Across the Valley is your friendly VR farm where you really lend a hand. Instead of clicking around in menus, you care for the animals and plants with your own hands. Instead of looking at the farm from up above, you yourself can relax in this hand-drawn paradise.
Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my initial impressions review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/W3C5co7PI0k I really do have mixed feelings about this game. On the one hand, it's such a cute game with a very satisfying, chill gameplay loop. On the other hand, the VR interactions are all basically out-dated. I would only recommend this game for people who are okay with the negatives I'm about to mention. What are the negatives? Well, are you okay with nodal teleportation only? Yes, that's right, no smooth locomotion, no smooth or snap turning. You can't even teleport to where you want. You're just automatically teleported to your assigned spots. Are you okay with mostly point & click interactions? Yes, the VR interactions are mostly point & click or super basic. You do hold items such as the watering can, or the shovel, or the hoe ... but the interactions are simple. For example, you simply grab the shovel and land it on the pre-marked spot then poof, it's done. Or you basically put your hand on the farm animal and move it around and it gets petted (still cute, but not immersive enough). The UI is very rough as well. On the other hand, the gameplay loop for this game is very satisfying. It's chill and relaxing. You're mostly guided along the way as you slowly build up your farm with more crops & livestock & upgraded cosmetics for your farm. I honestly had fun playing this game ... if only the VR interactions were better this could have been a great game. The visual art style and the music fit the game perfectly as well. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting 90 fps. I did not experience any issues or bugs, but there was annoying stuff like the tools getting stuck around objects. Your progress is automatically saved so you don't need to worry about lost progress. Rate 6/10.
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program. A good farming VR game is something we were still missing. I have already played 1 farming game in VR but this one was very limited, fun for a while but then it stopped, so with Across The Valley you tend to return and continue farming because there is also a bit more unlock that also allows you to do more farming activities + also some interactions with the beasts you have on your farm. Watch a snippet of gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4VYK6h1sKU You start with a field on which you can sow grain. After you have sown this virtually, it must naturally grow. That takes a few days, every day you will have to come back to your field to remove weeds or water the grain. After a few days your grain is fully grown and you can harvest it, after which you can buy new seeds to sow them again and then the whole thing starts all over again. In addition to having fields where you can sow crops, you also have a house. Here you will find assignments that you can perform to progress in the game. This is how you unlock the chicken coop at some point and get a chick. This one naturally needs food and water, luckily you have grown grain that you can feed the chick. The chick grows up and starts laying eggs, which you can sell or use to complete the work orders you get. With this you earn money, with which you can buy new seeds, food, other farm animals such as sheep, cows and pigs and upgrades to make your own house look more beautiful.
👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
English: -----------------------------> Across The Valley by FusionPlay is a simple farming simulator. I'm not a big fan of farming sims, but Across The Valley was made available to me. And so, without further ado, I took a look around in it. As I said, even in Flat, famrsims don't interest me at all and only the fact that it's for VR made me accept the offer. Let's see if it will be a disappointment ... Across The Valley is once again a comic-cartoon.quest-compatible graphics. You can think what you want about that, I don't so much. However, the gameplay is also only on quest level. The game has some small bugs, like teleportation into objects, or bad interaction with the tools. There is no way for left-handed people to grab the tools, moreover, the hands seem to be twisted as soon as the style of a tool is grabbed. Unfortunately, Across The Valley is neither fun nor a good game right now. It presents us as farmers with mundane tasks to do on a farm, so far so normal. If we are out on our farm for too long, we get tired, which leads to an abrupt black screen, followed by waking up next to the bed. The game also gets boring pretty quickly in VR, like any other farming sim game. Every simple task requires a lot of effort and walking back and forth, or teleporting, because free movement unfortunately doesn't exist, the teleportation also never works well, so we have to keep turning in the right direction. Patches can fix these problems, but not the core of the gameplay, it's not fun enough for me. The appeal of VR farming wears off quickly, and the game isn't interesting enough to play for any length of time. There are achievements though. 👀For bored farmers🎊 on my curation page. 👑 Powered by HoI 4 Deu Curators group in German / English 👑

Follow Main group
Follow Second group
Glitchy. The game looks okay but things, especially the tools, glitch everywhere. The watering and seed planting is difficult to actually get 100, and I'm not understanding why my plants die after watering them. The game play is nice but repetitive. This game is to relax, so i don't expect challenge but there are only a few repetitive things you do daily, along with a mini game every few in game days. This makes the game boring quickly. There are orders and goals to work towards, so there are small goals to work towards, if you like a grind this is it. I wish there were more customization options too. I would like to be able to name my animals, and maybe more options for decorating the house in at least different colors. I seriously dislike the auto save feature, and that you have to sleep in order to save game play. Vr is something that you need to be able to put down and take breaks when you need to and i found i cant do that with this game. I paused the game for a little bit, but the game un-paused itself and kept running through days. Now my farm is completely ruined and i cant go back to a previous save or reload the game to when i last saved and has completely ruined it. All the repetitive grinding i did to get my farm up to this point is now useless.
