Gosh, I really want to recommend it but in its current state, I just can't do it. I played the original Never Yield on the Switch and enjoyed the experience. And, honestly, when We Never Yield works, it feels like it clicks. Think the Bit.Trip Runner games, but with a bit less focus on rhythm gaming. But that is only when it actually works. There are currently a number of major bugs and performance issues that plague the experience. First off, when I was using my controller (an 8BitDo Xbox/PC controller,) the game didn't actually know how to properly display the directional buttons. With We Never Yield having a focus on controlling multiple characters at once, those direction buttons control one of the characters. I would have not been able to get past the tutorial unless I figured out that the direction buttons mimic the actions of the face buttons, which are used for the other character. Once I jumped past that hurdle, I had to deal with the extremely wonky collision detection. It's not super uncommon to have games like this, where if you hit the button a bit late, but the game registers the button as pressed, you may move around an obstacle, but maybe clip through it. Okay, I'm cool with that. But when I'm pressing the button to slide under a rock and my character is still visibly sliding under said rock, but the game has decided I hit the button too early so it gives me a death, that's extremely frustrating. I eventually gave up when the switch mechanics were introduced, and it felt like I had very little conveyed to me as to when exactly I was supposed to hit them. And if you don't do it, you crash into the gate you failed to open. And even if your character goes through the animation of what, it at least seems like, it's supposed to look like to open the gates but the game hasn't registered it opening, it becomes really really frustrating. There's other, more minor things, throughout, too. Cutscenes where your characters shields are clipping through their necks all the way. If you activate the super power near the end of the level, the game might register you as still having it in the next level and not have you actually lose it. And in those cases, if you use the grapple lines, your character will go horizontal as they zip across. It's an absolute shame, too, because I really enjoy the look and the vibe this game has to it. But the bugs made it feel nearly unplayable for me, to the point that I just had to refund it (something I rarely do and never take pride in doing, either.) I hope that the devs get the chance to iron this stuff out because there's something really cool here. It's just currently buried under a lot of mess.
Really enjoying the game. Played then 1st entry on Switch and decided to give the sequel a try. It has addictive runner gameplay but with futuristic city visuals and really really good soundtrack. In this entry the artistic design, story and multiplayer takes the game to the next level. Overall highly recommend.
I am loving this game! We Never Yield is a really cool sequel. You still get the fun and good music of the first but this game has a story that keeps you going and more to do. I also love how much thought was put into accessibility so that you can just chill and vibe with the music which still progressing the story, or you can have an intense and challenging session. All around a solid game to pick up.
Cool game that needs more attention. Like my game, this was made by a solo developer. There are some issues here and there, like the HUD not really telling you the directional keys (the face keys work fine), some minor VFX and SFX problems here and there, but it is to be expected. I had fun! The music is dope, the characters and cut scenes are great, the game play is cool. I originally thought it might get repetitive after the first level, but he changed it up and it got drastically more difficult and interesting. I played but didn't beat the first game, so I'm a little lost on the story, but that doesn't change the fact that playing this was nice! Good work on your second game!
A fun experience currently dragged down by bugs and optimization issues at launch. Work to be done but with some work this game should shine. Positive review is based on potential and obviously there is no option for a mixed review
very enjoyable! I love the costume design and the challenge of having to focus on two characters. Story is well written and the character design is beautiful.
The co-op switch-up and balancing actions between two characters is fun. Music excellent as always. Dig the safe zones to get a bit more context into the setting. Overall a nice expansion on the core gameplay of the first game.
Aerial_Knight’s We Never Yield je víc než jen běhací hra. Je to stylové prohlášení, vizuální koncert a zároveň výzva, která vás nutí být lepší s každým pokusem. A když vám to konečně všechno dá babu, stačí jen říct: oplatky se nepečou. Tedy připoutá a nepustí. V moderním světě, kde je těžké zpomalit, přichází hra, která říká slova jedné nejmenované české kapely: „Když nemůžeš, přidej víc, zakřič prostě z plných plic, že slovo nejde, neexistuje. We Never Yield really does everything a sequel sets out to do! If you were a fan of the first one, this literally takes everything great from the first Never Yield and adds so much more to it. The art & music were such strong selling points on the first one, and this one pushes it even further. On top of that we're given more story, lore, and extras making the game feel like a more complete experience. Having the collectibles, customization, along with story beats! And something I really appreciate is the different game modes, since it is WE never yield it gives you the option to control either one or both characters. And adding that extra level of difficulty makes getting through some tough spots so much more rewarding. This is something I can't wait to play co-op with someone, just to feel the different experience. I think if you're a fan of vibrant colors, good beats, and an engaging shorter experience definitely check this game out!
Feels like a "Quicktime-Endless Runner". The cinematic is very impressive as it ties into smooth gameplay. Music definitely amplifies the vibe. With such a framework I'm looking forward to more innovative titles from this indie developer.
