, auf die man sich einstellen sollte: [h3] Loot-Logik: [/h3] Loot respawnt kurioserweise direkt, wenn man schlafen geht. Wenn man aber geöffneten Loot einfach liegen lässt, das Spiel verlässt und neu lädt, despawnt er komplett. [h3] Unfertige Items: [/h3] Man kann beispielsweise "Reinforced Planks" herstellen, die laut Beschreibung für den Ausbau der Hütte gedacht sind. In der Realität wird diese Ressource aber für absolut keine der bisherigen Erweiterungen im Spiel gebraucht – sie existiert einfach ohne Nutzen. [h2] Fazit: [/h2] Ja, das Spiel hätte noch so viel mehr Potenzial gehabt als das, was letztendlich daraus geworden ist. Aber wenn man es mal im Sale bekommt, ist es auf jeden Fall einen Blick wert. Wer einfach mal für ein paar Stunden den Stecker ziehen, die Seele baumeln lassen und die großartige Atmosphäre genießen möchte, wird hier eine wunderbare Zeit haben. Ein tolles Spiel, um einfach mal abzuschalten.

I quite enjoyed this, what I would call, aesthetically focused survival game. It really is a beautiful world to explore through, and get to know. As far as survival/crafting games go, it is pretty barebones and doesn't expand on many systems beyond the surface level. But the mechanics are there, interesting, fun, and some even challenging at times. It is worth noting that the play time (and price) are only a fractions of other major games in the genre that offer a much deeper take on survival mechanics. I honestly don't know how highly I'd recommend it to a serious fan of the genre, though I do think it's worth a look for anyone looking to try a new short survival game. If your love of survival craft games is spending hours designing your base, and optimizing resource generation, this is definitely not for you. But if you are a casual gamer interested in trying out the genre, and looking to get immersed in a bloom filled painting for an evening of enjoyable exploration, I would recommend giving it a playthrough. I think it accomplishes what it set out to do, create a beautiful, cozy, and atmospheric survival game that doesn't require investing a large chunk of your life to experience.

This is an aesthetically peaceful game for those that want something survival/gathering and simple. Even though the graphics aren't as suped up as other modern games, its simplicity makes it wholesome. There is danger in the game to be avoided, but it also has a zen mode, without the threat of bears. I'd honestly say this game could be a great start for survival games for kids and for any adult that just doesn't want a game that feels like a chore. Even with the few struggles (learning the fishing mechanic, finding specific building materials) it is all obtainable in game if you explore enough and keep up with food and water. One of my favorite games for when life is hard and you want to relax.