Very cool game and nice clean atmosphere. If you are interested in farming and enjoy a relaxed environment, this is it. It's simplified, but the major parts appear to be there. The music and sound effects are great. I never knew petting a small chick was so fun :) This game is not offered on Oculus pcvr store page, however, after you play it once, you won't need to startup SteamVR anymore as it will be available to play directly from Oculus home page on pc. I didn't notice any major bugs yet, but when I first arrived at the farm for the first time (after leaving the settings area), everything was unlocked for me to go check out. While I was reading a book in the barn, the night slowly fell and then suddenly the screen went completely black. I thought the game crashed. Then about 10 seconds later I woke up next to the bed in the farmhouse. At first I thought this was a bug. But the in-game tutorial started at this point. So at least be aware of this before you play. Other issue, after playing a bit longer my character starts to move away from the proper position to access things. Even after teleporting to a new position and back, it does not recenter itself. There needs to be a way in game to recenter your view and reset over the center of the play area. Something like push down on top of both joysticks on controller, this seems to be the common way most games handle this function. A few requested features: 1) Smooth movement. I appreciate the teleport to location for focused actions, but I would like to move around a bit and see the farm from different angles. 2) An exit/quit button: or at least a safe location to log out. Maybe thru the menu key on the controller. I didn't come across any options for this. At least not in the middle of the tutorial. I had to hard shutdown from the steam menu which doesn't feel right. All games should always have a quit menu so that it is clear that the game is saving your position or at least give you a warning about how to save before quitting. 3) Explain how the game saves on exit. The tutorial books in the game are of real nice quality, this would be the perfect place to explain about game exit and saving. Through trial and error it appears the game saves your exact position when you select quit from Steam menu. 4) Book tabs: would be nice to have for quick tabs on the side of the books, so that you can reference particular sections. I found the barn book to be particularly cumbersome to flip thru all the pages just to find out how to milk the cows. But maybe after learning everything, you wont need the book anymore. 5) Quest version: of course you will get this request. I don't see how this would not be possible, it doesn't appear too graphic or cpu intensive. 6) Link to a road map for upcoming features? 7) Option to recenter view and position: as discussed in the review above. Of course allowing player walking movement would fix this issue as well.
I really wanted to recommend this game as the developer did respond to my concerns but seemed to believe that their game didn't need any tweaking. There is just too much frustration with simple tasks to make this a relaxing and fun farming experience. In the end, it was the watering that killed the fun for me. When you get above 90% watering score and still lose plants is just frustrating. Especially when in some cases you end up with only 1 plant succeeding to grow out of the whole crop. It is just plain unfair and game breaking. The weeding is also very hard to do accurately as the hoe tends to either stick to the ground in the wrong place or drops from your grip randomly. Picking the hoe back up properly is also difficult at times. Even the act of seeding can be frustrating as it looks like you covered all the bare ground yet some of them just decide not to sprout. You kind of need to look at the pattern of the plants to get exactly where to sow and water correctly. The best advice I can give you is to water fairly fast and cover around the plants. Even then good luck trying to get over half your crop to fruit out. Milking the cow is a little bit tricky to master and I never once was successful to get all five buckets as the beginning of the milking can catch you off guard. It just starts out without much time to prepare and you need to time all of the dropping milk cans perfectly. Miss one and you will no longer get all five buckets. Shearing the sheep isn't too bad but the placement of the sign next to your sheep can block the clippers at times. I have issues getting truffles when I misplace a radish near the dig spot and then one on top of the dig spot. For some reason the pig will eat the first one, then move a little bit away from the dig spot and then eat the one that I placed on the dig spot without actually digging up the truffle. It can also be hard to toss a radish the distance required to get it to some dig spots as for some reason you can't actually move nearer to any of them. After about 5 hours, you have seen and done all there is to do and it just becomes an endless cycle of frustration of trying get plants to grow and trying to maintain the animals. It is fun for the first few hours but after awhile there isn't much more to do. Yeah, you can decorate your house but you never really spend much time in it anyway.
Walkthrough - https://youtu.be/fLTnmkKTmGs Great Game, go for it. So freaking Cute, Everything about this game is so cute Who could have thought picking up sheep dung and feeding chicken will give you joy in 2023 Rating - 9/10
While the game is pretty simple - all of the farming mechanics you need are there. I was waiting for some time for a proper farm sim in VR and it's finally here. It covers most of the stuff you'd expect from a farming game. Growing crops, having animals, expanding your farm, selling your produce. The only thing wich i consider weird and a con is teleport points movement only. It's kinda weird to see a VR game in 2023 that doesn't allow you to move around freely.
After passing on many other VR farming games because I felt that they didn't look immersive enough, this is the one that I finally decided to purchase and I don't regret it. After 30 in-game days, I have more than one of each animal type and have unlocked 8 of the available crops. It is a nice, chill game. The best part is that you actually have to perform all of the chores, instead of just pointing and clicking like in some games. There is also some skill involved, as how well you sow, water, and weed your crops affects the size of your harvest. The larger animals have some skill based minigames as well. Shearing sheep is quite fun, but it took some practice before I got good at milking cows, and I need a lot more practice at truffle hunting with pigs. I wish you could actually walk around your farm instead of having a node based system, but that's only a minor complaint, and after watching the developers' gameplay commentary videos I can kind of understand why they went this way. All in all, though, great game.
