Light spoilers, I'd like to think I'm vague enough to pinpoint complaints but not ruin the story for any interested. Lovely game when Misuzu is onscreen. Just alright when she's not. The other two routes of Tohno and Kano aren't without merit. Tohno's execution leaves a lot to be desired. Feels very repetitive. Why Are You This Long. Another critique would be how odd it feels that our MC sticks around, as I felt this thought often during my playthrough, but the theme is clinging on to dreams. This gets a pass as a result. I will suspend my disbelief for 'themes and such' more than not. Michiru is a character I felt bad for, but she was not very interesting to me at all. Tohno herself is cute. Kano is..! short! at least! That scene sure does happen. The wrap up for this one is in a neat little bow, but just leaves me shrugging my shoulders in indifference. Hijiri isn't bad.. I like her!! Kano herself is quite uninteresting. I appreciate that she is not reduced to the tomboy! The sporty one! etc as her looks may suggest. However she is nothingburger. Your reward for completing the three routes is Fine. It's Fine. Cared for the characters well enough for the brevity of the segment, had some ohhh moments. Music is great. Soundtrack is great for the whole game. I quite liked the true ending. I teared up a bit, which is nice. Frankly, I could see myself rereading it and I can't say that about the rest. Not without issue, but I easily understand the 5 stars with it. You will get the most out of it from paying attention to all the past routes as you might expect, so please, tough out Tohno's... If you're like me and get bored asf then LOL please know it's worth it!! Review End. A few general things to note: The story is family focused! But there are some romantic elements. It's an older anime VN, and our MC's age is ambiguous for the most part, but he's clearly an adult. Something to keep in mind if that bothers you! There's so much more to this game than throwaway blushy scenes, and they're small, and I'd hate for anyone to skip this game over it, but nudge nudge, they're there! I know we like to gatekeep and filter newgens or however you want to word it, but I think if you merely anticipate it you can easily opt to just ignore them, while still appreciating this game in it's entirety. It's a product of its time, and you take it for what it is. (Apply this thinking to all 2000s and earlier work and set yourself free) Especially the art. So charming. If you say mean things about the art in this game you die and go to hell instantly. The anime may seem like a good starting point, especially when "the novel is better" is basically the case in the discussion of every adaptation of anything ever. So you want to watch something shorter, get interested, and know that something you liked there will get expanded on here. I see your thought process! However! Highly recommend you watch second, and read the VN first. Never a wrong way to engage with art though, so do whatever fits you best! Spoiler for a singular event here: The fact that after moving out you can ditch walking Misuzu to school is so sad LMFAO and if you do! continue to walk her! She basically says "I don't want to waste your time :')" and Yukito is just like damn okkkk ok you kinda got a point no!!!! grabbing my screen no!!!!!!!!!! Yukito is a bit of a bum and it's for the sake of routes and all but it just made me sad lollll,, you don't have to walk her but reassure her more you ♥♥♥♥..... spent like a week at her house and acting like this. Yukito they're gonna get you. non true route Yukito we gotta take you out. we gotta stick toothpicks under your toenails and make you kick walls..... Yukito come outside we just wanna talk...... Wish I read it sooner, but it hit really hard for where I'm at in my life now. What a lovely experience this was.
