About

Taking place in the vibrant city of Jakarta, capital of Indonesia, Afterlove EP is a blend of visual novel, narrative adventure and rhythm game elements from the creator of Coffee Talk and What Comes After.
Step into the shoes of Rama, a young musician struggling to move on with life after the death of his girlfriend, Cinta.
Whilst his close friends and bandmates are all determined to help him move on, Rama has been stuck for more than a year. He’s neglecting his music, his mental health and his relationships.
Making things harder, he’s hearing Cinta’s voice inside his head, unsure if she is a spirit or part of his imagination.

Rama’s band has a critical gig in one month’s time. Either he gets serious about his music and delivers the new songs he has been promising or the band will move on without him.
Over twenty-eight days and nights it will be your choices that determine the path Rama takes. Explore the city, choose which relationships to repair and which new ones to pursue. Come to terms with the past, rediscover your creative voice and help Rama shape a future for himself.

Discover modern day Jakarta through side-scrolling exploration, engage in deep and meaningful conversations with the characters of your choosing and jam with your band in rhythm game sections.

Part of the burgeoning Indonesian indie game development scene, Afterlove EP seeks to create an authentic window into modern urban life in Indonesia.

Set in the streets of Jakarta where several of the developers live or have lived, the game also features the distinctive, manga-inspired art of renowned Indonesian artist Soyatu and an original soundtrack from Indonesian indie band L’Alphalpha.

No stranger to stories which tug at the heartstrings, Afterlove EP is the final project from renowned narrative designer, writer and developer, Mohammad Fahmi, who sadly passed away in March 2022 at the age of 32.

Pikselnesia is an Indonesian indie studio founded by Fahmi for the Afterlove EP project. After his passing, the team pledged to complete the game and bring his vision to fruition.
Fully remote, the team is spread across Indonesia and team members have worked on games including A Space for the Unbound, What Comes After and Hello Good Boy.

From the get-go, I can tell this game is not for me. Artstyle is great, music is too. My biggest issues are two things: the juvenile writing and Cinta. I don't know if I'm snobbish or just imagining it, but the writing and dialogue in this game seems very amateurish? People don't talk naturally, NPC dialogue is strange and random, it just became apparent to me as I played the first hour of the game. Also when I played more and more and realized Cinta was voiced the whole game and what the gimmick was my heart sank. Rama knows the voice is in his head, he even speaks to it in his thoughts, so it was frustrating to see him make a fool of himself every other conversation by talking to her out loud. It just took me completely out of each encounter, plus Cinta herself is not a very good person even if it's just a manifestation of Rama's ego. This game is just not really for me and I'm likely never finishing it.
Name a better duo than Jakartan young adults and Blok M.
I cannot in my good conscience recommend this game. Story has its moments (both good and bad) I don't have complaints regarding with the main story of Rama & the band. but the things that you will mainly do is to interact with 3 people which all of them are love interest for Rama. 2 of them i experienced in my playthrough is so bad (e.g. in one story they have a major fight because of something, and next time you meet them, suddenly the forgive and just move on ???). The Gameplay is also so-so... The main things you do is like a persona social link which i have talk about previously, although all of the main people that you can interact with is love interest unlike persona social links... The rhythm game is not good... some of the beatmaps / songmaps just doesn't match with the actual song at all... Honestly I would recommend this game if both love interest stories that I experience is not that bad. The game would definitely benefits if we have more people to interact that just not love interest (e.g. the doctor & the cafe owner) that maybe can help Rama with his life journey but they are so few characters like that. And maybe make Rama can do more stuffs in the city, (e.g. helping peoples, more interactive stuffs, or "actually composing a song") Idk man, maybe my expectation was too high, but i feel like the game has so many potential and it didn't deliver...
The music is really good. I love Suaka. Also I like the unique artstyle. But I don't recommend the game because of the writing /storytelling. Of course there must be conflicts to keep a story moving, yet how Afterlove EP handled conflicts... it's just making me feel quite juvenile. Rama and his band members kept arguing about the same things, and every time Tasya spoke she kept emphasizing how she sacrificed for the band and how irresponsible Rama was to abandon the band. The conflicts could be written more wisely-- repeating over the same things is not the way. For me Cinta was not that much of a bad character, but just as others commented it was dumb to make Rama spoke to her and interrupted the original conversation to create extra conflicts. The theme and the ideas are interesting though, so the problem is just "how" it was written but not "what" was written.
As someone who's currently going through a big depression and a ton of grief, this game really spoke to me. The story was phenomenal. Made me think a lot. Only thing is I wish it was a bit easier to get all the achievements. There's limited save slots and I messed up my playthroughs a couple times and had to restart. I understand why it's that way though for the pacing of the story so it didn't hurt my overall enjoyment. Still recommend.

i usually don´t enjoy playing visual novels but damn if this game 100% worth it
overall it's... ok. I think the story and the music and the characters to all be fantastically written and each individual moment is so well done and the art has a messy beauty that fits the story. My issue is how they all mesh together. I found that during the week the individual stories were the most interesting part because Rama actually feels like he is growing as a person and healing but whenever it returns to band practice all of the progress it thrown out the window and Rama is a self centered jerk again and it makes it hard to stay connected to the story. This is less about the writing and more about the structure of how to make a multiple choice/ branch path game work without 3 billion extra line of text. They took the easy way out by making the story more linear and it hurt the pacing and character building that I was looking forward too. I still think it is worth the purchase because it truly is a beautifully written game and has many touching moments but because of its linearity and its issues the replay-ability is low so maybe just play it once.
Vale a experiência!
