This game seemed as if could have been great. When I saw a demo if it I added it to my Wishlist. I am a fan of Battletech and other older mech type games. This should have been a fun game for me but the controls, camera setup, and interface ruined an interesting concept. The fact the game hard crashed on me the first time I tried to run it should have warned me off. I contacted Innuendo Squad Studios to let them know about the crash and made some minor suggestion. They got back to me rather quickly but let me know that they were happy with the game design. Unless they put more work into the game I cannot recommend getting this. I won this game on a Steam Gift giveaway.
Aegis is a game that I recommend because: - it has an acceptable price - it is a good indie - it is tactical - it is a method to banish boredom - it is atmospheric - the graphics are acceptable - it is relaxing - it has strategy - it has trading cards Enjoy!
Aegis falls short in delivering an engaging and satisfying mech customization experience. Its lacklustre combat, unrefined controls, and overwhelming enemy encounters detract from what should have been a thrilling adventure. While the game's premise initially captivated my attention, it ultimately fails to fulfil its potential, resulting in a rather lacklustre gaming experience. Recommendation: Given the limited depth, lack of reward, and unrefined mechanics, Aegis may not be suitable for players seeking a fulfilling top-down mech game. For those who prioritize robust gameplay and immersive combat within the genre, it is recommended to explore other alternatives.
I'm really surprised there's so many good opinions about this game. It seemed interesting at first, but it quickly turned out that it's very shallow - seems like a tech demo, not a game. There is not much to do, controls are clumsy, there are some (not critical) bugs and all you do is run like from one point to another, shooting two types of enemies. There is no map or radar, so it's very hard to navigate. There are some configuration options, but there is far too small number of equipment items to really customise the robot. I definitely cannot recommend this game at this stage. If it will not get some serious fixes it's not worth your time - even if it was for free! But to be honest, I must say the concept of the game is great. It just lacks, like, 80% of content - base building, improvements to the mech (speed, agility, health points etc), possibility to build NPC units, actual use of collected resources - for building, fuelling the mech and so on.. Also, some more quests apart from the main one. Maybe also salvaging (not only pillaging) of the destroyed enemy units? And editable controls - this is vital. Plus maybe quick-loot option.
To preface this, I won this in a giveaway... Aegis is an interesting game, in that it wants to fill a void in the top down environment where you can customize a mech. But it boils down to a being a single fetch quest with very little depth and unrefined controls. The combat isn't rewarding and is not flexible. It is simply too easy to get overwhelmed with enemies and just get demolished. I ended up playing it as a rush in grab the loot and avoid getting hit rather than trying to fight enemies... not fun.
Cool concept, but flawed execution. Can't proceed in the game, the base is missing the parts required to receive resources. Clunky controls don't help either.
This game has potential, but isn't ready for prime time. Moving resources is clumsy and time consuming, the lack of a zoom feature and/or a map makes navigation frustrating, and the combat is just boring. Hopefully, updates will make this a more fun game to revisit.
the worst. just THE worst. this is the worst mech game i have ever played in my life and probably even the worst game of all times in general. everything about it is plain terrible. the camera mode is terrible, controls are terrible, graphics are terrible, sound is terrible, music is terrible, gameplay is...can you guess it? right! f#cking terrible! mech cruise mode and combat mode are separated for no good reason at all, the camera is all over the place but pretty much never where you want it to be and as soon as something gets in your way your whole mech just swings around. and the combat? the combat!! sooner or later you have to engage in combat (that's what mech games are for, right?) but that's really bad news for you since the idiocy is all over the place again. as soon as you get hit by anything you lose your weapon arms and since you've only got two and you can't replace them in the field it's pretty much game over in an instant. to win the game you have to attack some enemy bases and as soon as you do....oh boy. stationary guns, three mechs and a few tanks all over you. you lose your arms and your head in a matter of seconds and when you die it's right back to the start again. no respawns. usually i finish the games before i review them but not this time. every second fills me with agonizing pain and i can feel my will to live wither away. bloody hell! i can't take it anymore. the idea was good but then someone used the horrible unity engine to cobble together this turd of a game in 5 minutes. i have never seen anything like this and i certainly hope i will never see anything like this again. DON'T buy at any price and if you get it for free don't bother downloading.
Resource scavenging and getting anihalated the second you see more than enemy, with a camera that won't stay centered, this game is reeeeaaly boring.
This is literally the worst game I have ever played on steam. Theoretically you command a mech who collects resources and brings them back to base to construct a better colony. In practice, the design choices are so bad you'd be forgiven for just wanting to burn the colony down yourself. The controls are awkward and it is more common to run out of ammo than health, leading to a really dull end to a battle defined by wonky controls.
