ACCELERATE ZONE

I picked it up because it was $3 and the art style is super cute, and after playing through all the stages I realized that I actually was making it much harder on myself for not reading the how to play immediately lol. At first I thought the game was very simple but after playing it essentially the hard way and then trying it knowing how everything works, there is a lot of fun stuff to be found in it! I like the multi-purpose robots you can have as shielding or to break walls, I like the fact that you can ignore enemies chasing you and force them to collide with structures or you can brake and force them in front of you to gun down for extra energy. The only thing I wasn't huge on were the other weapon options, I found the default blaster to be easily more favorable for its very rapid speed, but that's not a bad thing. I like the fact that there are many moment to moment decisions to be made and that the game has enough options that you can really play it your own way on how you deal with obstacles! Overall I'd say its a very fun arcade-like experience and I would love to see more done with this concept! Also the artstyle is incredibly charming and I would love to hear more music made!

This game is really cute! I really like when 2D indie games opt for an art style that doesn't use pixel art. That said, the gameplay can be really rough at times. It's a horizontal shoot-em-up with an emphasis on speed, which sounds simple enough, but your hitbox is massive, and you don't always feel like you have enough reaction time to play properly. This makes going fast feel like it's actively being punished, rather than encouraged. I still really enjoyed this game, and it's really cheap and really short (I managed to beat all of it in an hour), so if you want to play something cute for a bit, then you should give it a try.
