Alan Sharp

Challenging puzzles and a good bit of jump scare. As someone who likes playing scary games to be scared this was fun and challenging. I can't wait for the rest of it!

I can't wait for the next chapter. The scare factors are well done, the puzzles are fun and interesting, the graphics are good, and there are just so many different settings to experience the horror. It's not at all bad, I'd even say it's good, definitely worth a gander on sale. There's about 2 hours of gameplay here (took half hour break which is why my playtime is longer), and if you can get by the jank, it's actually quite entertaining. Decent variety of puzzles, environments change up, there's a good couple of scares. Overall I enjoyed it, albeit it was quite short. I saw the developer claim it would take over 3 hours but that is absolutely an exaggeration - I took my time and interacted with everything I could, and mulled over the puzzles long enough - this is not a long game. Nor does the game put it's best foot forward with a brief intro in a police station where it looks very rough. Awkward animation and conversation, it looks very stilted. But once you get to the house, and get by a further awkward conversation with the murder victim's friend (who is dodgy as all hell, from a clear mile off), you're let loose to explore and get spooked. So in short, don't be put off by the initial impression, stick with it and you'll have a good time. And a PS, and it's a bit of a nitpick, but what puzzles me is why they named the game after someone who is only tangentially linked to the game - you don't play as Alan Sharp in this game. A more appropriate game title would have been Sam Whithers but I guess it doesn't roll off the tongue as well as the name for a detective. But anyway, odd choice, but nothing more.

Game could use some good polishing especially with it's menu and game pad support would make later parts of Sharp much easier. Although nowhere near as solid as similar titles like Silver Chains, Sharp's four hours is worth the elbow-grease but sadly not its asking retail. Sharp is not just another foreign walking simulator remixing assets as there is some sophistication to it's game play and efforts in presentation and voice-acting but Sharp also isn't enjoying the Playstation 2 era it replicates where low calibur productions easily barked up eBay bids beyond the fifty dollar mark. Yet if I were to downvote games simply for being overpriced then ninety percent of my Steam reviews would be a thumbs down. One other thing to point out; Alan Sharp is not in this game at all: it's a prologue leading up to Sharp's involvement - there are three more chapters to come (hinted they will be easily affordable DLCs) so if you feel you've been left hanging too many times with incomplete games you might want to sit out this one and see how far the two developers actually get towards the finale.

¡ Menudo prólogo ¡, me ha encantado. Además, de por el hecho de que ocurre en una casa y adoro los juegos que transcurren en casa (hay otros escenarios que voy a omitir para no fastidiar la experiencia a futuros jugadores). La banda sonora genial, la ambientación, la casa es increíble. Me he llevado unos sustos...en un par casi se me sale el corazón. Felicidades a su creadores, es una maravilla, he disfrutado tanto jugando que ya estoy deseando disfrutar del resto de capítulos. Muy recomendable, porque aunque sea un juego de investigación tiene un buen componente de terror, y te llevarás unos buenos sustos.

I was delighted to get a key for this from one of the devs of Alan Sharp. I just played through the prologue so I don't want to spoil it in any way but I particularly enjoyed the spooky atmosphere and the style of narrative to introduce the player into the back story, all of which is set in a very creepy 70's film noir setting. I must add I found some of the puzzles were quite interesting and challenging.

Its always impressive when a tiny team makes a game, but this game is just not very good. The next game the dev made, Mirror Forge, is way better than this. I only checked this game out to see what else the dev had done and he's definitely improved a lot since this.

Not too long, but fun, with some decent puzzles, some good scares, and some moments of adrenaline.
