Sick game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I would definitely recommend it. Absolutely poggers graphics. Takes me back to being a child and enjoying some classic hack n slash action!
It is definitely worth the small price. The start was a bit frustrating, but now I'm getting used to the "pew pew > dead". It has the feeling "I hope I won't die on the next corner" and it's actually immersive and claustrophobic. Scavenging around for loot is essential. I feel badass and I'm killing a lot of bastards :D....I'll make them pay!! Didn't finish the game yet. I think if you wanna suffer you could go for the achievements. Can be a little clunky at times but it's ok. Support the solo dev <3 **Update** I just finished the game, and overall I had fun (and frustrated at the same time for the repeated deaths), it's actually a challenging game. There are a few bugs, and achievements don't unlock properly at the moment.
Despite how the game may look at a first glance i was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The game was a real challenge and I found myself really grinding to get through some of the levels. But that's what made it so satisfying when I finally beat the level that had been giving me trouble. Even when the odds seem to be stacked against you, with enough perseverance, you can come out on top! Im definitely gonna go for all the achievements!
If you like top down shooters you will enjoy this game. The progression leveling is paced well enough that you don't feel too overpowering against the enemies and can upgrade talents as you progress. As you enter the higher levels the more you need to pay attention to your weapon choice, ammo and decision making when it comes to taking out the enemies because once the enemies see your face they will never forget it and seem to chase you down until either you or them are dead. I was only able to use the starting weapon choice of fists and moved on to pistols, shotgun and uzi later in the game, but you can also use rockets as well based on some random ammo I acquired. If that Rocket is anywhere near the blast radius of the nades tho good luck not blowing yourself up. I ran into a game crashing bug during my gameplay and luckily the dev stopped by my stream and actually fixed it in a matter of minutes. If that's not above and beyond customer service I don't know what is. Besides that hiccup though the game played really well and so I would recommend you play this game.
Old school top-down shooter made by one man team. It's hard - I love it!
At first glance, I was skeptical about the game's art style, but it grew on me, especially when animated. The atmosphere is compelling and the story surprised me with its depth. You'll find collectible notes that enrich the narrative, adding another layer of interest. While the game is challenging for me, it's engaging enough to keep me playing. If you're curious to see it in action, I've posted a gameplay video. Fair warning: I'm still getting the hang of it. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/XwbG_rv5pBE
Against All Odds is a tribute to the classic overhead shooters. It reminds me especially of the 1990's Finnish Shareware Classic Tapan Kaikki with it's overhead perspective and brutal, fast-paced action. While there are flaws, the overall impression is good: action is mostly fluent, weapons feel like they should (especially once you get your character to level up). The atmosphere is really well done, music is great (although it becomes repetitive because of a short soundtrack). Level Design is much better than I expected and there is a feel of progression as new levels come with different challenges: in one level you are avoiding snipers and in another you are on board a narrow train which helps to keep the action interesting. There are boss fights, a okay leveling up system and a story that does not really matter as the main focus is on the action. Flaws include the difficulty that is unfair at times. The enemies are fast and react like a lightning bolt. This leads to frustration as the checkpoints are far between. Crates seems to be randomized which means that if you're unlucky, you are stuck with lousy weapons. Big problem personally was the bleeding mechanic which is nice on paper but leads to frustrating deaths if you're unable to find bandages. One way to make this more bearable would be to decrease the likelyhood of getting bleeding as now it feels like every other shot makes you bleed. There are also bugs: some are funny and others prevent you from going forward or crash the game. Since individual levels are quite short, this is not terrible thing. All in all, I would recommend Against All Odds if you are a fan or nostalgic of top-down shooters. While flawed, there is enough good in it to make the game interesting. I played it through (which is quite rare for me nowadays) and would say it's perfect in length and the atmosphere helps a lot. Price is just about right. Against All Odds also got me waiting for 25 Crimson's next release as there is promise in this one and if the developer is able to keep on improving, it's likely to be interesting and good!
