PURE EXCELLENCE. What surprising twists and turns in this game! I loved the puzzles and I got jumpscared tonnes of times! 10/10
Alan Sharp

A Promising Horror-Puzzle Game with Potential
Alan Sharp is an impressive horror game with an emphasis on puzzles and a story that slowly unravels as you progress. Developed by a two-person team, this game shows a lot of heart and creativity, blending psychological horror with detective elements to create a unique experience.
Gameplay and Puzzles
At its core, Alan Sharp is a puzzle-driven game, reminiscent of escape room scenarios. The puzzles are the highlight, requiring attention to detail, exploration, and the use of clues scattered throughout the environment. However, some puzzles are overly explained through text, which ironically makes them more confusing. A perfect example is an early puzzle involving an abacus in the basement—it could have benefited from fewer text explanations and more subtle visual clues. Nonetheless, the puzzles remain enjoyable, and for players who love a good brain workout, they’ll find plenty to engage with here.
Scares and Atmosphere
The game leans heavily on jump scares, and while they are effective at first, their overuse can reduce their impact. Some scares are just loud noises with no visual cue, which can feel cheap after a while. The monster also appears too frequently, which lessens its overall terror. The game would benefit from a "less is more" approach, allowing the horror to build more gradually for greater impact.
Story and Immersion
The narrative is intriguing, especially for fans of detective and psychological horror stories. As you solve puzzles and explore, bits of the story are revealed, keeping you engaged as you piece together the bigger picture. The pacing is well done, and while the prologue is short (taking around 1.5 to 2 hours), it provides a good taste of what’s to come in future chapters. The atmosphere is eerie, with plenty of unsettling environments that will keep you on edge.
Technical Aspects
For a game developed by just two people, Alan Sharp runs impressively well. I played the game at 60fps without any crashes. While there were minor bugs, such as rotating objects feeling wonky or characters speaking over written notes, these issues didn’t detract from the overall experience. The visuals may remind players of early 2000s horror games, but the aesthetic works for the tone and style of the game.
Conclusion: A Must-Play for Puzzle and Horror Fans
Alan Sharp offers an engaging blend of horror and puzzles, and while it’s not perfect, it’s a promising game that I’m eager to see more of as new chapters are released. If you’re a fan of psychological horror games and detective stories, this is a title worth checking out. I’ll definitely be recommending this to my friends who enjoy a good horror experience! Abandoned game. Stay away
A very entertaining horror adventure with a lot of potential, a few nice jumpscares on the point, mediocre graphics and good soundeffects. Unfortunately it lacks a bit in improvement (settings in the menu doesn't stay the same if you restart the game) and the german translation of documents and journal-entries is more funny than succeded. But in the whole i was well entertained. The puzzles were good, but sometimes a little tricky. Because of the fact that the following chapters will probably never released, which is really sad, i would only recommend it for a Steam Sale.
It's not at all bad, I'd even say it's good, definitely worth a gander on sale. There's about 2 hours of gameplay here (took half hour break which is why my playtime is longer), and if you can get by the jank, it's actually quite entertaining. Decent variety of puzzles, environments change up, there's a good couple of scares. Overall I enjoyed it, albeit it was quite short. I saw the developer claim it would take over 3 hours but that is absolutely an exaggeration - I took my time and interacted with everything I could, and mulled over the puzzles long enough - this is not a long game. Nor does the game put it's best foot forward with a brief intro in a police station where it looks very rough. Awkward animation and conversation, it looks very stilted. But once you get to the house, and get by a further awkward conversation with the murder victim's friend (who is dodgy as all hell, from a clear mile off), you're let loose to explore and get spooked. So in short, don't be put off by the initial impression, stick with it and you'll have a good time. And a PS, and it's a bit of a nitpick, but what puzzles me is why they named the game after someone who is only tangentially linked to the game - you don't play as Alan Sharp in this game. A more appropriate game title would have been Sam Whithers but I guess it doesn't roll off the tongue as well as the name for a detective. But anyway, odd choice, but nothing more.
I loved this game and it was fun but I can't give this game a positive review since the developers haven't released all the chapters and they should have by now. When they do and if they do then I will edit my review
Super Horror Spiel!
