A Quick Look at the Story
A steampunk-style adventure and puzzle game set in a fictional, post-disaster city. You play as Zhou Ruoshui, a mechanic and Taoist wanderer who returns to his ruined hometown in search of his missing parents. As he explores the desolate streets, he becomes entangled in a strange and mysterious journey. Along the way, he meets a variety of characters—some familiar, some unknown—and uncovers buried truths through puzzles, shifting timelines, and dual perspectives.
In-Depth Review
The game charms right away with its nostalgic pixel art. Exploration is simple and intuitive, with a clear and not other possible path, along the way you can interact with different notes and objets. Although this makes the searching for items easier, it does feel a bit repetitive the moment you realise pretty much all objects will be found in a container. Puzzles are scattered throughout the game and are generally enjoyable, offering a decent level of challenge. Although, in my opinion, the level of difficulty for the puzzles seemed to vary quite a bit, sometimes going from a very easy puzzle to a pretty hard one. Something good regardless is that it’s possible to find clues around the room, along with occasional comments from the protagonist. There are three different endings, which makes the game more enjoyable as you try to get all possible endings. The main route is easy to achieve, but the other two possible, are a bit harder to get and might require a bit of guidance to be able to unlock them which feels like a small bonus for curious players. However, the experience isn’t without hiccups, it would be interesting to add a few more saving points as instant deaths are quite common, either from enemies or from interacting with certain objects. The fact that saving points are so scattered means that you can lose a lot of progress very easily which can feel a bit frustrating. However, the experience isn’t without hiccups. One major issue is with the localization—most of the game is translated well enough to follow the story, but there are occasional mistakes that break immersion. Text sometimes switches from English to Chinese, even mid-conversation, and awkward sentence structures or odd punctuation show up now and then. Apart from that, the game would sometimes start bugging, needing to restart it to make it work again, no apparent reason for that. The classic top-down camera and nostalgic pixel art set the stage nicely, but make no mistake, this is far more of an adventure-puzzle game than a grind-heavy RPG. Exploration is simple but effective. Your character can walk, run, and interact with the environment, but there are no flashy indicators for hotspots. You’ll need to get up close to objects and wait for a question mark prompt to appear. These interactions often deliver bits of lore and world building, but they're rarely essential, and can be skipped without consequence. The game’s translation is serviceable, and for the most part, it communicates the story well. However, it’s not without its quirks. Occasional grammar issues, such as awkward sentence structures, misplaced commas and capitals, and even bits of untranslated text, can pull you out of the experience. One particularly annoying issue is with apostrophes, which sometimes cause spacing errors. Fortunately, these are small blemishes that appear infrequently enough to avoid ruining the game’s atmosphere. The game progresses in a mostly linear fashion, with areas segmented into small, self-contained rooms. Once a room has been cleared of useful items or interactions, there's usually no going back. While exits are occasionally marked, doors often need to be interacted with because you never know. Item management is refreshingly streamlined. Key items are placed in obvious containers and added automatically to your inventory. There’s no need to manually select or equip them—if you’ve got the right item, it’ll be used when needed. Where the game steps up is in its puzzles. Scattered notes and stone tablets provide clues, and though the challenges aren’t especially hard, they demand enough thought to be satisfying. Hints from the protagonist help keep things moving, and if you do get stuck, a built-in walkthrough (tucked away in the install folder) has your back. Adding to the tension are sudden-death traps lurking in certain rooms. These hazards and enemies can kill you instantly, kicking you back to the main menu and wiping all unsaved progress. That makes regular use of the water cooler save points absolutely essential. Miss one, and you might find yourself losing a hefty chunk of progress to an unexpected surprise. Besides the annoyance of waiting a few moments for the death screen and reloading the last save, the game also strangely drops several frame rates and runs slower with each death. The only way to fix this is to close the game and restart it. The game takes a couple of hours to beat, but the fan part is that you can choose between three paths. The choice is made right in the first area, but except for the main path, the two other paths take extra steps that aren’t clear unless you take a look at the walkthrough.

Make Chinese and English speaker feel at home: Bilingual Curator
