It's a interesting take on a tower defense game, and as much as I want to like it their are two 'big' things that kinda prevent that. One, achievements are broke... And have been ever since release, apparently. Two, the really big one here... The devs kinda forgot to add in a 'exit game' button so you have to tab out and close the game from either the taskbar or task manager, whichever you prefer. Minor complaints are garbage keyboard controls, and the mouse being pretty useless even in instances where you'd think mouse controls would be beneficial... Sadly not a issue limited to this game, Aksys games in general seem to treat KBM controls as a afterthought as best. Honestly, it's just another poor quality PC port. Pity since the gameplay is rather interesting. I'd wait until a sale - 75% of minimum - or a bundle to get this game, it's not worth full price given how half-assed this entire port is.
If you buy this, make sure to try it right away. It might not even run at all... Black screen simulater~ If I EVER find a way to make this game run, I might change the review, but for now... 20ish bucks for a Black screen is not worth it.
It's an ENTER smashing simulator with a lot of unneeded text and characters but the actual defense is fun and the anime theme is great! If 80% of the talking was actually worth reading I would enjoy reading them! It's too cliche though. PS. Do yourself a favor and after you get the hang of it change the difficulty to Hard. Sadly no more rewards, (that I notice), but more action, else the city defends it self. Only after you unlock all characters it gets challenging and you can turn back to Normal.
The game seems to have a good premise and I was interested in playing more- but the controls are terrible. This seems to be a decent game with a terrible port to the pc. Update after having played it some more: There is some good in this game, even with the terrible pc controls. (achievements are also broken) If you're going to play this game, use a controller. The game itself has just about no story and the characters in the game never develop. The gameplay is easily the only reason to play the game. The gameplay itself consists of building your defenses in a rotating city and then fending off an onslaught of monsters. You swirl the city around to face your guns at them and wait for them to go down. However there are some problems with the gameplay. It can be slow at times, especially once you get a good array around your city. Especially once you hit chapter 18, at which point the game practically plays itself where all you need to do is select whatever mission you'd like. Another issue is that the game is extremely repetitive. The only difference between early game and late game is that you no longer need to spin the city for your guns to hit the enemy. With there being no story or character development, there's not much reason to play the game once you get bored of the main gameplay loop. With all this plus the price of the game, I still can't recommend it. It's alright for wasting time, but there are much better games you can play.
I really nice mix of Tower Defense and City Management with a cool gimmick during strikes, if you can look past the technical problems like no exit button and achievements seemingly not working then I'd say it would be a good game to pick up on sale.
Good game but bloody awful port and barely even considered a rip or copy/paste of the original. To start off things achievements don't seem to work or function so if you place any substance in achievement hunting then just skip this game. Secondly unless you have a controller or just don't like using a controller then this will be basically a deal breaker as there is no mouse support and using the keyboard for the game is a tiring lesson in frustration so you will be forced to use a controller for any sense of consistency. It is a pity that this game or any game for that matter gets such poor treatment as it feels like some faceless suit has just taken the game and slapped it up on the store in the hopes of getting a quick buck and ignoring how it will hurt prospects for any future games these people work on.
Finished the game, it's pretty okay, the concept is nice even if a bit simplistic. I just wish they had spent 10% of the budget they put into useless cringe English dub to instead fix the port.
