From the creators of Amnesia: The Dark Descent and Dear Esther comes a new first-person horrorgame that will drag you to the depths of greed, power and madness. It will bury its snout into your ribs and it will eat your heart.

What Machine for Pigs lacks in gameplay (compared to Dark Descent) it thoroughly makes up for it in story, where the true 'horror' lies. Not developed by Frictional Games but by the Chinese Room, who already proved themselves creative storytellers with Dear Esther, the first 'game' without an interface or HUD where exploration and audio logs piece together the story. It is still one of my favourite games of all time as it proves (traditional) gameplay is not needed for an engaging video game experience. I wish they had made MfP in an entirely similar fashion, I mean the no re-fuelling of the oil lamp was a good idea, but the mindless turning of valves, opening empty drawers/cabinets and carrying useless items by hand to find its purpose bogged the game down. It could have been shorter even, as in the end many people don't consider this a real Amnesia game anyway. Having re-played the game recently in VR using Vorpx and a HD texture pack made the experience fresh and exciting again (apart from the above mentioned gameplay blockers).

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

First playthrough review time. This game was made by a different studio, and the change in direction is clear. Many features that usually create tension are missing or greatly reduced. There is no real need to manage health or mental condition, and light can be used without any downside. Enemies rarely create fear, since their presence only causes minor warnings from a distance. Even the title choice, which centers on pigs, feels misplaced and does not match the tone the game seems to aim for. It would have been better if the developers had chosen another form of mutant creature as the main face of the game, instead of pigs, which don’t fit the game and clearly communicate that the creature design is not just unpleasant but also it’s physically repulsive atleast for me. The level design is another major issue. Progress follows a strict straight path, leaving no room for choice or exploration. Most enemy encounters are clearly planned, and sudden scares are used often instead of careful buildup. Large parts of the environments are blocked off, making movement confusing rather than meaningful. With fewer gameplay systems in place, puzzles are very simple and require little effort to solve. The story relies heavily on symbolism and abstract ideas from the start, which makes it difficult to understand. As the game continues, these ideas are pushed too strongly, causing the narrative to become unclear and excessive. In conclusion, the game lacks depth in its mechanics, suffers from weak level design, and presents a story that struggles to communicate its ideas clearly. It does not work well as a standalone experience.
Let's be honest here, this game would've been better as a custom story or total conversion mod for The Dark Descent. There's so much content cut from this game that would've made it more interesting... the infection system and the health items in particular. The story is great don't get me wrong, but it's basically a walking simulator with like THREE encounters with the monsters. oh yea and the water monster. 6/10
Se que a muchos no les gusto este amnesia, mas porque rompio por completo el concepto del primer amnesia pero la historia, y el personaje principal, es buena ami me gusto mucho el juego ver como Mandus "expia" sus pescados pues fue feliz que mas decir
writing is much worse than TDD and the game has a lot of bugs and crashes
I really wanted to like his game but I sadly can't recommend it. Really poorly optimized, almost every time you load a new area it crashes. However, the part "pigline" is totally bugged and you'll need to start the game through it's files. As for the story, it's not bad at all, felt like an improvement. The whole environment and atmosphere is a big improvement in my eyes. the absence of inventory is also quite disappointing. It's basically a walking simulator with pigs.
A little shorter than the other games. Does not have the same survival aspect as The Dark Descent or Rebirth. A lot more linear than Rebirth. Still really fun to play. 8/10
Довольно жёсткий сюжет выдался в игре, но и вроде неплохой.. Единственная проблема в этой игре, то что постоянно просадки фпс, а также никакой интерактивности с предметами... 7/10
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs – A Poetic Nightmare Score: 8/10 If The Dark Descent was a haunted house that wanted to give you a heart attack, A Machine for Pigs is a disturbing novel that wants to rot your soul. It is one of the most well-written, atmospheric, and audibly terrifying games ever made. The story of Oswald Mandus and his industrial slaughterhouse is a masterpiece of "cosmic horror," tackling themes of guilt, the 20th century, and what it means to be human in an age of machines. The "Art" of Horror The Atmosphere: The setting—a steampunk Victorian London on New Year's Eve 1899—is incredible. The sound of the massive machine thrumming beneath your feet, the steam hissing from pipes, and the distant squeals create a constant sense of dread. The Writing: This game has some of the best prose in gaming history. The monologue at the end is legendary. It doesn't rely on jump scares; it scares you with concepts. It makes you afraid of what the main character has done, rather than just what is hiding in the dark. The Soundtrack: The score by Jessica Curry is hauntingly beautiful. The mix of industrial grinding noises and tragic cello music perfectly captures the sadness and horror of the story. The Flaws: It Forgot to be a "Game" However, you have to accept that this is barely a survival horror game in the traditional sense. Mechanically Hollow: If you loved managing your tinderboxes, oil, and sanity in the first game, you will be disappointed. They removed everything. You have an infinite lantern, no inventory, and no sanity meter. You basically just walk forward and open doors. The "Walking Simulator" Syndrome: The game is extremely linear. There is almost no exploration and very few puzzles. You are essentially walking through a ghost train ride. Not "Scary" Enough: The enemies (the Pigmen) are terrifying in concept, but easy to avoid. The AI is simple, and because the levels are so open, you rarely feel the claustrophobic panic of the first game. Verdict A Machine for Pigs is a narrative masterpiece trapped in a simplified game. If you go in expecting a hardcore survival challenge, you will hate it. But if you treat it like an interactive horror story—a dark, industrial tragedy about a man and his machine—it is an unforgettable experience. Status: A disturbing classic (just don't expect to fight for your life). 🐷⚙️
