About
You are not the hero. You are in charge.
In Acceptable Losses, you are the officer behind the line. You make the calls. You assign the missions. You sign the forms while your men bleed for inches of mud.
Each day brings new orders. Send squads on patrols, trench repairs, wiring parties, or assaults.
At night, face the paperwork. Read incident reports. Review medical updates. Scan intelligence briefings. Hope reinforcements arrive on time.
Balance your duty to HQ with the lives of the men under your command. Survive twenty days. That is all they ask. Perform well and gain influence to tilt conditions to your favor. Perform poorly and they take them back.
Deliver acceptable results and you may be ordered Over the Top. Survive the assault and you will be tasked with holding the captured trenches until replacements arrive. Fail, and you will be held responsible.
Over 60 missions ranging from routine trench duty to full assaults
Every Mission has at least 6 Outcomes
Over 120 mid mission events that shift outcomes in real time
Over 30 night events affecting squads, supplies, and trench conditions
Over 15 modifiers including morale, fatigue, weather, and enemy readiness
Randomly generated soldiers with unique names and birthplaces
Permanent death within your squads
Join missions personally for a leadership boost, but risk injury
HQ evaluations that determine your standing and whether you earn the chance to go Over the Top

Currently, the game really lacks content or customization settings which makes its replayability value low. However, it feels like a passion project and I sincerely believe that the developer will keep working on it. Consider this review as a sign of appreciation.
It was a very fun game with good mechanics and a complex but easy to understand soldier management system. The feeling of dread from having your soldiers wounded or dead from the different factors of war really adds to the atmosphere. My only complaint is that I wish they made it longer so I can enjoy it even longer, but well worth the price.

Fun and atmospheric despite its apparent simplicity of mechanics. Very flavorful play loop. Ton of play and replay bang for your very modest buck with the introductory price.
Fantastic game, unbelievable atmosphere and deeply rewarding gameplay loop. Received it for free to playtest but would have happily bought it either way!
For $6. It's is a dang good little ww1 management game. Would love for them to eventually add faces to the units to replace the current drawings. Its a lot of rng but that's part of the fun. First run I almost made it to the end but my men had nothing left, and I couldn't force them to go on. I love the fact that each solider has an age and a state. Let's you connect more. Seeing the names of the fallen of the table was also a good touch Side note: works well on steam deck
Worth the price, fun concept and fun gameplay. I do have some criticisms, mainly, the RNG. The RNG can make your break your run - but this is to be expected, specially with the huge disclaimer the game shows you when you open it - "unexpected things may happen and thats part of war". Thing is, the RNG is significantly more important than your decisions, at least in my experience. I did 2 runs normally, and then later I wanted to test something: I savescummed so I could have a perfect first day, backed up my save, and then did the same with the worst possible first day. I genuinely cant explain how much that single day changed so many things. 1/4th of a squad KIA and 1/2 of it wounded in the first 3 days, then HQ called one of my squads. The other two were green, and due to my failures enemy activity was high - missions were absurdly difficult. On top of that, there was heavy rain and fog. By the end of the week I started a new save. Each mistake in the game sets you up for a cascading failure - a very bad first day (or few first days) can doom a campaign. Meanwhile, a solid start where you build veterancy without any or only a few losses can guarantee you a win. A single failure (or overwhelming failure) can result in KIA, wounded, loss of morale, and most importantly: increased enemy activity. That increased enemy activity results in harsher missions - with more failures. You get the gist of it. So, I think it's worth it, and the concept is fun. But temper your expectations and realize you'll have to do with whatever few resources you have. Sometimes your long term planning gets wrecked when you pull some bad mission cards. Though I do think this experience reinforces the games's message: unexpected things happen in war, deal with it. And I did have a lot of experience in trying to get my soldiers trough one hell of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ campaign with a bad start.
Quite a satisfying experience. We should probably count the 45 minutes I spent with the demo towards my playtime. I'm not sure I'll play it again, but the price is right and the experience is challenging and unique.
Very nice fun little game. Intuitive enough I didn't really have to play the tutorial. Good job, dev!
An enjoyable if somewhat shallow experience. Not a long game by any stretch of the imagination and the general broad strokes of each run will be the same but a fun enough resource management game and quite reasonable for the price, I suspect I will come back to this on occasion.
