Solid sequel. Good gameplay but has poor platforming and level design
Alwa’s Legacy is a fantastic evolution of the original - bigger, prettier, and just as cleverly designed. Building on Alwa’s Awakening, this sequel/reboot upgrades the presentation to a gorgeous 16-bit style, bringing the world to life with richer detail while keeping that classic retro charm intact. The gameplay remains the real star, with thoughtful puzzles, rewarding exploration, and a progression system that encourages creative use of your abilities. It’s a true MetroidVania at heart, and it nails that satisfying loop of discovery and growth. That said, it’s not without a small frustration - certain areas can lock you in with barriers or drops that prevent backtracking until you complete that section. It’s not a dealbreaker, but it can be annoying if you want to step away, regroup, or explore elsewhere before pushing forward. Still, that’s a minor gripe in an otherwise excellent experience. Alwa’s Legacy is a beautifully crafted, smartly designed game that feels like a love letter to classic 16-bit adventures while standing confidently on its own.
Another good 2D-platform game coming out of Sweden. 10/10
Very fun little Metroidvania gem that's not too easy nor too difficult. Nice music and beautiful pixelart make for a really enjoyable time. The magic system with different spells was a very neat idea and gave opportunities to creatively solve puzzles, reach far off ledges (try spawning a block just before you reach they height of your jump) and combat. I had a few minor glitches (frozen sprites, glitching down ladders or climbing on the spot that were fixed by simply jumping or dropping off) and some wonky hitboxes but nothing too drastic.
Great game
Good game. The puzzles made it a bit different to a conventinal Metroidvania.
Solid metroidvania
This was the first game I played through on my Steam Deck. I didn't realize it was a sequel, so I had to buy the first game and then play this one over again. Loved it even more.
