Nein.
Very cool
Manage heat while battling waves of enemies, using skills wisely, and investing coins and gems into perks and permanent upgrades to improve survival and progression. At the beginning, you are limited to choosing the single aircraft. All other planes remain locked until you either clear particular stages or achieve specific milestones. While each plane features its own set of statistics, the most important aspects to pay attention to are the turning speed and the damage output of the weapons, since those two factors have the biggest impact on how efficiently you can survive. Although the game does support the use of a gamepad, the most comfortable and effective control method is the mouse. With a mouse, you do not have to juggle between many different inputs. Instead, all of the essential actions are bound to just two buttons, which makes the gameplay much more straightforward. The left mouse button is used for shooting, while the right button functions as your throttle, allowing you to accelerate. Movement itself is tied to the position of your cursor. Your aircraft naturally veers in the direction of your mouse pointer, and once you apply thrust, the plane starts flying toward that spot. Aircraft have weight and momentum, so if you stop accelerating, the plane will gradually begin to drop. Below you is a body of water. Crashing into it won’t necessarily destroy your plane immediately, but it does chip away at your health each time you make contact. Interestingly, the same applies to enemies, so water hazards can work both ways. Combat is fairly simple to grasp because the mechanics are essentially point-and-shoot. However, one limitation is that your aircraft needs to physically turn in order to fire in a specific direction. That means if an enemy is directly behind you while you are flying forward, you won’t be able to hit them unless you maneuver. Ammo is unlimited, but weapons are not without drawbacks because firing continuously builds up heat. If the heat meter fills completely, your plane overheats, causing you to take damage while also disabling your weapons until the system cools down. To manage this, you can pause shooting or collect blue crystals, which reduce heat buildup. Red crystals, on the other hand, restore your health, but both kinds of crystals spawn rather infrequently. Overheating becomes even more of a concern when you start using skills. Skills are assigned to four slots, and you must activate them manually. You begin with a single skill already equipped, and after completing each round, you get to fill the remaining slots by choosing from new options. There are no experience points. Instead, once a round ends, you are given the opportunity to choose a new skill from three random options. Of course, you can also upgrade the existing skill. Rounds are time-based. A timer appears at the top of the screen, and when it reaches zero, the round concludes. At that point, you can either finish off the remaining enemies or simply proceed. The coin reward for surviving is fixed, meaning you don’t get additional money for eliminating every enemy. The only incentive to keep attacking is the chaining system. If you manage to destroy enemies quickly in succession, you create a chain. At the end of a round, the longest chain grants you a handful of bonus coins. The timer itself is short, starting at only 20 seconds. With each new round you clear, the timer is extended slightly. While the clock is running, enemies spawn rapidly, filling the battlefield. Although you could attempt to fight through them all, sometimes the smarter strategy is to simply keep flying until the timer runs out. Unfortunately, this tactic becomes more difficult as tougher enemies appear. What begins with harmless drones quickly escalates into aggressive fighter planes equipped with guns and even homing missiles that are hard to outrun. Another important feature is the shop, which appears at the end of each round. Using coins you’ve gathered, you can purchase perks. The shop displays three randomly generated perks at a time. You may choose to lock a perk so that it reappears later when you can afford it, or you can pay a small fee to reroll and refresh the available choices. Perks range from passive bonuses, such as higher dodge chances, faster skill cooldowns, or increased weapon damage, to more powerful upgrades. A particularly valuable perk allows your plane to fire both forward and backward, which is a lifesaver when fleeing from enemies behind you, or you might get homing bullets. With luck, you can create a powerful build that lets you beat a run easily. The overall structure is stage-based. In the stage select menu, you can see how many rounds you must survive before finishing the stage, which always concludes with a boss battle. There are six stages in total, not including the tutorial. To unlock new stages, you must first complete the one before it. Unfortunately, the environments are quite repetitive. Each stage consists only of sky and water or desert, and the only real variation lies in the background visuals. Additionally, the maps are limited in size, preventing you from flying endlessly in one direction. Regardless of whether you win or lose, you are awarded gems at the end of each run. The number of gems depends on how many rounds you managed to survive. These gems are used for purchasing permanent upgrades, such as stronger damage, improved turning speed, faster healing, increased coin income, and more. Each upgrade can be leveled a handful of times, typically between four and six, but every new level costs significantly more. The positive aspect of this system is that upgrades apply to all planes, meaning progress carries over no matter which aircraft you choose. The downside, however, is that the upgrades are not particularly impactful, and the costs are steep. Since failed runs reward only a small number of gems, you are forced to grind repeatedly before any noticeable improvement takes effect.
Steering on m+k is fixed to mouse only which is a 'no-go' for me. All of these '2D air combat' games want to be Luftrausers SO BAD but can never seem to hit the mark...
