Stress reliever

I wanted to like this game for the nostalgia, but the level design in the later stages (specifically around Mission 8) is absolutely infuriating. The core problem isn't that the game is "hard"—it's that the game relies on Checkpoint Starvation. Here is the experience: You spend 30 minutes clearing a map. It's long, tedious, and repetitive. At the very end, you are forced into a sudden difficulty spike (e.g., trying to blow up spawners while being body-blocked by 3 massive Orange Rhinos/armored aliens). If you make ONE mistake or get stuck on geometry for a second, you die. The Punishment: You have to replay the entire 30-minute boring section again. There are no mid-level saves. There are no checkpoints before the boss waves. This isn't a test of skill; it's a test of patience. The game forces you to replay half an hour of "garbage time" just to get another 10-second attempt at the final objective. Even old-school games like Super Mario Bros. weren't this punishing with time loss. I eventually had to use cheats just to skip the level because I refused to waste another hour of my life replaying content I had already beaten. Verdict: Fun for the first few hours, but be prepared for outdated, unfair design that wastes your time in the late game.

Alien Shooter: Revisited feels like an unnecessary downgrade from the original. It uses the Alien Shooter 2 engine, but the changes to weapon reloading and equipment balance actually make the game worse, with the later levels becoming frustratingly difficult. The graphics are still dated despite the remake, the low resolution is a problem, and there are reports of lag, crashes and other compatibility issues on modern systems. The game also has Steam Trading Cards but no achievements, which is another missed opportunity. If you want to play Alien Shooter, the original is simply the better choice.
